Harry Potter: Order of Phoenix - 07/23/07 05:59 AM

Hi,
Just started this game and already stuck!
First - Having trouble with the benches in the couryard. Am supposed to levitate the bench and put with the corresponing color. The only benches in the courtyard are all the same color.

Second - only got one torch lite by the hall entrance. Can't go anywhere else to lite others.

Third - Can't find the password for the Fat Lady's portrait.

Can anyone help?

Thanks so much,
Spankie

Spankie, I'm afraid I don't know much about the HP games, but I did find this suggestion for getting the password:

"Look up the staircase to the right and you'll spot a fellow Gryffindor hanging around. Approach him, speak to him (again, with "Action"), and you'll learn the new password."

I hope that helps a little...luck

Thanks Jenny,

I forgot how to activate the talk button. Will try that -

Will still have to go back and do the bench and lite the torches, but right now, don't know where they are except the one torch by the hall entrance.

You have been a help.

Hi Spankie, be sure and check out the other Order of the Phoenix thread on this page for a lot of tips.

Re: Harry Potter: Order of Phoenix - 07/24/07 12:42 AM

Thanks Nickie,

I did check there first for my questions. Most of it I didn't understand as I am just beginning the game.

Finally did figure out the benches and there are only two torches that get lit in the courtyard.

When you first start a game, things really seem different and it takes a little bit to get started.

Thanks again -

I'll be interested to hear what you think of it after you get into it, Spankie. I think I'm going to buy it because I loved the HP game before last. Not the last one though.

Re: Harry Potter: Order of Phoenix - 07/24/07 07:18 PM

Nickie,
So far, it is much better than all the others. Am able to play with a mouse and keyboard. My only problem is controlling Harry's movements with the arrow keys on the keyboard. Need to practice that more.

Could do without Heriomne and Ron nagging about where they need to go next while I am trying to find all the points, etc.

Great game so far -
Hope that helps, will keep you posted.

Which Courtyard are you Talking about?

There is the Entrance Courtyard - The Paved Courtyard - and the
Clock Tower Courtyard.

If you are Talking about the Entrance CourtYard
to get 100% you have to do the following things:
Click to reveal..

  • Use the broom --- cast Wingardium Leviosa on it to sweep all the leaves away. This will uncover 4 Hogwart's symbols. in each corner.
  • Then move each of the 4 benches with Wingardium Leviosa on top of each symbol.
  • Cast Wingardium Leviosa on logs to light 1st torch
  • Cast Wingardium Leviosa on logs to light 2nd torch
  • Cast Incendio on each of the 4 large pillars, There are two which are in each outdoor halway on both sides of the courtyard.
  • Beat Hufflepuff Gobstones champion three times

inferno

ps --- The Fat Lady's Password --- Find some one else from Gryffyndor (thier jumpers have a red band around the waist.)
They will tell you Go down the stairs towards the Entrance hall.
Press the enter key to interact or talk when they are highlighted.

pps --- You can't lite anything until you learn the spell Incendio so leave the pillars until you learn that spell.

ppps --- You can always find out where you are and what percentage is completed by pressing the "C" key.

Re: Harry Potter: Order of Phoenix - 07/25/07 11:47 PM

Thanks inferno - it was the entrance courtyard and I finally got incendio so could lite the two pillars.

Also did get the other issues I was having done.

Didn't remember about the "C" key to find out completed percentages. Thanks -

Could you also tell me, when do I know I am at a save point in the game to save my progress/game? Sometimes, I can't sit that long and play for hours. But don't want to go back over what I did before I left the game. Not easy to remember what you did and where you went.

Thanks,
Spankie

Re: Harry Potter: Order of Phoenix - 07/26/07 12:37 AM

It's simple --- create your own. While in the game press the ESC key. Then go to Options Here you will see the following:
  • Subtitles ***** < on >
    it may also say off
  • Save ***** < on >
  • Controller Configuration

Click on the right or left arrow by the word Save and you will see that it will change to OFF.

Click on Continue

The game will then ask if you wish to accept the changes that you have made. Use your UP or DOWN Arrow keys to choose YES and then press the ENTER key.

The game will then ask if you wish to save your current game data and configuration settings. Use your UP or DOWN Arrow keys to choose YES and then press the ENTER key.

It may ask these questions again --- just do the same thing, this will take you back to the Menu Screen.

Re: Harry Potter: Order of Phoenix - 07/26/07 01:16 AM

I thought with the automatice save on, it was best?
Also have been saving the game as I go along, but, all the last HP games, you have to get to a certain point to be able to save your progress.

Does that mean if I save my game, even if I have only played for 15 minutes, it will save it to the point of where I left off?

Don't mean to sound dumb here, but just wanted to make sure. If you can save your game whenever you want and that's where you will begin again, then this truely is a great game!!

Re: Harry Potter: Order of Phoenix - 07/26/07 01:55 AM

Yes it will save at the point where you left off. However whether you keep the save feature on or off --- you will always start from either
The Gryffindor Common Room --- until you find the Room of Requirements then the game will start from there. But not to worry. Once the game starts up just check either the Marauder's Map or Press ESC amd look at the Game Info and you will see that you have not lost any of your progress.

The Automatic save is not like the previous HP games.

Re: Harry Potter: Order of Phoenix - 07/26/07 10:34 PM

Hey, that's great to know.

