Just finished Gorogoa, a beautiful game - 12/23/17 06:12 PM
Just finished playing Gorogoa, a unique puzzler game with beautiful graphics and relaxing background music. There is a bit of a story arc to it, but it is presented with no conversations or text. The game takes place in four quadrants of the display in which there are scenes which can be zoomed in or out of, or otherwise manipulated. The scene in a quadrant can be slid to another quadrant, or sometimes on top of another quadrant, allowing (for example) a doorway in one quadrant to be realized as part of another quadrant's scene, thus allowing a path between the scenes. It's harder to explain than to understand by watching the game video, available here.
I held back from getting any help when I was stuck and it was very satisfying when I eventually stumbled on the solution. The game is not long, was very relaxing to play, yet challenging. The hand drawn graphics were quite beautiful and perfectly matched by the atmospheric background music. There were a few situations where you really needed to think out of the box to continue, such that I had to laugh when the solution was found. I'd say if you enjoy solving puzzles, game atmosphere and great hand drawn graphics, you'll enjoy the game. If you need more plot and story and are less into puzzles, you may want to pass.
