Long Island, New York -- Digital Media Workshop, Inc. today announced a release date for their upcoming first-person, point-and-click adventure game, Prominence. The game will launch on November 6, 2015.

Prominence will be available via Steam ( http://store.steampowered.com/app/270230 ) and directly from the official website ( http://www.prominencegame.com ).

Pre-orders can be made through the official site, and offer an added bonus: Players can choose to join the Letarri colonization mission, which will give them the option to select a title and have their name appear in-game as a founding settler of New Letarr.

The final round of beta testing is currently in progress. Developer Mike Morrison reports, “Reactions by players in the closed beta have been very positive, particularly with respect to production values, story, puzzles, and emotional impact. We are also implementing some enhancements based on player feedback so that we can offer gamers the best possible experience when Prominence is released.”

Pre-orders are available here: http://www.prominencegame.com

Add Prominence to your Steam Wishlist here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/270230

Prominence will launch on Win XP/Vista/7/8/10 in English and German, with additional localizations planned for French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, and Russian.

The DRM-free version does not require Steam to play. And pre-ordering the game, you get both a Steam key AND the DRM-free version.

Re: Prominence Release Date Announced - 11/02/15 02:35 AM

It reminds me slightly of the games Majestic and Zero Critical by Istvan Pely. Does anybody remember these games?
Posted By: GreyFuss

Re: Prominence Release Date Announced - 11/02/15 05:33 AM

You bet I do but not so much Zero Critical as that was 3rd person but Majestic Part 1: Alien Encounter and Symbiocom from Istvan Pely and Mission Critical from Legend all first person SciFi games that are very memorable for me. I wish they all would eventually make there way to GOG to play on our newer systems. In fact I think I will head over there and give them a vote. Thanks for the reminder and trip down memory lane Mikael. Only a few days away for Prominence. laugh

Re: Prominence Release Date Announced - 11/03/15 11:32 PM

I was never able to get Mission Critical to work on any of my systems, so that would be an extremely nice addition to GOG. I love so many of the FMV games from those days.

Re: Prominence Release Date Announced - 11/03/15 11:35 PM

I'd like to see GOG get any and all of the Legend Entertainment games; they were all well worth playing.

I am pretty sure I ran Mission Critical on Win98SE with no problems. 3 Day until Prominence bravo

I have played Mission Critical on my current Win 7 64 bit computer using DOSBox with D-Fend Reloaded. I also merged all of the files from all 3 CDs into one DVD .iso image file, which eliminated the need for disk swapping.

Re: Prominence Release Date Announced - 11/06/15 11:14 PM

I pre-ordered earlier in the week, but all the download link says is "Redeem on Steam". How do I download the DRM-free version?
Posted By: GreyFuss

Re: Prominence Release Date Announced - 11/06/15 11:42 PM

Even though the Steam key is available it hasn't yet released on Steam. I had messaged Kevin earlier when I saw the same thing but I think they are very busy with the release. In my excitement to hurry up and start to play Prominence I forgot my patience. I am sure we will see the game available shortly.

Re: Prominence Release Date Announced - 11/07/15 12:21 AM

Here is the reason:

Quote:
Happy launch day! The release is coming shortly and we can't wait to share Prominence with you all. smile emoticon
We just got word a little while ago that our German localization team was unable to finish translation and testing in time for today's release. They report that it should be completed early next week.
We apologize for the delay. We want the translation to be spot on, so that German players can have the best possible experience!
As a result, we're reworking the launch settings in Steam and in our builds so that we can release the English version today for everyone, and then players who want the German version will automatically get an update next week that will switch the game over to their native tongue. (And should work with their existing saved games, too!)
The English version will release today as planned -- as soon as we've reconfigured our launch scheme and revised the Steam packages. We thank you for your patience!
Thank you and pel koloro!

Re: Prominence Release Date Announced - 11/07/15 05:33 AM

I still only got the "Redeem on Steam". I accidentally clicked on the "Redeem on Steam" and it brought up the Steam key with instructions to copy it into the Steam client. Still no other download link. Now every time I go back to the Humble Bundle page, it shows the Steam key instead of "Redeem on Steam". I tried refreshing the page, clearing the history, clearing the cache, and I even tried opening the page in IE instead of Firefox, and restarting the computer. Nothing changed. Still no download link.

If you have a key, you can take it and go on steam and put the code in the "Add a game" section and you will get it.

I don't do Steam. I bought it for the DRM-free version that was advertised both in this thread and the Prominence website. Just checked again, still no download link.

Re: Prominence Release Date Announced - 11/07/15 08:02 PM

Are you sure the code isn't for a drm version on steam?

Re: Prominence Release Date Announced - 11/07/15 08:23 PM

The description says
Quote:
Includes Steam key and DRM-free download for Windows!

That suggests they're not the same thing.
The purchase at prominencegame.com also seems to be done through HumbleBundle, which usually gives a choice.

Uncle Reg,
I guess you could try emailing them through their webpage at
http://www.prominencegame.com/contact.html

Also if you have an account at Humble Bundle, try logging in and see if the game is there. You might have to add the purchase ID number somewhere (I had to do that for some game, but don't remember the details).

This was posted in this thread by somebody who, by his signature, appears to be connected to the game developers.

Uncle Reg - can you see the game available for download in your Humble Library (not under purchases)? Maybe that is where you need to look for the DRM free.

Yes, The email I got came from Humble Bundle, and the link with the Steam key is a Humble Bundle page.

I have bought several other games directly from the developers site that were delivered through Humble Bundle, and I didn't remember ever having to log in to get them. I couldn't find any record of ever having an account, so I tried logging in and clicking on "Forgot your password?", and I got this reply from Humble Bundle:

"You are receiving this email because you attempted to reset your Humble Bundle password. Our records indicate that you have purchased items from us in the past but have not yet created a Humble Bundle account with this email address.

