BF games that come with Adobe Flash Player

BF games that come with Adobe Flash Player - 11/30/21 04:16 AM

Recently, I bought another casual game from BF and when it almost finished downloading, I got a prompt to approve the download of Adobe Flash Player as well. I didn't want that old software installed on my PC. Of course, when I responded with "No" to the AFP download, the game download aborted. I am in the process of requesting a refund or credit toward another game. This is the first time I have encountered this and I wondered if anyone else had experienced it?

Wouldn't a better approach be to provide a Notification (before you purchase a game) if additional software will have to be downloaded in order to play it ~ so you can decide whether or not you still want to buy the game?

I've mentioned something to that affect before Reenie, that they should have a notification on the page that the game uses Flash.

I haven't had the message come up during a download but I haven't downloaded any older games recently so it may happen at some point. I wonder if the old Flash program is what would actually install or if they have some replacement program in their files.

Just curious, would you please let us know what game it is?

I definitely agree that it would be a darn good idea if players were notified in advance if Flash Player were an essential component of a game.

I have an article or two that outlines free legitimate programs that work the same way that Flash Player does that can be used as substitutes such that a person can still play these games, but I have not had the need to try one of these out as yet.

Old Broad, the game is Gothic Fiction: Dark Saga. It is kind of a shame it won't work without AFP because the little bit of preview BF gave made the game look like one I'd love to play.

Thank you Reenie. I already have that one downloaded on my Windows 7 computer but haven't attempted to play it yet. I guess I'll have to try it to see what happens.

I have the game, played it recently, and it never asked me for Flash Player.

I think Mad was playing the game not too long ago as well.

Gothic Fiction is playing fine for me with no mention of Flash.

Good to know, oldbroad. I find it very odd that Reenie got a message about Adobe Flash Player. duh

I played the game on my Win7 machine (and liked it) and no mention of Flash came up at any time. It just launched and played.

NB: I am playing on a Win10 system, and got a message ages ago that it no longer supported AFD. I was advised that it isn't a good idea to keep using software that is not being periodically updated to ward off hackers. We do our banking, investing and trust management on our home computers, so my IT husband is pretty strict about cybersafety.

Re: BF games that come with Adobe Flash Player - 12/01/21 09:09 PM

Reenie, I had uninstalled Flash from my Windows 7 computer and there was a game on disc that uses Flash that I was unable to play and from this same series a download game that I was unable to install, so I would think that Gothic Fiction would also not play for me if it uses Flash, but it is duh. So, I don't know what that means, but just saying.

oldbroad, you might think about checking to see if this game installed Flash without the prompt. It would be in Program Files x86 in the Adobe folder.

The game was installed long before I uninstalled Flash but I know that Flash is no longer on my system Drac. smile

Just an update: Got through to the folks at BF, and they are in the process of canceling the credit card charge for this game that won't launch. This is one reason why I have continued to patronize BF games for the past ten years: If there is something wrong, they will step up and fix it. That, and the great games, of course!

Hi Marian, can you link to that article describing how to get an adobe flash alternate program installed to work with old games? That sounds handy as not so long ago I tried to download/install an old bigfish game and ran into that issue where install aborts due to flash. Thanks!

Hi lakerz, here is one of the articles that I found. wave

Thank you Marian you are always so helpful! I've bookmarked that article for further research. Has anybody here tried using any of these flash alternatives on the BigFish games (or any other PC game) that require it? Just wondering if there is consensus on which one works best?

I have not tried any of them yet, lakerz. Not sure about anyone else. I suppose I would start with Lightspark, though, and see what happens. That seems to be the one that is often recommended for starters. Glad to help! This definitely requires further investigation when I have more time. sherlock

Thanks Marian I have taken note of Lightspark and will try that one first when I get around to experimenting with trying to get a BigFish game needing adobe flash to work.

Re: BF games that come with Adobe Flash Player - 01/23/22 08:08 AM

Thanks Tally Ho - I read through it, it sounds like Flashpoint is more for playing all the web based flash games from over the years. You launch the program and then pick a game from the curated list (over 30,000) of games to launch on it. Not sure if there would be a way to integrate it with any BF game (unless they are part of that curated list). In any case I've bookmarked the url for future consideration when I try and get a BF game using Flash running.
