Announcing The Adventures of Bryan Scott - 08/01/21 07:15 PM

Broken Sword fans will rejoice in this latest undertaking by Radio Silence Studios. Rolf Saxon has already agreed to voicing Bryan for the English version! Here is some details I was graciously provided by the developer.

Check them out on Discord here.

The future website will be here.

Quote
The Story:

Bryan Scott, son of the well-known and late archaeologist John W. Scott, receives a small package from near East at the beginning of the game, in which he finds a diary of the missing treasure hunter Kate Williams. He finds out that she is looking for the legendary treasure of Queen Sheba, which is mentioned in the 2nd Book of Kings from the Bible. Not entirely voluntarily, Bryan travels to the near East shortly afterwards in order to follow Kate's trail and to find her. Last but not least, his father had searched for this treasure for many years, but without success. Bryan has felt a purpose in life for a long time to continue his father's work. Shortly after his arrival in the near East, his trail leads him to the secret society "The Black Fist", which is also looking for the legendary treasure of Queen of Sheba. A dangerous and exciting adventure begins!

Additional story info:

One of the central locations in the game will be Aksum, a city in Ethiopia. From there the real journey of the game starts, because until today some people think the empire of Queen of Sheba was located there. It goes hand in hand with reports of King Salomon. I would love to involve also places like Peru, but at the moment Iā€™m not that far in the story process/writing.

Kate plays one of the main roles in the game, and if Kickstarter is successful, she will also be a playable character (such as Nico in Broken Sword). Finding Kate is one of the first big quests in the game.

There is also Hugo, the little monkey, who is found by Bryan when he arrives in Aksum. Hugo will be also a central character in the game, and Bryan has to solve puzzles with his help.

General information about the game:

Development is currently being carried out on Windows, i.e. this version will also have priority, but the game will definitely also be released for Mac, Linux is not yet planned. In terms of gameplay, it will be a classic point & click adventure in the style of Broken Sword and Deponia.

The story takes place in a realistic world around the year 2025. So we will have some futuristic elements, which will be already seen in the demo. But to clarify things, those elements should just spice up the overall realistic setting. No Sci-Fi- or cyberpunk genre is planned.

Interface

The game is played via a simple 1-click interface, all backgrounds are hand-drawn in full HD and with a love of detail. E.g. I put a poster in the first scene that pays homage to Broken Sword 1. After consulting Revolution Software for using this reference, they immediately agreed and wished me every success with the further development of the game.

Animations/graphics

The animations are real frame-by-frame, so no spine animations or similar. In addition, all cursors for picking up objects, interacting or examining are already hand-drawn and animated. Based on the interface of Broken Sword, the atmosphere from back then is to be presented in a new guise.

Voice dubbing/translation

Alexander Schottky (aka George Stobbart) already accepted the role of Bryan and started the work on voice recording within today. Here in Germany he is well known from the Broken Sword series, so this means also a lot to our german community.

In addition, there is the German voice of Bodo Henkel (including Xardas from Gothic / Piranha Bytes) in another role.
Last but not least we contacted Rolf Saxon as well, who has also agreed to the role of Bryan Scott. At the moment both main voice actors are working on the recordings.

The voice actors will appear in German and English, texts/subtitles from menus and speech will also be provided in Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Polish and hopefully Russian as well. At the moment we are working very hard to have also the cyrillic characters available in our game font.

Team:

Two former Daedalic employees are currently working on the illustrations and animations, who have many years of experience in gaming and the adventure genre. One of them worked in the Netflix film "Klaus" as a senior 2D lighting artist. In addition, there is an experienced freelancer & scriptwriter from Spain who supports me with the implementation and programming in Visionaire Studio. Music and sound effects fall into my area of responsibility (see here my works here: Radio Silence Records - YouTube)

Current status:

Clear goal is to complete a demo on steam, itchio etc. latest this fall, and the associated start of a Kickstarter campaign around the same time. If everything goes as hoped, the final release is planned for the end of 2022 / beginning of 2023. The website is still being planned, so everything is currently running on a Discord server, on which I regularly post updates and information about the game

Happy Gaming!
