Do you tend to buy games that are part of a series?

Or do you prefer entirely new games that aren't part of any series you've played before?

I used to always prefer games that were part of a favorite series, but some series don't
seem to be as good as they used to be. Some of them, like MCF, seem to have reached
their peak in the past.

Whether part of a series or a stand-alone, I don't really have a preference. It all just depends on the individual game.

Overall I agree with you about MCF, but there have been some good ones too in the last few years and the next MCF: Crossfade looks pretty promising.

I prefer games from series. But I will play a game that's not if it looks like it would be fun. wavegirl When should we expect the new MCF game? I'm looking forward to it. joy

I am not sure, TLC. But if tradition holds, an MCF fall offering is usually released right before Thanksgiving. Maybe it will be different this year; I don't know. wave

Yes. Once I find the first couple games in a series are up to snuff, I often buy later ones without even bothering to demo. Of course, I wait for sales.

I buy both series and stand alone games. Once I start a series I tend to buy all the games in the series even though I've usually not even played the first one. I have many series in my library that I've never even started to play. I find that I reach for the stand alone games more often but ideally, I will play the stand alone games between games in a series, as I can't just play a series straight through.

If I find a series that is really good, puzzles I like, a nice long game, good story, then I look out for new games in that series, and often buy with just a short play of the demo, with the stand alone games, I always play the demo right to the end to make sure it's my kind of game before I buy. Most of the time I find the series games more to my liking than the stand alone ones.

In a series, the expectation is that the same team will have worked together, leading to some consistency in style throughout. So, if you liked one, it is highly probable you will like the others.

That being said, I am currently playing all the Vermillion Watch games, and thoroughly enjoying them. They are nice and long, and all have the same format: an introductory chapter, three main chapters (that you can play in any order!) and a wrap-up. And then a Bonus chapter in the Collector's edition. The primary story-line is the basis for all six games, with some characters reappearing in different games. This makes the entire series feel like a giant continuous saga. I like that.

Copper and Sparkle - I do the same thing.

Oldbroad - you need to start playing all night and get some of those unplayed games under your belt !! lol sleep

Ha, I was thinking that when I read Tally Ho's comment, oldbroad - pretty sure you have some very late nights working on those unplayed games. grin

I don't really have a "plan" when it comes to games. Whether they are part of a series or not, if I fancy one I will buy it.
And naughtily, I don't bother with demos, either shocked

Of course if I have played two from a series and found l liked both, I am more likely to try another wink

I'm with those who say it doesn't matter to them whether or not a game is part of a series, in terms of actual purchasing of a game. However, I am more likely to download and play the Trial Game if it is in a series I have enjoyed. I don't buy any game without trying it out first. This has saved me disappointment more times than I can count. As someone else said, a good series can have some games in it that fall short. I have found that to be true in most cases. For example, I loved the Awakening series, but it had one lackluster game that made me bail out of the Demo. Same with Dark Parables, Sable Maze, Fear for Sale, LOTW, Mystery Trackers, MCF and the rest. They are excellent game series but they don't hit a home run every time, and that's OK. I think Lost Lands is the only series so far in which I loved every game in it.
