Note: to those expecting a Darkside style game. It appears that The Forgotten City is more along the lines of an Action/Adventure trending towards Adventure game. Combat is optional, so should appeal to Adventure gamers as well.

The Forgotten City is now available at the following:
-Steam
-Epic Games Store
-GOG
-Xbox One & Series digital store
-Playstation 4 & 5 digital store

From the Developers
" Before you dive in, here are some things you should know:
1. The Forgotten City was made by a core team of three hard-working devs. It may have started out as a mod for an action RPG, but like the mod, this game is in a totally different genre. It’s a mystery adventure game, which rewards thoughtful conversation, exploration, and puzzle-solving. Combat is a small – and entirely optional – part of the game. If you don’t go into this expecting a Triple-A action RPG, you’ll have a much better time!
2. We’ve taken great care to create a game world with historically authentic ancient Roman art, architecture, costumes, and customs, with the help of two extraordinary historical consultants: Dr. Philip Matyszak (who has a D.Phil from Oxford and teaches at Cambridge) and Dr. Sophie Hay (who has 20 years experience excavating the ruins of Pompeii). We hope you have fun exploring!
3. Finally, we strongly encourage you to keep playing until you reach the canon ending (Ending 4). You’ll be glad you did! :-)
4. We've polished the game as much as we can, but some bugs are inevitable on Day 1. So, if you experience any issues, please report them in the relevant discussion forum, and we'll do our best to help you! Steam users: Use Steam Discussions. GOG users: Use GOG discussions. Everyone else: Use r/theforgottencity

So, this is NOT an adventure game? I read some reviews, and they really downplay the action aspect of the game. Many actually refer to it as an "adventure" game. It looks amazing, but I've said before, I am NOT good at action sequences at all, and those have ruined several games for me. By "ruined" I mean actually PREVENTED me from completing the game(s). I am really becoming disillusioned with games these days. Even games that are specifically referred to as "adventure" are beginning to include these sequences. Why? It's literally defeating. (NOTE: I guess I should have read the original post a little better. I posted this after reading a review on Adventuregamers, and they were not very specific about the combat being optional.) If that is the case, I'll take another look at it. But, my original post mentioning the action sequences "ruining" games for me, remains. I'm STILL disappointed that so many adventure games contain quicktime, stealth, and death.

It does say that the combat is entirely optional. Here on GameBoomers if a game includes combat, optional or not, we put it in the Darkside forum. But I don't think you would have anything to worry about if you were thinking about playing it.

A lot of PC games now include console ports and I think it tends to be assumed that those who play console games (and many PC players as well) are more inclined to be interested in a game if it includes "action." This is why these sequences are included. I am not saying I think this is a good idea, but "follow the money" and the answers to many such questions are usually answered.

Thanks for the clarification, Marian. I guess I get it, but I'm still disappointed.

I have been disappointed in this trend for a long time now, so I certainly understand. I prefer my adventure games without action sequences, too.
