Gamezebo - getting virus warning

Gamezebo - getting virus warning - 01/24/10 12:38 PM

For the past few days, I've been trying to access the review page of Gamezebo.
Either I get an AVG virus alert, or the page just shuts down my internet browser. Any one else having problems?

Several people on the Big Fish forums are reporting strange messages/occurrences when going to Gamezebo. I'm wondering if this might be web-browser related? I have no problems when going to Gamezebo and am using Firefox, but the people so far who have reported strange goings-on have been using Internet Explorer.

It's very odd.

I use IE and have AVG, but suddenly I lost my tool bar, but only on BF, which is very strange.

Now it's back again. I have no idea how it disappeared a little while ago.

I went to Gamezebo on both IE8 and Firefox with no problems. I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials.

Hi All,

This what Joel (Owner of Gamezebo) posted in the Big Fish forums a few days ago about this situation:

I copied and pasted his message over here:

Hello,

It's Joel from Gamezebo, I hope it's fine writing back here.

There should not be any issues with the Gamezebo web site. I checked with various anti-virus sites such as Norton and Mcafee and both gave the Gamezebo site a clean bill of health. I'm going to check into it more to make sure they are not giving any of our visitors any false positives (frustrating!)

If you have any issues with the Gamezebo site, please click on "contact us" at the bottom of the page on Gamezebo and tell me exactly what the issue is, it'll help us make sure everything is working correct with the site.

Thank you again (and thank you BFG for writing back to users at this forum).

Best,
Joel

Thanks, Margie, for passing this along. I didn't see Joel's note on Big Fish, so I appreciate your posting this. smile

Re: Gamezebo - getting virus warning - 01/25/10 12:02 PM

Thanks Margie but I cannot go there to report anything as every time I go to Gamezebo something happens- tonight the worst.

It started a few days - the day Mortimer was released as I was looking for reviews and I would get a window that Windows was trying to install something.
I turned off the power and thought it a coincidence it happened at Gamezebo but sure enough the next time I visited it did it again.

I stayed away a few days but tonight thinking all should be ok - I had one of those fake trojan warnings and buy the software to get rid of it-- hijacked my wallpaper etc etc
Malwarebytes got rid of it.

All I was doing was browsing Jessica Cup Cakes tips and tricks eek

So... I can only conclude it comes from Gamezebo. confused

I think it's right big of Big Fish to post this for Gamehouse. Maybe it is a chance for reconciliation between these two. We can always hope...for us but more especially for them.

Re: Gamezebo - getting virus warning - 01/26/10 11:05 AM

I'm still having the "warning - Trojan Horse" as of this morning when going to Gamezebo. Using AVG. That's rather a frightening warning, siren and all, and I'll avoid the site until I read an "all-clear" here or at BFG forums. Thanks...

That is exactly what I am doing after getting that malware from there Robetson- staying away. What a shame they cannot pick up on it. frown

I use GZ everyday, sometimes several times, and have never had a wit of trouble.
Then again, I use all the latest and most updated bells and whistles for security.

But this concerned me so I have been keeping watch on it.
Here is what I discovered...

Gamezebo - False Positive Messages Update and Solution

Posted on 01/25/10, 01:39pm

Hello all,

Many of you have written in to us that you have been receiving trojan alerts when coming to Gamezebo, especially through Internet Explorer and Kaspersky anti virus software. We've investigated and I wanted to give you an update:

Based on our research, Kaspersky (and perhaps other anti-virus softwares) are showing a "false positive" on web sites using Google AdSense to sell ads (which is a lot of web sites on the Internet, including Gamezebo). A "false positive" means that it is reporting a error by mistake. There is nothing wrong with the Gamezebo web site and you do not have to worry about the trojan warning. We would never post any malicious links on our web site.

Kaspersky says that have solved the false report with their latest update but it's up to Google as well to investigate the issue, since it seems to be an issue with a lot of anti-virus software. To review the issue yourself, here is link to Kaspersky forums where the problem seems to have been initially found.

Also, check out these links to Google forums:

Google Boards Page 1

Google Boards Page 2

Our assumption is that Google is fixing the issue since it impacts so many web sites and we sent them a direct email requesting an explanation and notification of a fix. And, we'll continue to look into it.

In the meantime, we're taking down our links to Google Ad Sense in our ad server until we know that this i resolved by Google. By doing this, the false warnings should go away.

I apologize for the scare and any inconvenience. Please continue to email us directly or post here if you have any concerns or see any warnings. We would not have been able to figure this out without your help and feedback (seriously, it made no sense to us and took us days to figure out what was happening) and we thank you for your continual help and support.

Best,
Joel (Chief Gamezebo)

So, it seems the good folks there are on the ball and sorting things out for us!
IMHO, it always has been and will always be a secure site.

Re: Gamezebo - getting virus warning - 01/27/10 01:53 PM

What I got came from Gamezebo no question but these things happen. It was not a virus but it was malicious software.
I upgraded my browser to IE 8. Been holding on to IE 7 far too long, hopefully that will help.

Re: Gamezebo - getting virus warning - 01/27/10 06:07 PM

Well, the Trojan warning is still there with AVG protection program as of 1:00 P.M. today. Since I don't get this warning with any other of the dozens of sites I visit, I will assume it's a Gamezebo problem, not AVG's. I hope they get it fixed and will wait to revisit until someone posts an all-clear for AVG and Gamezebo itself.

Re: Gamezebo - getting virus warning - 01/28/10 09:25 PM

This thread is over my head, but thank goodness it was here yesterday when my husband (my own computer expert) needed it to remove some virus or trojan or whatever from my computer. I remembered seeing a thread here about a virus warning and told him about it. He found out about Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware here and that solved the problem my computer was having. I want to thank everyone who posted here as you all were a big help to him, believe you me! I was ready to trash my computer if the problem wasn't able to be solved.
Thank goodness I had my NintendoDS on hand and was able to play a hidden object game on it (Amazing Adventures: The Forgotten Ruins) to help me during the trauma of not being able to use my WinXP.

I just went there, and checked my Mc Afee protection, and it said that it did not encounter any signifcant threat. It gets, as Alice said, CURIOUSER and CURIOUSER.

Re: Gamezebo - getting virus warning - 01/28/10 11:24 PM

I use Avast!4Home and never got a warning about GameZebo - did you try contacting AVG?

To assume the problem is with GameZebo isn't really fair - sometimes your anti-virus will read things as a trojan that doesn't exist. Norton's used to be really bad for that.

If your AVG said GameBoomers had a virus, would you just automatically believe it? Contact AVG and see what they tell you. You might just be surprised.

Or you can just stay away from GameZebo. But I have been several times since this posting and never a problem yet *knock on wood*

Just IMHO.
