Announcing Dustborn - 03/10/20 02:26 AM

Fans of Ragnar Tørnquist will be thrilled to know that he is working on a new game called Dustborn.

Check out the "unofficial" page here.

Quote
The year is 2030, three decades since the environmental disaster that changed everything and created a new subclass, 'Dustborn'. You play Pax: prison bird, petty criminal, outcast - born with superhuman powers she never asked for and which is as much a burden as a gift. With the help of a group of supportive revolutionaries, she must smuggle an important package past the fascist regime that is chasing her.

Dustborn is a third-person, single player, future-western; a road trip across a divided country; a politically charged adventure with a stylized cartoon aesthetic in a colorful dystopian vision of a world not miles from our own.

About the company:

Red Thread Games is a development studio for games for PCs, consoles and mobile platforms. The studio was founded in the fall of 2012 by Ragnar Tørnquist, creator of The Longest Journey and Dream Fall, and one of Norway's most experienced and well-known game producers and directors. Red Thread Games is ready to launch with the fjord noir adventure Draugen, and is also working on the polar punk role-playing game Svalbard. Both have received grants from the NFI.

About the project

Much thanks to ergggo for finding this gem!

I would like to read more about a new game by Ragnar Tornquist but that "unofficial" page is in a different language and when clicking the 'English' Link in the upper right corner it takes you to the Norwegian Film Institute. Very strange, maybe I am the only one?

You need to translate the page I linked to, Greyfuss. I copied the translated page on the announcement. It is funded by the Norwegian Film Institute. Red Thread Games has not yet announced it. Much thanks to ergggo for sleuthing it out!

LOL...translate...I don't even know what language that is? lol

Okay Sheriff...I thought I would be able to see some screenshots there but all it must be is what you posted with no other info. Thanks for the heads up. smile

Thanks for the sleuthing credit, Ana, but it probably should be more of a stumble credit. Others did the sleuthing and I stumbled across their reporting of the Norwegian Film Institute grant to Red Thread while doing some googling. In any case, I'm really looking forward to Red Thread's next game.

Red Thread semi-officially announced the game here.

Quote
Our new game DUSTBORN just received a generous grant from Norsk filminstitutt, the Norwegian Film Institute (NFI).

This is the second grant Dustborn has received from NFI. The game has also received development support from Viken Film and Creative Europe.

Dustborn is currently in early development. We have not officially announced the game, but we hope to share more details about our alternate history, near-future road trip adventure soon!

Red Thread's last game Draugen would not have existed if it wasn't for NFI, Viken and Creative Europe. We are hugely grateful for the grants and the continuing support from the Norwegian Film Institute.

The Norwegian indie game industry is still in its infancy, and the ongoing financial support is instrumental in ensuring growth and allowing original games like Dustborn to exist. 🙏🏽
