Nothing takes the taste out of peanut butter quite like unrequited love.
Charles M. Schulz (1922 - 2000), Charlie Brown in "Peanuts"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Heavily laden with groceries, my aunt asked a young clerk at the grocery store to accompany her to her car. Arriving there, she unlocked and opened the doors and, without thinking, sat down in the back seat to check off her list of errands.
A moment later, the perplexed clerk walked around the car to my aunt.
"Lady," he said firmly, "I don't mind helping you load your groceries, but I really gotta draw the line at driving you home.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A Sunday school teacher said to her children, 'We have been learning how powerful kings and queens were in Bible times. But, there is a Higher Power. Can anybody tell me what it is?'
One child blurted out, 'Aces!'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A guy who worked with my brother was transferred to the city where I live. My brother called me and said this guy had cerebral palsy and would need to hire some people to help him unload his van and trailer when he got there. My brother asked if I had any ideas of where his co-worker might find some day workers to help.
The Salvation Army had just had an article in the daily paper about a new program they had to get people down-and-out on their luck some day jobs. I told that to my brother and he said he`d tell the guy who was transferring.
Later that day my brother called back to say he happened to hear his co-worker, who was using a speaker phone, call the Salvation Army in my city. He had dialed the number I provided. Someone answered his call and said, "Salvation Army."
"What do you do?" asked the man.
"We save wicked men and women," came the reply.
He said, "Well, save me a wicked woman for Saturday night and please send a couple of wickedly strong guys to help me move-in to my new apartment on Friday."
I was checking out at the busy Super Market, and the cashier was having problems. The register ran out of paper, the scanner malfunctioned, and finally the cashier spilled a handful of coins.
When she totaled my order, it came to exactly $22. Trying to soothe her nerves, I said, "That's a nice round figure."
Still frazzled, she glared at me and said, "You're no bean pole yourself!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A woman was at her hairdresser' s getting her hair styled for a trip to Rome with her husband. She mentioned the trip to the hairdresser, who responded: 'Rome? Why would anyone want to go there? It's crowded and dirty. You're crazy to go to Rome. So, how are you getting there?'
We're taking Continental, ' was the reply. 'We got a great rate!'
'Continental? ' exclaimed the hairdresser. ' That's a terrible airline. Their planes are old, their flight attendants are ugly, and they're always late. So, where are you staying in Rome?'
'We'll be at this exclusive little place over on Rome's Tiber River called Teste.'
'Don't go any further I know that place. Everybody thinks its gonna be something special and exclusive, but it's really a dump, the worst hotel in the city! The rooms are small, the service is surly,and they're overpriced. So, whatcha' doing when you get there?'
'We're going to go to see the Vatican and we hope to see the Pope.
'That's rich,' laughed the hairdresser. 'You and a million other people trying to see him. He'll look the size of an ant. Boy, good luck on this lousy trip of yours. You're going to need it.'
A month later, the woman again came in for a hairdo. The hairdresser asked her about her trip to Rome.
'It was wonderful,' explained the woman, 'not only were we on time in one of Continental' s brand new planes, but it was overbooked, and they bumped us up to first class. The food and wine were wonderful, and I had a handsome 28-year-old steward who waited on me hand and foot.
'And the hotel was great! They'd just finished a $5 million remodeling job, and now it's a jewel, the finest hotel in the city. They, too, were overbooked, so they apologized and gave us their owner's suite at no extra charge!'
'Well,' muttered the hairdresser, 'that's all well and good, but I know you didn't get to see the
Pope.'
'Actually, we were quite lucky, because as we toured the Vatican, a Swiss Guard tapped me on the shoulder, and explained that the Pope likes to meet some of the visitors, and if I'd be so kind as to step into his private room and wait, the Pope would personally greet me.
'Sure enough, five minutes later, the Pope walked through the door and shook my hand! I knelt
down and he spoke a few words to me.
'Oh, really!What'd he say ?'
He said: 'Where did you get that ungodly Hairdo my child?'

Maury the shepherd sent his sheep-dog out to gather and count the flock to make sure none were missing. The dog returns and says that there are 40 sheep.
Maury: "40? I only started with 38!"
Dog: "Yeah, but you told me to round them up."

Round up.................get it? rotfl

Policeman: You cant park your car here.
Driver: Why not?
Policeman: Read that sign.
Driver: I did. it says, "Fine for parking", so I parked.

Fine for parking.... rotfl My guts are splitting.

The preacher's 5 year-old daughter noticed that her father always paused and bowed his head for a moment before starting his sermon. One day, she asked him why. 'Well, Honey,' he began, proud that his daughter was so observant of his messages. 'I'm asking the Lord to help me preach a good sermon.'
'How come He doesn't do it?' she asked.

