Thronebreaker on GOG with mini-game clips
From the Developers,
"Thronebreaker is a single player role-playing game set in the world of The Witcher that combines narrative-driven exploration with unique puzzles and card battle mechanics. The game spins a truly regal tale of Meve, a war-veteran queen of two Northern Realms — Lyria and Rivia. Facing an imminent Nilfgaardian invasion, Meve is forced to once again enter the warpath, and set out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge."
Earlier this year, the game carried the title of Gwent:Thronebreaker, which would have permanently connected it with the popular Witcher card game of the same name. I don't know if CDPR saw the winds changing on their card game, or just decided to take this in a different direction. What I have unofficially heard is that some of the writers from Wild Hunt were working the story. It's gone from purely a card based game, to a full fledged, though smaller scale, narrative-driven RPG combined with other gaming elements including the aforementioned card battle mechanics. Possibly a new take on the old turn based combat systems or a hybrid of both? I think CDPR, wants us to know that they haven't forgotten that Witcher is still an RPG and that it can go in multiple directions. Also unofficially, I've read that they are planning on taking the franchise in a new, but familiar direction. They don't want it to go stale by simply releasing a "Witcher 4" with all of the same story elements from past games. This may be their way of easing those concepts in. Maybe we'll go further back in time, before Geralt was the White Wolf. Maybe they'll take us forward to a future time, leveraging the cross-over potential to their other games? Who knows?
