To be honest, I don't even know for sure if this game would be classified as an IHOG or not - if anyone downloads this and discovers that it fits a different category, please let me know. wave

It sounds like a very unusual game. The reviews it give a little more insight into the game. Thanks Marian.

Re: The Emptiness - New Adventure Lite on Big Fish - 01/30/15 01:24 PM

Not sure this can be classified as a hidden object game to which we're normally accustomed. It plays much more like an old style point and click adventure game. Only played a few minutes of the demo. But I wouldn't recommend this as a truly casual game. It seems the "hidden object" aspect refers to finding things hidden around the "house". I would recoomend that anyone interested try the demo before buying. I for one don't care for the mechanics of the game, particularly the 360 views. Very confusing.

Re: The Emptiness - New Adventure Lite on Big Fish - 01/30/15 02:29 PM

After the demo, I marked this one 'interesting' and will likely purchase it. Using screen arrows to navigate reminds me of old school adventures. It plays more like an 'escape the room' game than the usual casual. I don't like that you cannot skip cut scenes, but so far they have been short. No HOG scenes, but you must look for letters hidden in the surroundings. Clues are found by exploration. Though not inherently scary, the developers make use of sudden images and loud noises to scare the viewer. I did startle a few times.

Hi all,
does anyone know where to find whatever it is that makes the TV go on so that I can get the "R" in ITRENUM?

I hope someone can help. Did you check the Big Fish forum for the game, just in case another player posted about this and maybe received an answer?

Re: The Emptiness - New Adventure Lite on Big Fish - 05/24/15 08:31 PM

I’m playing The Emptiness. This is a tough game. While there are no hidden object scenes, you do end up searching the house for clues and letters hidden in the surroundings. It is also a game filled with ‘scary moments’. There are flashes of images and sudden noises that will make you jump. The developers worked them into the game when you are looking closely for clue, sometimes with just a 4cm flashlight beam. The basic premise is:
Find a warded door. The spirit (FMV) then gives you a spell to open it. This spell is a word, and the letters are hidden in the rooms. There are written clues that help you find the letters, and these are hidden as well. If you don’t like searching every screen for small details, then stop right here. The hint book will keep track of the clues you find and give more detail should you need it. Once you get the whole spell, the warded door will open and you have access to more of the house. Each door also has an additional puzzle to solve, and put your thinking cap on for these. I.particularly liked the first one (the red cube maze). Interspersed though the game are opportunities to pick words and symbols that are either good or evil, depending on your mood. I’m not sure how or if this info will be used, but it is an interesting twist.
Each new door resets the scenes so new items appear in previously checked places, so there is lots of backtracking. Despite that, I would recommend the game to someone looking for a challenge, and doesn’t mind searching for often very well hidden items. I’m up to my 5th word, and I think there are 7. The game is taking longer to play now that I have more house to explore.

Well Marian I sadly finished this great game and I would say you are spot on calling it an Adv. Lite game, and I totally agree with "colpet's well written description of the game".

This game reminded me somewhat of the games I played a couple of years back called "Last Half of Darkness 1 and 2" as far as the visual aspect and the injection here and there of Scary Pop-Ups and the spooky musical background. Needless to say if the Devs. come up with another game like this I will buy it.

I just played this game and thought I'd add my two cents. I liked it at first but then it did get too hard, mostly because I got bored looking at the same stuff over and over and over. I'm sorry to say that I used quite a bit of help just so I could finish the game up and move on to something else.

I know the feeling - and I always hate when that happens to me. But sometimes you just need to get it over with. Sorry the game didn't continue to be enjoyable for you. wave

Was searching BF for a game to play, as I'm almost out of games until Thurs. Found The Emptiness and it is very different, spooky, eerie and interesting. Of course, that's only for people who like that sort of thing.

Just thought I'd tell about the game to anyone interested.

Re: The Emptiness - New Adventure Lite on Big Fish - 02/09/16 08:52 PM

I wrote above that I got bored with the game and used a lot of help just to get the game done with. Looking back, I wish I had just got out of the game and gave it a rest when I started feeling like that. Then I think I would have liked it better as it did start out good. Just, when I want to play, I want to play, so I stayed with it and ended up getting frustrated. Really not the fault of the game though.

I tried the Demo, but the creepy factor was too high for me. I'll the first to admit I'm not one of those who looks upon being scared as entertainment, especially when what is employed is "cheap shots" (sudden loud noises). Don't like that in films, either.

Re: The Emptiness - New Adventure Lite on Big Fish - 04/02/16 05:33 PM

I love Green Moon. I have had it for some months now but only recently remembered to start playing again. I had to start over. Great game that does not condescend to the player while at the same time providing clues which in retrospect are obvious. I hope the sequel holds on to all the qualities, particularly in terms of mechanics, that set the first apart from the usual casual schlock.

Re: The Emptiness - New Adventure Lite on Big Fish - 04/03/16 02:25 PM

City of Fools is a funny and quirky adventure that cubes the quid pro quo format into a series tasks for the terminally obsessed. The subway system is a rocket assisted ride in a grocery cart. Take John Waters advice and don't play with the poo.

And I can only take a little of this game at a time. That is part of its charm because I don't have to remember the story. The notebook is very thorough.
