FYI: the demo is in fact gorgeous. Astoundingly beautiful graphics. A little taxing on the old PC re. optimization, but stunning to look at. However, fair warning: if you're a PC gamer who uses mouse and keyboard ONLY (I don't have or use a gamepad or controller, old-schooler that I am), beware that the KB controls are difficult to use (at least in the demo). Besides, the game itself has a warning at the begining: "gamepad recommended."
---For instance, in the demo, there is a dark cave-type area, where you MUST hold down the right-mouse-clicker to KEEP your "lantern" lit also while ALSO using either the default WASD keys (or you can re-program them, as I did, to use arrow keys for direction). I could NOT keep the mouse button held AND use movement keys so I could not quickly jump (when required). Thus: plummeting to my death. Over and over. I eventually gave up and uninstalled the demo. Until this dark area in the demo, the game worked fine with my M/KB controls (outside in a beautiful forest, interacting with a host of lovely beings and animals), because it was daylight and I didn't need my lantern. I was so dissapointed I could not continue.
Perhaps the DEV (s) will adjust programming so non-controller/GP users can play teh game. I hope so: it's so beautiful!

Thanks for the info robedits! Maybe post in the Steam "discussions" and see if you get a reply from the devs.

That's unfortunate to hear robedits! Thank you for the info! I don't like doing gymnastics with my fingers to play a game.

I really DO like the look of this game. Thanks BrownEyedTigre (and robedits) yes

Re: Bramble the Mountain King Demo Released - 11/07/22 03:24 AM

I downloaded the Demo and am going to give it a try.

EDIT: Clumsy, awful interface. I assumed it would be the good old "mouse for direction and WASD keys" for movement. Nope. Mouse does nothing, so you are reduced to holding the W key and using the A and D keys for direction. I've played games like this, but it's not fun. Had to give up on an RPG because of it. This is definitely a gamepad game. I have one, so maybe I need to learn how to use it. But I am terribly disappointed because it is a beautiful game and appears to be a good one.

Thanks Ana, doesn't sound like a game for me unless they fix the controls.

ABsolutely, oldbroad. POsted in Steam discussion groups . NO response from DEVs yet but hopefully they'll fix the control scheme for M-KB players (admittedly we M-KB users are considered dinosaurs by the game creators nowadays as so many games are console ports). I don't have a lot of hope this will happen. WHich is a shame: it's a stunning looking game.

robedits, I'm going to post there too. I would really like to play this game.

I got a very immature response when I posted my critique on the Steam discussion group. From some childish console lover, I guess. Basically "get a gamepad, grandpa" was the gist of it.

The developer responded:

Hi!

The demo is optimized for gamepad, but we will do the best we can to make it work as good as possible for keyboard & mouse before release!

Best

Re: Bramble the Mountain King Demo Released - 04/27/23 02:57 PM

Thanks, Ana. I download the "new and improved" Demo which is supposed maximize the keyboard/mouse controls. Wrong. There is zero directional control with the mouse - still just WASD. If all you do is walk around, it would be tolerable, but there is no precision or fluidity in movement. I am SO disappointed.

Yes. Disappointing 👎

That's unfortunate, Drac. It looked like such a good game.

Re: Bramble the Mountain King Demo Released - 05/07/23 10:38 PM

Unfortunately, poor ports to PC seems to be a trend for the last year or more. Interestingly enough, the (previous) next gen consoles are set up to allow the optional use of a keyboard and mouse as opposed to a controller. I wonder how the controls using a keyboard/mouse combo on a console work out? I'm on the edge of going back to console for awhile since the PC I built 5 years ago is in decline from a compatability standpoint, which means I'd have to build from the ground up again. *Sigh*, I used to love that "new video card smell" before they started requiring a house refinance to purchase. lol

This game does look good, and it appears they are still making improvements from the few forums I perused. This is only the second game released by the Dev group Dimfrost, and the first one, I believe, under the watchful gaze of their new (as of 2020) parent company Zordix. So they may still be in sort of a shake out run. Hope they fix it up soon, I'd like to give it a go as well.

Re: Bramble the Mountain King Demo Released - 05/08/23 12:57 AM

Yeah, there was a point where you needed to sell a kidney to be able to afford a new video card! Now, you can just refinance your house! I'm running an Nvidia GTX 2070 and so far it's been sufficient for anything I've thrown at it. But I know the day will come!

This is just the kind of game I like for a change of pace, but without the fluidity of movement offered by the mouse, I just can't warm up to it. Constant key mashing with the WASD keys to move around is just not fun for me.
