Trail, thanks for mentioning Nox

Picked it up from GOG for 6 bucks and, with a few cheats at least, it’s enjoyably engrossing. Don’t think I wanna play it through as a warrior, but I went through it as a conjurer, then as a wizard, and am now partway through it again as a conjurer, which I think I favor. I’m pretty sure I tried a retail copy of this years ago, but I think it wouldn’t run right, so I needed GOG to come out with it, and the reminder from you. I’m sure some of the people here would like it if they tried it. It’s an older title that’s right in our ballpark, but it has a lot of character. There are some different mechanics and conventions, but the manual PDF can help you get familiar with those. Besides cheats if you need ‘em, there’s also video walkthroughs on YouTube if you get stuck. The music and the voice-acting are both real good. The controls are customizable. You can do interesting things like pushing water barrels on top of fire, which busts them and puts the fire out. And, of course, the premise is good, where a modern-day Joe Average gets accidentally sucked into a medieval fantasy world and has to save it from an evil sorceress in order to get back home. It’s kind of a game version of a movie idea I’ve had for a while, in which a guy who’s putting the finishing touches on a very advanced RPG gets sucked into the gameworld (he “zones into” the tavern in the starter town) and has to save it. The only edge he has is that he knows all the intricacies of the game, but it’s still quite a nail-biter.

Cool, Nox has some great reviews even from today's gamers. Good to see it holds up.

The story reminds me a little of Christopher Stasheff's Her Majesty's Wizard. One of the Wizard in Rhyme series and one of my favorites in that anti-hero style.

Mad, I’m usually okay with warriors, but, with this game, outside of maybe seeing what “The Gauntlet’s” like, it seems like you’d be askin’ for it, even with a health cheat. Between not being allowed to use a bow, and your melee weapons breaking on you, and having to chase things down to kill ‘em, and only being allowed to carry 9 cure poison potions, it’s hard to see how the ending cutscene (the worst of the 3) justifies all the frustration. But playing as the conjurer or wizard is certainly worth it, especially with the health & mana cheat, so you’re not always running away from things or running back to recharge from some of the stationary mana crystals found throughout the game. Going through it as a conjurer again, I look forward to getting more beast scrolls and his first crossbow, which are extra-damaging in this game, and, as a wizard, it’s fun or satisfying to burn up some approaching zombies or skellies with Dispel Undead, or bust a bunch of barrels and crates, then kill any rats scurrying around after that, with Earthquake, or use Teleport To Target to get past some traps or unstable flooring.

Hi Sig Segorn smile

Thanks for that input !!
However, I'm well past the time when I could cope with another try at NOX playing as any character lol

Cheers.

Okay Mad, but lemme just say that I’ve only found one way to get yourself killed with the health & mana cheat, and that is to cast Obliteration---the animation for it keeps going and, when you deactivate the cheat, it’s game over. Apparently, this wizard spell is only safe to use in their spell traps. But, as long as you don’t do that, you can take your sweet time reacting to things in the game---even crush traps and those purplish laser beams can’t hurt you---they just add to the wear-and-tear on his outfit.

Thanks for more info, Sig Segorn, but after I "threw in the towel" I passed the game on and won't be buying it again at this late stage. I'm really NOT capable of another dose of NOX lol
