I tried the demo but I'll pass on this one. I like the games where you have to find the pieces of an object, but the pieces are so small, I have to continuously have to use the hint to find them.

I feel the same as you do Tammy64,played 10 minutes of it and uninsulated it. Couldn't find the parts had to use the hints all the time.

Most of the comments on the Big Fish forums are similar to the ones that have been posted here. It's too bad, because PlayFirst usually makes very good games.

I think that it's really too bad that this game has received the reviews that it's gotten. Not that they are undeserved.

I managed to make it well into the third chapter when the demo time ran out. I usually don't like FROGS, but I did manage to make my way through the first three chapters with relatively no problems. And although I did use the hints a couple of times, I didn't use them excessively. I did have to rely on my cheater glasses to find the objects I was looking for.

This game had the makings for a very nice game. Unfortunately, the problems outweighed the better features. Hopefully, the developers will take note and come out with something that will satisfy the majority of casual gamers. smile

It's great to read your comments, Sherlock. I haven't tried the game yet, but I feel sure that's a very fair appraisal. smile

I beta tested this game and I would have liked it except for the fact that I had to use the hint button so often. I did comment on the fact in my survey, but I guess the game had already been developed and they were just testing for bugs.

Good for you, Cheryl, getting so far into this game. I quit after 15 minutes. I always feel bad for the developers when this happens. So much time, so few positive reactions.

Re: Tamara the 13th - New IHOG on BigFish - 12/29/10 05:58 PM

I have just played the whole hour to give this game a chance, but I really didnt get too far at all. I just could not find the pieces and had to resort to many hints continuously, and doing this simply takes the enjoyment out of the game.

Its a great shame because this game for sure has potential. If I were the developers, I would take this game off sale and modify it, but I guess they cant do that, can they?

Once again, I think the beta testers should have picked up on this. It makes you wonder just how many people are used to do the beta testing, and whether they actually take their "job" seriously.

Rosaboobie -- all the beta testers can do is report what they see. It's up to the developers to decide whether to act on all (or any) of the reports from the testers. Whether the developers change things probably has a lot to do with how expensive (at a late stage) it is to change things.

Yes, I understand what you are saying. I would love to know how many people are used as beta testers for each game. It should be a large number, in my opinion, and if the developers dont take on board our suggestions and criticisms, then no wonder games like these are being produced.

I admire Andrews for coming here to find out exactly what WE casual gamers look for in a game, albeit we all have slightly different opinions at the end of the day.

Hi gBr's I'm about 2 hours into the game & so far I'm glad I stuck with it. that first cavern was the tough one but once you advance out into the world the objects are much better ,easier on the eyes (72yr old eyes) & I'm really enjoying this game-so far-
Just my 1 1/2 cent opinion- can't afford 2 cents worth.

Re: Tamara the 13th - New IHOG on BigFish - 12/30/10 06:26 PM

Hi, Becky!

You'd think the developers would try to make the changes suggested by the beta testers (which, to me, is the reason for beta testing) if they want to sell their game, and not wait until it's too expensive to do so. If most of the beta testers don't like a certain aspect of the game, or it contains one or more bugs, why would they think anyone else would buy it? I'm wondering what kind of feedback the developer received on that Wizard of Oz game that completely bombed because I uninstalled the demo without even finishing it.

I beta tested "Mystery Valley". It ran flawlessly on my system and I really enjoyed it, but was surprised when it was released only a week later. I also beta tested another game (the name escapes me) that wouldn't run on my system at all.

I believe Susan is referring to "L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz." I'm noticing there is now a newer version of the game where some players are saying that items aren't so difficult to see--which was one of the complaints from a lot of people when the game was first released.

Re: Tamara the 13th - New IHOG on BigFish - 12/31/10 04:46 PM

Hi, Rozanne!

No, it was "L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz". I've played some duds over the years, but that one took the cake. I think I lasted about 15 minutes of the demo before uninstalling. I then checked the BFG forum and couldn't find one person who had anything positive to say about it.

I'd love to know what feedback the developers received from the beta testers assuming, of course, they actually beta tested the game prior to its release lol !

Re: Tamara the 13th - New IHOG on BigFish - 12/31/10 07:16 PM

Hi, Rozanne!

If you did, you probably blocked it out evil !

I wouldn't have played the entire game if BFG was giving it away, and I don't think I can say that about any other game I've downloaded from their site. Maybe the developers believed people would buy it based on the title alone, but it didn't quite work out that way.

Now that will be interesting, because you will be playing the updated version which supposedly has improved matters. How much improved remains to be seen. grin12

Re: Tamara the 13th - New IHOG on BigFish - 12/31/10 08:01 PM

Hi, Rozanne!

I don't know when the updated version that Marian referred to was released because there are only a couple of posts in the BFG forum since the original July release date. I'm guessing either nobody bothered to check for an update or it didn't make that much difference lol !

I'm looking forward to your comments after you've tried the demo.

Re: Tamara the 13th - New IHOG on BigFish - 01/01/11 08:37 AM

ok now played the demo. So thats another hour of my life wasted! And a splitting headache to boot!! I actually did a lap of honour every time I DID manage to find an object. My Jack Russells now reckon I have "lost the plot". I could say a lot about this game, but I will refrain, cos I am guessing its all been said before.

Re: Tamara the 13th - New IHOG on BigFish - 01/01/11 04:10 PM

Hi, Rozanne!

I may be wrong here, but I'm guessing that the updated version didn't make a whole lot of difference snicker ?

My biggest complaint was also the fact that the objects were next to impossible to find, and it seems that aspect wasn't improved at all. I'm LOL at your "lap of honour" because I just became more frustrated with each HO scene and my German Shepherd heard many new words.

If BFG gave out "Razzie" awards, there is no doubt in my mind that "L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" would take the prize!

Re: Tamara the 13th - New IHOG on BigFish - 01/01/11 05:05 PM

And all the unwanted conversations going on in between the "scenes" - I was just click click clicking to get through them - absolutely no context to the playing of the game, just "padding" in my opinion.

But it sure entertained my Jack Russells, so every cloud has a silver lining.....

This game reeks. sick
Items impossible to discern from background,
and game itself is senseless.
Things are presented w/o any clue as to what do do.
Dufus here purchased w/a credit w/o demoing 1st.
I know....Big Mistake!
My advice, avoid like the plague taz

Re: Tamara the 13th - New IHOG on BigFish - 01/12/11 07:17 AM

I was so disappointed in this game. This game, to me, is a perfect example of being able to totally destroy some thing that had great graphics and a good story line. I so wanted to like this game. I really liked the graphics overall. The story line was intriguing. But I hated playing the game. I could not find anything in the cavern without using a hint and then just blindly clicked. The play did not flow well. It was clunky, for a better word.

This is a perfect example of developers needing to use real players for beta tests and being willing to make changes to a game that receives negative feedback. As someone earlier said, I can't believe this got good feedback in any beta tests.

Yes, its a real shame - This game could hve had so much going for it, had it been handled differently by the developers, thats for sure snicker
