Play as an old man, embarking on a journey in his self-built van in search of redemption.
German indie studio Third Shift today announced that they are working on a third-person single-player adventure called Forever Ago, scheduled to be released in 2021 on Steam. It's their debut title, in which players will take control of Alfred, an old man who, following a tragic stroke of faith, sets out to travel to beautiful places, capture memories with his camera, meet and talk to interesting people, and even make some new friends.
"It really is a heartfelt and nuanced story that we want players to experience. Themes like broken dreams, loss, and regret—but also courage, hope, and true friendship are constantly present," says Fabian Denter, one half of Third Shift. "It also drifts away from the typical stereotype of heroes in video games that we all know too well by now. Alfred is not only in his mid-70s but also a character with flaws," adds Kai Brueckers, the other half of the small indie studio.
To bring the story to life, Third Shift was able to get some renowned voice actors like Cissy Jones (Firewatch, Life is Strange) and Dave Pettitt (Valiant Hearts: The Great War, Frostpunk) on board.