Re: Sunday's - 08/26/12 03:09 PM

Good morning my friends!

Boy do I have a hangover... (that doesn't mean I'am hanging over you-know-what snicker). It was the wedding of my niece yesterday that did it. We started at 1 p.m. with the ceremony and then it was one great event after the other and a wonderful dinner and then partyyyyyyy. Sooooo many nice young people were invited. We were partying till the day break. woot The hangover is from drinking Champagne, Mezcal, white wine, red wine and sangria, in that order whistle
Today is the only day I really know where the headache comes from.... But it was worth it!!

I told you we had a heat wave last week? Well, it broke exactly Friday night with a huge storm and rain and thunder/lightning like crazy. We thought now the wedding will be rained off, but no! We had fair weather again exactly an hour before ceremony started. She's a lucky girl, my niece! And she was soooooo beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, enough. I wish you all a happy Sunday. Don't drink too much, it hurts woozy

Love!

Super Sunday ya'll puppy

Hubby and I are enjoying a nice, Quiet morning. Soot was finally able (after a year) to hunt down the one evil file that was keeping his computer from syncing with his Ipad/Ipod. We felt like doing the happydance He is happily sitting and surfing and sipping.

I'm happily watching Book TV. The descriptions of the sessions always sound boring, but once the folks get talking I almost always find them interesting and have questions sparked and learn something I didn't know.

Ana, I hope you have a most wonderful time at the club and that hubby goes with you. Is Merlin fully recovered?

Quest, will today be busy?

BeaSong, feel free to forward any extra tomatoes here. Home grown fresh tomatoes are a little slice of heaven and we don't get enough sun to grow them.

ShyTy, so glad to see you in the garden.

Haroula, enjoy the beach. Do you take a book down with you?

Gerry, have a great day!

Cailyn, enjoy your trip.

Venus wave

Midgy, don't you wish you could record your dreams and play them back later.

Connie, biscuit bottoms happydance

Gail, have a great day.

Joe, congrats on the department! I hope they realize you are a big part of their success.

Nan, luck

Evelyne, I'm so glad you had a great time and I hope the headache quickly diminishes.

Good morning boomies! I've been slugging through the morning and enjoying the gloom and rain. I did a Starbucks run a few hours ago and the drive through line went around three sides of a strip mall. rotfl Apparently I was not the only one that needed a jolt of caffeine to wake up.

Darlene, happy Sunday to you too!

L4L, Merlin has good days and bad. Fortunately the good ones outweigh the others. puppy
I would be in a lot of trouble if my dreams were recorded. lol
Congrats on soot getting his Ipad to sync!

Evelyne, you are too funny! I am glad the partying was worth the pain.

Nan, I hope you get to call BINGO lots! yay I'm pretty sure hubby is not going to move off his recliner.

Joe, at least if you are going to have a meeting, a breakfast meeting sounds like the way to do it.

Gail, are the girls happy to be back in school?

SpaceQ, I may be sending rain your way so enjoy the park run before it gets there.

Connie, are you safe from the storm?

Midgie, enjoy your afternoon off.

Sue, have a fun time!

Venus, have a great day!

Gerry, have a great Sunday.

Haroula, how far from the beach are you?

ShyTy, great to see you! Glad you could pull yourself away.

BeaSong, was it a good year for tomatoes? How are the goats and mom?

Okay, I think I am going to finally drag myself to the club. All this sitting is not good for me. lol

Re: Sunday's - 08/26/12 06:42 PM

Lazy Sunday Morning -yawnyawnloafloaf eat junk Ah as Ana posts -life is good. Especially when one is retired. What did retirees do befor the cmptr and play station shooters. Just give me a barrell of hot pepper chips, a keg of coffee and 5 new PS shooters = a walk through Paradise. I don't eat at the table anymore, always in front of cmptr or PS. The cats eat on the table now.

My microwave isn't working -it's the keypad that's down. I wish I knew how to replace it because it's such a waste to discard the whole thing -all the metal and plastic. Really all I use one for is to heat coffee in winter and warm torts. Remember Cheech y Chong? They warm torts right on the stove burner and I could heat coffee in a pan -Ha.

Hey all you Tampa g'boomers -cover and duck. Be careful. Keep your pets safe. Where do wild animals go during these emergencies?

Happy Sunday all

Yankee, it is true indeed. Life is good. hearts

I hope you can find a replacement microwave.

Yankee, I'm with you. I remember when you used to get appliances repaired, but these days it's usually cheaper to get a new one.

