RHEM I SE - 02/01/17 06:04 PM

I know that after Rhem IV SE we have all been waiting for RHEM 5. But I went to the rhem website the other day and found the game RHEM I SE on the rhem website. The game has released for mac, but unfortunately not yet for windows. I thought i'd post this here because I have not seen much about this game on this website

There are Rhem fans here - in fact, we had a giveaway for Rhem IV SE last year, and the games are discussed from time to time.

We await Rhem V. I don't know if the Rhem SE will become available for PC. wave

Well on the website it said "Links to the windows version coming soon"

Thanks for the headsup Attaboy20.

I would assume that there will be a Windows version since you can download a Demo of it but the Mac Demo is coming soon, the opposite of the way the game is released as you say. I wish there was a way to just play the new part separate from the original. Going to check out the Demo now. http://www.rhem-game.com/en/rhem1se/index.htm

I'm hoping all the games will become playable on Windows 7 and 10 as I never got around to playing them.

Re: RHEM I SE - 02/02/17 01:42 PM

Fantastic news! RHEM and RHEM 2 are among my favourite games of all time and since I heard that Knut has plans to make SE versions of 1 - 3 (the fourth already has a SE version) I postponed playing 3 & 4. I read somewhere that Knut's plan is to ultimately (probably through RHEM 5) tie all the RHEM areas together and the SE treatment of the already existing games is supposedly part of that.

Since I have both a Mac and PC I'll probably buy this right away. Can't wait to revisit the fantastic world of RHEM!

Re: RHEM I SE - 02/02/17 06:02 PM

Actually they are if you get them from Gamersgate, You just need to install a few patches from the rhem website: http://rhem-game.com/support/index.htm

I'll state my opinion on the demo of Rhem I SE, It was like the rhem 1 demo, But i don't like how the ambient sounds from rhem 4 are in the game, I prefer the old ones.

Re: RHEM I SE - 03/17/17 01:46 AM

I have just heard about Rhem 1 SE, and I would like to know how to purchase the game for PC? I have tried to Google it but I only get info for Mac not PC.

Thanks
Ellen

I just saw this after I asked about a PC version, is the download the full SE version?

Re: RHEM I SE - 03/17/17 02:15 AM

Looks like this page shows a full game download. the price is 7.99 in British pounds (a little less than 10 dollars).

Re: RHEM I SE - 03/17/17 08:36 PM

I went to the site, purchased the game but there was no link to download the game, I'm now trying to email them to get this game. The links on the site didn't work so now what do I do?? I'm not calling overseas.

Re: RHEM I SE - 03/17/17 09:33 PM

Did you get an e-mail from the site? The download link might be on that. Check your spam folder also.
Posted By: ellen941

Re: RHEM I SE - 03/18/17 04:24 AM

they never asked for any info from me, I clicked on the link and went to the site, then I clicked on the link to purchase and paid, I expected to get a link to start the download, but nothing. I'm trying to get a hold of them to get a link to download the game.

Re: RHEM I SE - 03/18/17 05:06 AM

Did you pay via Paypal? When I click on buy, it takes me direct to PayPal. If so, they have your email address.

You can go to Support and then select Serial Number Retrieval.

Re: RHEM I SE - 03/20/17 12:17 PM

I received an email from them telling me I only have one game registered with them and it Rhem IV. I will have to try my other email that is registered with Paypal. If no luck there I will request a refund from Paypal.

and once again they say that there is no record of me paying for this game, so now what? I requested a refund but I have to wait till they respond. That is not a good site if I can't download a game I paid for.

Re: RHEM I SE - 03/20/17 03:38 PM

Maybe your payment did not get through when you ordered.
Do you have a receipt? Usually the online stores sends one to the e-mail address used.
Check your spam folder. Keep us posted.

Re: RHEM I SE - 03/20/17 04:07 PM

Depending on the paypal method you chose, some take days to go through. Take a screenshot of your paypal transaction and send it to them. They are responding to you so it doesn't sound like they are shady.

Also, have you purchased from them before? Maybe you clicked Rhem IV by mistake.

Re: RHEM I SE - 03/24/17 08:35 PM

I did everything correct, I received an email from them saying there was a problem on the site and they sent me the links and codes for my game, I am now a very happy boomer. smile

Now that I have my game I'm off to Rhem again, this time with the special edition.

Re: RHEM I SE - 05/05/17 11:54 PM

I bought one of the first copies of Rhem 1 directly from Knut Mueller way back when. It came on some CDs in unprinted white envelopes all in a small black folder that said Rhem. It became one of my favorites games 2nd only to the Myst, Riven, Myst 3 games.

Anyway, I just decided to go back and try Rhem I SE. I ordered it from the UK Runesoft site as mentioned above. It is a little quirky to order this way. You place your order for the download, but in my case, although I received an immediate email from PayPal, I didn't get any email from the company that processes the orders to indicate that they had received my order for several hours. It was a little irritating in this digital day and age since I wanted to try the game right away.

However, finally the email came which contains a code which allows you to get the serial# from another site. You also given a download link for the game.

So it's all installed and running nicely on a Dell M1210 laptop running Win7. Interesting changes from the original: Apparently, these new Rhem downloads (Rhem 1 SE and Rhem IV SE) are for Win 7 and upwards, not for WinXP. Maybe they run on WinXP, but I didn't try my Rhem 1 SE. Also, you can save games either in the Rhem folder or you have the option to save somewhere else. This is really nice since you can save games on a flash drive and use it to run Rhem 1 SE on another computer somewhere else. That was possible, in a sense, with the original Rhem 1, but only because you could set up the entire game on a flash drive- the original Rhem was not registered in the registry and your WinXP computer didn't know it existed.

