Confused re: Gamehouse and Spin Top - 11/19/09 08:45 PM

I'm breaking down and paying $19.99 for Delicious: Emily's Holiday Season.

I bought the previous two Delicious games from Gamehouse because BFG doesn't offer them, but downloaded them to an older computer I don't use for games or much of anything else because of the malware and information sharing concerns I read here.

Because I'd much rather play the game on my regular game computer, however, before proceeding with Emily's Holiday Season I re-read the post at http://www.gameboomers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/563821/1.html.

What I got from that discussion was that downloading from Gamehouse is to be avoided but downloading from Spin Top is okay.

After downloading the demo from Spin Top, then, I was surprised to see that the first splash screen in the game say "Gamehouse."

Did I just infect my regular games computer with malware, etc., by downloading from Spin Top?

And why would Gamehouse be a problem but Spin Top okay when it appears there is a relationship between them, at least with respect to the Delicious games?

GPM...

Once again I will bow to those in the KNOW, but I believe that the original peeps who put out the game are from Gamehouse, but sent to you by SpinTop which is perfectly safe. Not a part of Gamehouse, just gets games from them, not a party to downloading them from their site.

Jody (who hopes that makes sense)

You are correct jody, the software that is invasive is from the website, not the game itself. SpinTop does not install invasive tracking devices or other potentially intrusive traces on your computer regardless who developed the game.

Ah ha! So it's something that comes WITH the download that's evil!

After trying to be so careful, I just about died when I saw the Gamehouse splash screen pop up!

Thank you, Jody & Ana!

I just got an email from Sandlot Games saying they're selling this for $6.99.

(Oh, what a difference a day makes!)

I **think** Sandlot is an okay download site (?) and, while I only checked quickly, I don't think that's a member's price. I think they're offering it to anyone for that price.

And I know just what you mean about laughing and crying, BellaRosa! I think it's the compelling storylines, creative tasks and changing environments that really sets this series apart!

GPM, Sandlot seems safe to download from, I did not see anything that stands out. Their prices range from 19.99 to free depending on the game. Not a bad deal.

I bought one game from Sandlot a few months ago and also ordered the CD and had a very good experience all around.
