Adventure Games VS. Hidden Object Games

I have never played a hidden object game although some of them look very interesting. I see now that GOG is starting to carry them now. I would like to know from someone what is the main difference between the two. Would someone who loves a good true point and click adventure game enjoy a hidden object game? Thanks in advance

Sometimes a good HOG is a nice brainless diversion and I thoroughly enjoy them. I have several of the older ones from Big Fish which I frequently play. Through painful experience with the new ones, I have found that I loathe the insipid comments, horrible voice acting and other other intrusions. However, many others enjoy them, so I'm not a good judge!

What I would do is to peruse a few that look interesting at Big Fish and then download a trial version to see if you like them.

There are some very good ones out there but there are so many of them that it's not always an easy matter to figure out which ones are the best. I think the Nightmares from the Deep games and Enigmatis series that GOG is selling would be a fine place to start. If you get one of those, it's best that you get the first game in each series for starters as both series constitute something of a trilogy.

Some of these games in this genre have very few hidden object scenes and there have been others released that have none, in which case we like to call them adventure lite. I know some people who have dismissed these games as holding no interest for them and then they experience one of the really good ones and their opinion changes dramatically.

I mostly agree with this statement by Draclvr, BUT some do have puzzles that can stump you!

They don't replace adventure games for me; they are more of a supplement. The only way to know is to try one.

And I love the "adventure lite" games and would love to see more of them. Remember the Drawn series?! Count Zero, you might want to check those out at Big Fish.

Check there for some suggestions on what to try.

You can get demos of games from Big Fish that let you play 60 to 90 minutes (depending on the game) to see if you like the game before purchase.

However, they have got much better over the years and that statement isn't totally true these days

I have been playing Enigmatis: The Ghosts of Maple Creek for a few hours now and I really like it. I will definitely be playing more of these types of games now. Thanks everyone for all the info on these types of games. Having a great time playing it.

I completed the game and had a great time with it. I hope the other two are just as good. Now, back to Life is Strange Chapter 5....

Enigmatis #2 was my favorite, but they were all good.