Re: RHEM I SE - 05/19/17 05:06 PM

Fwiw: Although WinXP is not listed as an OS for Rhem 1 SE, it appears to run fine on it. Also, game Saves created under the original Rhem 1 are named slightly differently and don't run under Rhem 1 SE even when I tried to rename the old Rhem 1 Saves in the Rhem 1 SE format.

Re: RHEM I SE - 05/23/17 05:53 PM

So, how is the new area and the new puzzles in Rhem 1 SE?
(if i understand it correctly there is a new area and new puzzles like
it was in Rhem IV SE). And is the new area big or is it just a tiny
addition?

EDIT: Misunderstood you because of english not being my native language.
Now i got what you meant wink

Re: RHEM I SE - 05/23/17 07:26 PM

I have not played that new part of the game.
While waiting for those that have played, I checked the walkthrough addition written by attaboy.
It looks like several complex puzzles were added and it involves more roaming around the area.

Re: RHEM I SE - 05/24/17 01:53 AM

I haven't experienced the new SE area or puzzles yet. I'm replaying the entire game using my old notes from, gulp, 11+ years ago. Fwiw, it's only because I can recognize my own handwriting that I can be sure I actually solved some of those original puzzles! smile

Re: RHEM I SE - 06/08/17 10:11 AM

Hello everyone,

as 2 weeks have passed since my last post:
Has anyone experienced the new puzzles now?
As always, no spoilers please. Just your opinion about them
in general (length, difficulty level - yes i know
as far as RHEM is concerned, i am a total nerd ;-)

I have started playing the game, btw. I haven't accomplished much so far,
just the first of the somewhat bigger puzzles.
Man, i have forgotten everything, it has been such so long time ago.
I am surprised that i find the game quite difficult so far, especially
navigating this huge area is hard for me, i have quite
a bad spatial orientation and Rhem I seems to be the hardest
one in that regard compared to all Rhem's. I feel a bit overwhelmed,
but this is always the case for Rhem, i think.
Can't believed i solved the game on my own 15(?) years ago (except the very last puzzle)

It's a very niche game mike, not sure how many people played or are playing.

Not sure what you are talking about, ana ;-)

I have played and solved all Rhem's (including Rhem 1, mentioned that in my post above)
and are a huge fan of these games and Knut. I know them pretty well.
My question was only about the SE part.

@ANA: Sorry i misunderstood your post because english is not my first language.
Now i get what you meant ;-)

Re: RHEM I SE - 06/09/17 09:23 PM

I'm still working my way through the original parts of Rhem 1 SE partly because I only have limited time available. But the experience has only reaffirmed how much I love these games. I actually bought a Sony Vaio VGN-TZ185N laptop (less than $200 for what was a $2500 unit in 2007) in new condition off of eBay for the purpose of completing all the new SE versions of Rhem that are out or about to be. The glorious 11inch screen which was rated as one of the best ever really fleshes out the colors in Rhem.

Rhem has a major thing in common with the Myst games (besides the solitary experience and limited story): The original puzzles unlike almost any other puzzle-based AGs. These others have some original puzzles, but not as many or as intricately tied together as in the Rhem and Myst games.

Is the resolution of the graphics higher in RHEM I SE edition? The original was only 640x480 which some modern graphics cards have trouble handling and that doesn't look that great on big screens.

Agree about the puzzles in RHEM. Actually I think the RHEM games I've played (I and II) have had even better puzzle design than any of the Myst games, even Riven. The puzzles and the way things are tied together are amazing. Pure genius.

The graphics appear to be the same 640x480. I can't disagree on the puzzle design being better than the Myst games though I'd have to say that the Myst graphics were better and thus, some of the puzzles appeared more elegant.

It still amazes me how many Rhem reviews made a big deal about the lack of much story and the fact that it's just puzzle after puzzle. Geez whiz, Rhem is a puzzle game! It's like criticizing a convertible car for not having a hard top or a glider for not having an engine. smile

The puzzles are certainly better in the RHEM games than in the more recent games from Cyan. I think Cyan's using a 3D game engine limited their options and hurt the actual puzzling.

It's because it was called an "adventure game."

It's too bad Myst and similar games were ever referred to as "adventure games" instead of "environmental puzzle games" or something similar.

If they hadn't been called "adventure games" maybe there wouldn't have been all that rubbish talk about "undermining the genre" like what RichAlexis saw at the Wikipedia recently (and mentioned ***here***).

I think the genius of the RHEM games (again, I've so far only played the first two) is the way exploration and solving puzzles in the game environment creates just as much tension and intrigue as more story driven games can.

Re: RHEM I SE - 06/24/17 10:22 PM

I am enjoying my return to Rhem 1, but it is a slow slog. I only have so much time in a day to play.

There are a few things that are a nice improvement of Rhem 1 SE over the original:

1. The Main Menu is available by simply pressing ESC whereas before you had to enter Ctrl-M.

2. On startup there is the option of Full Screen vs. playing in a window. That is a big improvement over the original where in order to get a full screen you had change to 16bit color and fool with other settings. Even then sometimes getting full screen was quirky. Now it is very reliable regardless of other settings.

3. With Rhem 1 SE, you can Hibernate without exiting the game and when restarting Windows, you will return to exactly where you were in the game. In the original Rhem 1, returning from a Hibernate never seemed to work for me.