Accounts are an optional feature, but we recommend creating one to easily keep track of your purchases. If you would like to create an account, click the following link"

I went back and checked two of those older games, Homesick and Tormentum, and both of the emails still take me to a Humble Bundle page with both a Steam key and a download link, without having to log in.

And neither did I -- until I had to create the account because I didn't get a link to download a certain game by email.

Re: Prominence Release Date Announced - 11/08/15 01:30 AM

I pre-ordered the game because I wanted the drm free version for Windows. My Humble Bundle page reads the same-just a Steam Key. I sent in a support ticket to the folks at Humble Bundle to inquire about the missing DRM free game. I'll post back here when I hear from them.
I did what I never thought I would do-I installed Steam and downloaded the game because I was really looking forward to this game. I have to say it was worth the trouble of installing Steam. It's a true adventure game-a breath of fresh air in our stagnant genre.

If I had to complain about anything, it would be:
-transition graphics are terrible
-the mouse use/navigation takes a little getting used to but once played for a little while, it becomes less aggravating.
-no resolution options. I have no idea what the game is playing at even though I have my monitor set to 1080P. And this hearkens back to my first gripe above.

But if you are on the fence, buy it. I am over 2 hours in and am enjoying it very much.

Re: Prominence Release Date Announced - 11/08/15 02:18 AM

Hi!

I was a beta tester and was curious how others felt about the game, so I happened upon this thread.

My understanding is that the DRM file will be separately downloadable through Humble Bundle. The developers have run into a snag, which is causing the delay. From Facebook:

If you pre-ordered and are waiting for the DRM-free download version of Prominence, we're working on it! Our unified Windows install builder is having trouble with the game that we didn't have in earlier iterations. As soon as this is fixed, we'll get the build out and it will appear on your Humble pages. We apologize for the delay!

That's awesome you're enjoying it so!
I'm secretly hoping they get enough sales to to bring the transition quality up a notch. It's probably more of an encoder licensing thing than anything (but don't quote me on that).

On Steam, someone posted a good suggestion to make the mouse more like an FPS. I believe it was to turn down the "Momentum" setting about two notches.

It should be running in your native resolution. Also vsync is useful.

That's exactly the same response that I got by email after posting a query on the Prominence website's Contact page.

All is well. Now that I know what's what, I'm happy to wait.

I missed this earlier, but Kevin McGrath is not only connected to the developers, AFAIK he's the sole programmer. The engine is proprietary, which he developed.

Prominence is pretty much his and Mike Morrison's project, with some help (possibly sub-contracted) in the music, art and voice acting departments.

Here's a 2013 interview with both: http://www.adventuregamers.com/articles/view/25016

I am nearly at the end of this super game!! Old school 1st person, but very enjoyable. Not sure how long it is but there are 7 chapters (which I have just started) and have been playing for 6 hours total. Recommended for someone who likes to take their time with investigating and solving puzzles. wave

Re: Prominence Release Date Announced - 12/03/15 04:22 AM

I agree. thumbsup thumbsup Prominence is one of the best games I've played in a long, long time. You must be playing the Steam version, because the DRM-free version that I'm using doesn't divide it into chapters.

In case you didn't know, there are two different endings you can get.
Click to reveal..
You can decide to build a new shuttle, or you can decide to save the ship.
Make sure you save your game just before you make the choice, so you can go back and play the other ending.

It boggles my mind that, except for this thread, GameBoomers is completely devoid of any discussions about this great game. Everybody that hasn't played this game is missing out on a real winner.

Re: Prominence Release Date Announced - 12/03/15 07:56 AM

Thank you both for the kind words. It's truly heartening to see that people are enjoying our game. Thanks to BrownEyedTigre for the swift spoiler tags, too.

Tomorrow, I get to head back into the studio with Tom to put the finishing touches on the mixes for the official Prominence soundtrack. We've got 12 tracks done and 4 in progress that we hope to wrap-up. This will be the first in our series of free extras for everyone who’s purchased the game! smile

We’re also hoping to record a new Developer Chat about the sound design, voice-acting sessions, and music for the game. Should be fun, although sometimes we get a bit silly around the holidays like we did during our Steam Greenlight campaign. laugh

Re: Prominence Release Date Announced - 12/03/15 10:23 AM

Thanks, Uncle Reg, for the 2 endings info, building the shuttle really was brain scrambling! will go back and try the other ending.
Hope there will be more games from Mike and the team, good luck for the future! thumbsup

Re: Prominence Release Date Announced - 12/04/15 05:43 AM

I REALLY wish you could play Mission Critical! I was one who told the PROMINENCE team about that game and how the part of their game reminds me of it. I kept my ME PC, now with no online or Nortons just to play my really old games. AMBER, Mission Critical, The Dig, Midnight Nowhere and Dark Side Of The Moon (games GoG doesn't offer) all play flawlessly on it.

Re: Prominence Release Date Announced - 12/04/15 08:42 PM

BubbaJake .... The Dig is available from GOG - and at a very low cost, too smile

Re: Prominence Release Date Announced - 12/05/15 12:41 AM

That's awesome that The Dig is available on GoG! I KNOW they will have EVERYTHING soon. I have no problem buying my games there and I didn't know about The Dig. GREAT!
PLUS, they've made improvements like GoG Galaxy that makes downloading even easier. (I bought Tesla Effect (early) and Still Life (which plays on my Win 7 on Steam only to not be able to access my Steam Account.) I had to buy Tesla again from GoG. I will stick with GoG.
