Looking for something new

Hello to all my "Old" "Gameboomer" friends. Its been quite a while since I've been on "The Boards", been to Europe twice, going to the "Baltics" next month, got a new dog "Jaker the Snaker" (Golden Retriever) Clancy (my other Golden Retriever absolutely loves him). Last Christmas I treated myself to a new PlayStation 4, and I absolutely LOVE it. The graphics and gameplay are so much more superior to PC games. I still check with "Big Fish" and Gameboomers every now and then, and am a bit frustrated. It seems that the games are still the same old tired formats. Your (Cousin, Sister, you name it, needs your help to save a village or what have you, that has some kind of curse only YOU can help)
If "Y'all" are still having fun with this type of genre, then "God Bless You" and "Happy Gaming"
Is there anything really new "Coming Down the Pike?" Have I already missed something? I have 5 "Free Games" on Big Fish, as of now, don't know what to do with them. The PS4 games I am "Loving" are the "Uncharted Series" and "Rise of the Tomb Raider" and "The Last of Us"

It sounds like you've been keeping busy, Gordon! I haven't had much time to play many games lately; I've been rather busy. Hopefully some of our forum members will be able to give you some suggestions.

Have you played the "Adam Wolfe" game, Gordon ??

It's 2 part game from Big Fish with graphics in the "Noir Comic Book " style.

It has an engaging story and is not the "usual fare" (as you describe it)

Have you played any of the "Cadenza" series games? I think they're a change from the sort of stories you've mentioned. -Also, the "Final Cut" series.

Your point is well taken, Gordon. I have had the same reaction to the tendency of casual games to be repetitious clones with the same corny plots. I've posted some acerbic comments and parodies to that regard, but I do enjoy these little games for filling in the corners of my game-playing. Still, after playing a few in a row, I have to take a break. ha ha

It is hard to think of any casual games that would be considered truly "original," and take place in a recognizable, contemporary world instead of a hyper-colored fantasyland filled with green or lavendar smoke. The Dana Knightstone series is more adventure-like than most casuals. And there is Dire Grove: Sacred Grove, too. The Adam Wolfe suggestion already made has merit, but it has a supernatural theme.

A few other casual games that come to mind, that aren't quite as formulaic or HO-heavy as some of the mainstream casuals, are the following. Some have no HO scenes at all and nary a witch or vampire to be seen. Maybe check out a few Demos and see if these hit your sweet spot.
