Aging Humor
Just before the funeral services, the undertaker came up to the very elderly widow and asked, 'How old was your husband?'
'98,' she replied, 'Two years older than me'
'So you're 96,' the undertaker commented.
She responded , 'Hardly worth going home, is it?

Reporter interviewing a 104-year-old woman:
'And what do you think is the best thing about being 104?' the reporter asked.
She simply replied, 'No peer pressure.'

The nice thing about being senile is you can hide your own Easter eggs.

I've sure gotten old! I've had two bypass surgeries, a hip replacement,
New knees, fought prostate cancer and diabetes
I'm half blind,
Can't hear anything quieter than a jet engine,
Take 40 different medications that
Make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts.
Have bouts with dementia ..
Have poor circulation;
Hardly feel my hands and feet anymore.
Can't remember if I'm 89 or 98.
Have lost all my friends. But, thank God,
I still have my driver's license.

I feel like my body has gotten totally out of shape,
So I got my doctor's permission to
Join a fitness club and start exercising.
I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors.
I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour. But,
By the time I got my leotards on, The class was over.

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Also, my memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Know how to prevent sagging? Just eat till the wrinkles fill out.

It's scary when you start making the same noises as your coffee maker.

These days about half the stuff in my shopping cart says, "For Fast Relief".

THE SENILITY PRAYER:
Grant me the senility to forget the people
I never liked anyway,
The good fortune to run into the ones I do, and
The eyesight to tell the difference.

English Ain't Easy

So, you think English is easy, huh? Read to the end and see if you still think so.

1. The bandage was wound around the wound.

2. The farm was used to produce produce.

3. The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.

4. We must polish the Polish furniture.

5. He could lead if he would get the lead out.

6. The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.

7. Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.

8. A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.

9. When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.

10. I did not object to the object.

11. The insurance was invalid for the invalid.

12. There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.

13. They were too close to the door to close it.

14. The buck does funny things when the does are present.

15. A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.

16. To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.

17. The wind was too strong to wind the sail.

18. Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.

19. I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.

20. How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

Let's face it - English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France . Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

You lovers of the English language might enjoy this...

There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that is 'UP'

It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP ? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP ? Why do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report ?

We call UP our friends. And we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver; we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car. At other times the little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses.. To be dressed is one thing, but to be dressed UP is special.

And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night and lock it UP.

We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP. To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4th of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions. If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more. When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP .. When the sun comes out we say it is clearing UP ...

When it rains, it wets the earth and often messes things UP.

When it doesn't rain for awhile, things dry UP.

One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP , for now my time is UP , so... it is time to shut UP!

Good morning. I have another split shift today. Bit chilly. I can't wait for spring.

Please send a few prayers for my BIL Bill. He's going through aggressive chemo to kill the cancerous masses in his abdomen. I talked with him a couple of days ago. He said he had a bad reaction to the chemo this time. They're gonna stretch his treatment out for three days. I feel so bad for him. I know the power of GB prayers. He needs a miracle and this is the place to ask for one. Thanks everyone.

I hope you all have a great Saturday. Midgie hearts

Re: Saturdiner - 03/16/13 04:50 PM

Prayers on the way for your BIL, Midge. Hope all goes better this time.

Woke up to blinking clocks! Sometime between 5:30am and 7, the electricity must have gone off. Probably someone hit a power pole nearby and kicked it off for a few seconds. Maybe more. I'll check with my neighbor who is always up at 4:30 ohhhh.

Had to go outside and use a flashlight to trick my security lights into thinking it was bright and sunny. They were ON from the power failure till 8 am when I finally was showered and dressed. Hope my bill doesn't kill me.

We have PAINT on the adjoining street now that they just redid with sidewalks, etc. At 6pm (what were they thinking?) two huge painting trucks did some nice lines to divide the entry corner. Now we wait for the repainting of the 'stop' and then the red curbs (already penciled in on them). Gonna be nice. It will stop that stupid lady from parking her car AT the corner. She's a total nutcase. Parks with hind end practically out in cross traffic, opens her STREET side door and leaves it open while she takes out 2 babies and gets them inside the house. All this time, cars coming around that corner (and there are a lot) are almost hitting her trunk or open door. Stupid stupid. Soon she will have to find another unsafe spot to park. Already one of her doors has the tell-tale crunch pattern of being hit while open. Funny except that I worry about her kids. Where are the Darwin Awards when ya need them?

Third Outdoorsie kitty tent is working, I think. Mom and daughter have taken over the NEW tent (I figured that would happen). Old gal, Spot, finally stayed in one of the old tents after I got the 'correct' kitty bed in there. They have their preferences and I have 3 different kinds/sizes. Had to steal one from my Indoorsie to please Spot.

Supposed to be a very nice weather day here. Hope you all are having Springlike weather where you are. StPats

Re: Saturdiner - 03/16/13 05:55 PM

Super Saturday all puppy

We are most definitely having spring like weather here.

Everyone is up and most of us are fed. Tonight's ribs are on and I will go make coleslaw in a bit. After dinner, or perhaps before, depending on what son and the kids do, will be game time. We are going to try out Castle Panic to see if the Per will be able to play with some help.

Boys are going home early tomorrow as son has to work early and Soot and I will be watching To Kill a Mockingbird at ASF. And that is our weekend. puppy

H'lo everybody. wave

I had one older brother come in last night, and my oldest brother came in this morning, and just left. In between we've been talking family business all day. Specifically Mom business. yes

One conclusion we came to is that we should not have to sell this place, and we're not planning on putting Mom is a nursing facility. bravo

I'm very relieved at the results of our efforts today. woot

I hope you've all had a super day so far. happydance

Re: Saturdiner - 03/17/13 03:51 AM

Talked with my BIL tonight. He's had his first chemo round. It's been very hard for him. He said he'll be going home on Tuesday to recoup from the treatment. His son and daughter will take turns staying overnight with him until he's well enough to stay alone. I'm so glad he called me. I've been so worried about him. My sister, his wife, is still in rehab for her addiction. That's another story.
Thanks for your prayers.

Night all.

Ahhh Midgie, that is so hard. I'm glad he can count on you for support.

Soot and son and Per and I played Castle Panic. A really cute co-operative game that has some strategy and forward thinking to it. We lost to the monsters twice, but that is ok. We are still getting our feet under us.

It's off to bed for us. Sweet dreams all sleep
