Re: Mystery of Mortlake Mansion - New IHOG on BigFish - 12/17/10 04:17 PM

I've been waiting for this to arrive at Big Fish since it was released last month on the Playrix website.

Beautiful graphics, interesting storyline, two levels of difficulty from which to choose, and you can even decide on the gender for the voiceovers. The game provides both a map and a journal. Numerous puzzles to solve. Hints refill quickly.

Based on 30 minutes with the demo, this is a CE-quality game (without the CE price). Being able to use one of my game credits on it is the icing on the cake. happydance12 reindeer

Hi, Ana!

Thanks for the heads up. The reviews so far have been good so, if I enjoy it enough to buy it after playing the demo, I've still got a Club Member credit left that I can use.

It saved for me when I stopped, so not sure why this is happening to you. If you are running Vista or Windows 7, you could make sure you are running the game as the administrator.

Great game. Lots of neat features like the choice of male or female voice. And voice acting is well done. Graphics aren't especially sophisticated but cool special effects when traveling between "dimensions". HO scenes are clear and objects not too difficult to find. Easy puzzles and unlimited hints which refresh immediately. Hint system will also help if you need to know what to do next. Map feature allows you to move about the mansion easily.

lol12 My bad! I type in the graemlin codes and keep forgetting to add the "12" behind it for the Christmas ones so they do not show up. I'll get the hang of it just about the time we get the old graemlins back.

Read all your recommendations, so just bought it and I love it.

Only criticism is my mouse is a bit sluggish, but I can live with that.

Hi, Redz!

I just finished as well, and loved it. In fact, I think I'll play it again because it wasn't until near the end that I realized I could use my map to move from room to room blush !

I really enjoyed this game! It was pretty long, too. Nice assortment of puzzles and the different "dimensions" added a nice twist.

I feel the same way about the really good games. You just hope that the next game you choose will be as satisfying.

Re: Mystery of Mortlake Mansion - New IHOG on BigFish - 12/19/10 10:37 PM

I agree it's a great one. Got stuck for a while because I couldn't find one of the torn scraps, but now nearly finished.

Other greats:
SH; hound of the baskervilles
13th Skull

These H.O. games are being so well developed with decent story-lines, they almost qualify as "real" adventures.

Re: Mystery of Mortlake Mansion - New IHOG on BigFish - 12/19/10 11:10 PM

Nice to see you, Tally Ho! I agree with what you said; the line between these games and "real" adventures is becoming ever thinner. You could almost say that adventure games are undergoing a resurgence via the "casual-game" route; it's a very interesting trend to observe. happydance12

Many of these adventure-lite casual games seem to me to have encapsulated the fun elements of adventure games while eliminating the sometimes-frustrating elements of "real" adventure games. That is one of the attractions of these games for me. wave12

I have to agree, this one was a very worthwhile purchase for me.
Making it especially nice was the ability to use
an earned game credit to buy,
& an extra punch on my card for buying!

Re: Mystery of Mortlake Mansion - New IHOG on BigFish - 12/29/10 03:06 AM

Well, I did it. I finally finished Mystery of Mortlake Mansion. It was quite a ride, though I could have done without the string puzzles. Those always pull my strings. whistle

There was also a light up all the squares, which I had to skip because it was lighting me up. But the nice this about skip was that I received what would have been given had I solved the puzzle. Very nice.

You may not like the game if you don't like going from place to place collecting pieces for this room or that. Or if your eyesight is like mine, then you won't like the darkened appearance of the shadow rooms as you try and find the objects in the HOG searches.

But overall, it was a great game to play. Even though it had string puzzles.

I just finished Mystery of Mortlake Mansion also and I really liked it. I agree about the string games, only thing I really didn't like. I liked the way you could move around using the map. I thought it was a great HOG and it took quite a long time to play. Great game.

Re: Mystery of Mortlake Mansion - New IHOG on BigFish - 12/29/10 06:39 AM

I didnt like the string puzzles either, although I did manage to finish them - I dont mind one or two, but not one after another after another.

I also liked the map - It would be nice to see these maps as standard in games where there are many locations to travel to.

Re: Mystery of Mortlake Mansion - New IHOG on BigFish - 01/01/11 06:49 AM

I thought I was good at string puzzles, until I played this.

I enjoyed the game, wish more would let me pick gender. Get tired of playing girls all the time.

There is one person who loves string puzzles, me.

The more the merrier. I was glad to see more than just one. They really are quite simple once you get the knack of how to do them. Spreading out helps a lot.
