Penny, In Firefox you can press CTRL+SHIFT+DELETE to clear your history, select 'Everything' from the timerange drop down and make sure 'Cache' is selected in the 'Details' list then click 'Clear Now'

I'm not sure if I've ever played a Carol Reed game, can these be played in any order , or do you lose something if you do it that way? In otherwords, if I start with this game, will I be missing some important info from a prior game?

They can be played in any order. There are, however, some recurring characters within the games and an occasional reference to a previous game, so if that would bother you, I would start at the beginning and go from there.

Mikael (the developer) says in a lot of the game descriptions that it is not necessary to have played previous games in order to enjoy whatever particular game you are thinking of playing.

actually, looking at the screen shots, I believe I have played Remedy, but I don't really remember much about it. Maybe I should just do them in order after that, or is there one in the series that really stands out?

I think we all have different favourites in the series, so hard to answer. I like some more than others, but I enjoy playing them in order anyway. It's not just about the characters but also watching how the games develops and get improved one after the other. So for me I see them all together and wouldn't want to separate them, but that's me.

I really like the early games, so I would recommend playing them in order. The latest one is my favourite right now though. The story was very well written I felt. So it all depends of what kind of gamer you are I suppose. Hope you enjoy whatever one you try!

Laurette, Mikael will send you an email with the download link after you have paid for the game. His website says you will receive that email within 12 hours, but I have never had to wait anywhere near that long for it. Sometimes I wonder if/when Mikael ever sleeps.

I just finished Hope Springs Eternal, good game and not too long. I did need to resort to a walk thru for a few puzzles, but was mostly able to solve them on my own. I like the artwork, but there are a lot of scenes with no interaction available, more so than most other games I've played.

Do the later games in the series, including "Profound Red" use the same 'game engine' with the same look & feel? One thing I would have liked is for video when speaking to characters in the game, as opposed to just still photos with voice overs.

All Carol Reed games are a photograph tour of interesting places in Sweden. They all have the as you say: "same look and feel". The storyline (historical and unique) and mystery combined with the tour make the Carol Reed games what it is.

I have played all the Carol Reed games, nolalou, and that "sameness" is definitely part of the charm for me

Actually they aren't the same look, if you take what Nolalou just played, Hope Springs Eternal" has not the same look as the later games. The first Carol Reed games used a water color type filter that gradually, as new games were released, started to fade out (thankfully) until they are now beautiful actual HD photographs. The water color filters in the first several games is why I didn't get into the Carol Reed games because it drove my eyes bonkers but may or may not have been used because of the technology of that time. Each game after Remedy and Hope Springs Eternal gradually used less and less of the effect until, I believe, it was Black Circle that completely eliminated it and we were treated to the wonderful talent of Mikaels photography. It wasn't until Black Circle that I fell in love with Carol Reed and have played every game since, including the previous games and after already finishing Profound Red I am anxiously looking forward to Carols next Mystery.

Well the photos themselves may not be exactly the same type throughout the series, GreyFuss, but for me the game format as a whole has remained the same - and I like it

Just finished playing this. What a corker!

I loved the varied environments and would like to know more about them in real life, especially Mercury Street which is so evocative. I wish MDNA had a website which amplified information about the settings of the game.

When the credits rolled at the end I realised the club had a real life existence. In-game exploration of this was a real eye opener!

For the first time also I paid proper attention to the credit roll and got to see what Carol looks like and indeed what Mikael looks like.

I found all this background info extremely interesting and would like to know more.

Not that it answers any question you had, but I was with Mikael at Mercury Street when he was photographing, and took pictures of my own. Those won't be in my, hopefully-sometimes-soon-to-be-released game, but in the next I will use the same location.

There is no specific meaning to the title. It's just that there is a lot of red in the game, and that we've used colours in several previous titles. And it's supposed to be sort of a hommage to italian director Dario Argento's film "Profondo Rosso" (who also uses the title without any specific meaning).

BUT, I recently read a Russian review of the game, where the reviewer said that it was "obvious" that the title referred to the different shades of red appearing in the game, especially in the club scenes. So, I guess it's up to the player.