Ana, you are too sweet. I love my babies but I don't think I'd walk them in the rain.

Speaking of babies, Soot and I loaded ours up and went to our park with the little creek where we used to walk in the mornings. There was only 1 car there and it belonged to a fellow working in a nearby work shed. So we got our walk in and the dogs got to chase a ball and swim. It's so hot even Miss Seagan got into the creek...a first for her. We didn't have to do much drying off to put them in the car either as the 1/2 lap we walk them leashed back to the car did the trick.

Haroula, I can relate. I love to read and learned to read every second I could when the kids were small.

Now home with a Coke Icee and fixing to watch Grimm. Back later wave

Hey Nan, now I know what Dragon races are(your last post yesterday) We had sailboat races on the Niagara River and how elegant they were. Kinda tricky though. They had to catch the winds and proper currants too. Always wanted to sail but never did. We used to swim the river from Tonawanda to Grand Island though. Fun days!!

Re: Sunday's - 08/26/12 09:07 PM

Woo Hoo! We are having earthquakes here in Southern California. A series of many many centered near where I lived for 9 years teaching school. It's 115 miles away so no biggie for us, but I have chandeliers swinging, etc. I didn't feel it since I was running back and forth from stove to sink to fridge making home made tostadas. Yummmmm.

Looks like it might be right on the San Andreas fault line. Won't know till the news stations start reporting it.

Maybe the Los Angeles area felt them too?

Re: Sunday's - 08/26/12 10:11 PM

Another big earthquake just hit. This one I felt for sure. Everything swinging and 2 big jolts with rocking motion in between. It's listing as 5.4 for that same area the first one struck which was a 5.3 so the aftershock is bigger than the original and still in the same 2-4 mile area around my old stomping grounds.

And I thought today was going to be a slow day in Sorta's Neighborhood.

Yankee, I think sail boats are graceful too, but of course, I've never been on one.

Sorta, stay safe!

Haroula, sleep well.

We are watching the hurricane news. No one seems sure of what Ivan will do. It's not a hurricane yet. The weathermen are expecting impact her on Tues/Wed. A lot could change in that time. I expect Connie will get it a day before we do.
Posted By: Sorta Blonde

Re: Sunday's - 08/26/12 11:57 PM

Everything is OK around here. So far no reports of any damages or injuries where the epicenter is. Hundreds now of small quakes in the same area. It's all desert and not many big buildings anywhere.

Waiting for our local news at 6 my time for a real report from the scene. There was a similar incident when I lived there in 1975 January. One big shaker and so many little ones over the next few weeks it was feeling 'normal'.

Just wonder if this is a precursor to the 'big one' since the San Andreas is the huge North to South fault that goes through all of California. I might soon have ocean front property. rotfl

Re: Sunday's - 08/27/12 02:24 AM

It has been a busy afternoon and evening here. I walked the dogs almost three miles in the rain. They had a great time because the wildlife was out and about today. They love to chase anything that moves. lol

When I got back I went to the store to do some major grocery shopping and aftwer I put that away hubby and I went to Costco for some more.
That led me straight to cooking dinner and now I am in laundry land.

L4L, do you think the hurricane will affect you?

Sorta, hubby and I were wondering how they differentiate between foreshocks, an earthquake and aftershocks. duh Do they just figure that out if no more happen?

be back
Posted By: Sorta Blonde

Re: Sunday's - 08/27/12 02:37 AM

Good question Ana. Heck if I know. All they tell us is that the 'big' one is the actual earthquake, and everything after that on the same 'spot' is aftershocks. As for the Brawley quakes today, they are up to over 200 now and there is some structural damage. Not San Andreas fault though. It's the Brawley fault that I experienced in 1975. They even mentioned that series on the news. Brawley is on an area that has volcanic activity under the crust. Lots of geothermal wells that provide electricity for the town. Cheap electric. Scary that the earthquakes are involving that unstable volcanic area. Ugh.
Posted By: BrownEyedTigre

Re: Sunday's - 08/27/12 02:41 AM

But how would you know if the 200 that have been felt until now aren't just tremors before a big one. We really are at the mercy of Mother Nature, aren't we?

Re: Sunday's - 08/27/12 03:05 AM

Yup Ana, so many quakes of like 2. or 3. something are hitting all the time. There were about 2 or 3 small quakes just before the 5.7 hit. Guess the geologists figure it all out. Our San Diego local expert says we are due for a 7.8 quake sometime in the next 30 years. Quakes fascinate me but if you are near the center, they can cause massive damages. Worst part in Brawley so far is the power is out. It's 110 degrees out there and when you don't have air conditioning, it's unbearable!