Could I ask another question? Am having a lot of trouble catching that snitch in the common room. Keep hitting the spacebar when the snitch comes by and slows down while standing on the table, but nothing happens!!

Any suggestions??

Thanks, Spankie lol

Sorry to bother again.....

But, does anyone know how to play chess? Read the manual, but it only tells me about how to make the moves. Since I dont' know how to play chess am not sure how to play.

Any help will be very appreciated.

Re: Harry Potter: Order of Phoenix - 07/28/07 05:35 AM

I did read all the other posts and according to the clues, you hit the action key. Well, it seems that is the spacebar on my keyboard, same as when you want to talk to someone.

The arrow keys don't work except for moving Harry around.
Am I missing something?

Here is a great Chess program for gamers who don't play chess. This is how I learned. Try downloading this free program: Winboard . Winboard is the best one I've seen. This is a free program, btw and easy to install. Here you can play against the computer. And change who is Black and White.

WHat I did was play Computer against the computer -- the Computer being White. (Harry)

When Winboard makes white's move just copy over to the Order of the Phoenix's chess game. Then when Black moves in Order of the Phoenix copy that move to Black on Winboard and see the move it makes for white and again copy it over again to Order of the Pheonix. You can do this while Alt + Tab.

After installing the Winboard program, run the game selecting the "Winboard Startup Dialog". Click on Play Against a chess engine (The default selection is fine) and click O.K. You will then be presented with a chess board. Next, under Options be sure that "flip view" is checked so that White is at the bottm. Under "mode", select "Machine = White".

Begin to copy the moves back and forth.

Gryffindor Champion --- beginner
Slytherin Champion --- intermediate
Hogwart's Champion --- Advanced

In options under controllers you can change which keys do what.

Inferno,

Thanks so much, will try your suggestions.
Was really nice of you to explain and help me out.

Haven't been able to play for a while, but when I can, will download the chess game and do as you suggested.

Inferno,

After reading a ton of posts, seem like you are helping a lot of us with this game. It's a great game and the best of all of them.

I tried the chess game download, it works! Won all three chess games and now moving forward.

Still trying to catch the snitch in the Common Room. Have moved the table between the couch and the cabinet and keep hitting the ENTER key whenever the snitch comes by real slow. Still can't catch it. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong??

Thanks,

Re: Harry Potter: Order of Phoenix - 08/22/07 12:27 AM

Hi,
What a great game. Still have lots to do, but have completed about 90% of the game.

Right now I am having trouble lighting the last torch on the suspension bridge by the pipe. I made the mistake of fixing the pipe before I lit all the torches and now can't lite the torch by the pipe.

Help - does anyone know how I can lite that torch? Can't seem to get Harry to use incendo on the torch, all he does is zero in on the pipe. Have gone back to it many times and tried everything to get him to use incendo on the torch! Really having trouble here.

Thank you for any help,
Spankie mad

Re: Harry Potter: Order of Phoenix - 08/24/07 08:18 PM

Help.....please.....

Have been trying for days now to get that last torch to lite on the suspension bridge next to the pipe. Does anyone know if it can be lit now that I have repaired the pipe first?

If I can't get it to lite, does that mean I have to start the game over?

Thanks, Spankie help

Spankie, I haven't played this, and it doesn't seem like many have that are on the forum. Perhaps you could send a personal message to Inferno, and she would know you're asking? I will send her a help message as well.

Re: Harry Potter: Order of Phoenix - 08/24/07 08:50 PM

Oh thank you Nickie....will do that.

How do I send a personal message? Don't use this that much since I try to figure out the games by myself.

Thanks,
Spankie smile

Re: Harry Potter: Order of Phoenix - 08/24/07 09:08 PM

I just sent her one, so you don't need to - if she can help, I'm sure she will.
To send a private message, click the box that says "my place" under the big red bar at the upper part of the board. Then click "My messages", then "Options" and then "Send a private message". Doing it that way you need to know who you're sending it to though!
So, the easy way, just click on the person's name (on the left hand side of the post over their avatar picture), and you will see an option to send a pm, or some people will also have an email address listed.

Re: Harry Potter: Order of Phoenix - 08/25/07 03:14 PM

I'm back with another question.
Have 93% of the game completed, am now working on completing what I didn't do before.

Am looking for the "three heads are better than one" portrait on the seventh floor. Found two different portraits and one is the "scurrilous scoundrel" portrait. I have been all over the seventh floor and can't seem to find the other portrait.

Can anyone help?

Yahoo, I found it - so don't need any help on this one. happydance

Thanks, Spankie wink

Re: Harry Potter: Order of Phoenix - 08/26/07 11:25 PM

Never mind this edited post, just finished the game!

What a great game. Not like previous HP games, much better with lots of challenges and interesting things to do and find. To bad it goes so fast but it's worth playing again.

Only two things I didn't like, were Ron and Hermione constantly reminding Harry what he needed to do next. Also they both got in the way when trying to navigate using the keypad directions keys which for me took some getting used to.

All in all, I thought it was well worth the money spent to buy it.

Thanks to all who helped me.

Hi Spankie --- Sorry I wan't around to help earlier
(I've been away)

I'm glad you were able to finish the game --- I thought that this was the best one so far. Even with its flaws (I agree with the two that you pointed out.