The allotment was not mine, but my wife's. She's sold it now. That's not a problem however, since Carol has sold her allotment too, to buy a summer house instead. It's very likely that it will appear in the next game.

I might create a web site that covers all the locations used in the games when I retire. There are several places that don't exist anymore, so it could also have a historical value for people that haven't played the games.

Mercury Street is shot in a small (almost) abandoned village called Bjornhammar. I found this video on YouTube from an Urban Explorer who has filmed the place. In real life, it's (quite ironically) called "Happy Street".

I know it sounds a bit perhaps childish, but I'm STILL super excited to be a part of a game.

Maybe the next game will find Carol in jail framed for a murder she didn't commit and its up to Stina and RebKean to prove her innocence. Find out how Bigge infiltrates the Cult located at the old Allotments and how Of course Mikael will be Carols Attorney but is he part of the conspiracy and will Carol will be found guilty? Will Jonas finally propose to Carol and live happily ever after or will the Police not believe his alibi at the time of the murder? Actually, the "detective" in my (upcoming) game is called Rebecca, so that part sounds about right, hehe. Oh, I read it wrong, you wrote Stina, not Carol, oops. Well, never mind that then. Perhaps Rebecca is the one framing Carol? Perfect! She wants to take over Carol's business! Oh yeah, this is gold.

I just finished the game, which I won here on Gameboomers. The 3rd one in the series that I've played. The orignal years ago, the 2nd game just about a month ago. I enjoyed Profound Red very much, though at first it took some getting used to the still photos instead of video when interacting with various characters in the game. I also though it could add to the enjoyment if you heard Carol's voice when she's asking questions, but those are minor complaints.

I wonder what 'game engine' is used to create these games. It might be fun to give game creation a try, and as I live in New Orleans, there are lots of great settings that could be used.

Interesting, I wonder if there is a tutorial, or how hard it is to learn. I used to work in IT and have programming experience, but never for game development. Using photographs means I wouldn't have to do a lot of animation. I might download and take a look at it.

There's a tutorial in the engine, yes. And if you click on "resources" at the top of the page, there are more help there. There's a forum as well. If you have experience, I'm sure you can read it. As I understand it, it's a very good engine and you can do a lot of stuff when you understand the coding. Mikael might have something to say about this, he's worked with the engine a long time now. I'm just a noob.

Are they not available on disks anymore? None of the Carol Reed games I have were downloaded. I like having the disk.

Digital versions only are now sold. Mikael explained that this was due to some new EU regulations, I believe, that would make selling physical disks more problematic for him. He does, however, offer artwork to download for a DVD case well as for the DVD itself, for Shades of Black and Profound Red.

No, no disks anymore. There are new rules regarding shipping, so you have to burn your own disk if you want one. Mikael have made covers for the games that can be downloaded though.

It's the only time so far that I've had to check if I'd taken my medicine for my blood pressure that day. If that helps?

I have been beta-testing the last two games for Mikael, but even though I beg him to tell me if there's any scary moments, he refuses to tell me! I am pretty sour about that, but what can I do? Well, I DO know what to do, pay him back in my own game of course.
But seriously, it is what it is. I love the games and I just have to live with the scares.

Yeah, I remember that many players commented on that scene. But even more on the FOLLOWING scene. I even received one or two complaints, since it "broke the serenity of the game". That might very well be true, but if so, it added to the shock effect!

I'll let you know how I feel about it when I play the game and get to that part.

Been there but nothing happened. Must be second visit. CCS is last Carol Reed I have. I'd get the rest but I have so may other adventure games to play already. Next one on the stack is Black Mirror III but since I don't remember II may have to replay that one.

I don't mind little scares like that one at all when they are so well incorporated.

But if you're talking about the photographing, it was fun but Mikael is too good at these things. We have been on a couple of places together, and there is quite a waiting period between me finishing and him finishing. No wonder the games look great!

And if you were talking about just being in a game, I'm really happy about that. I mean, it's forever. I'm in there forever. Haha, I know it might sound corny, but it makes me smile when I think about it.
