Near Saxton (Polperro). It still has the same effect on me as the first time I went there.

What a lovely vacation. My first thought was "a locale from a Jonathan Boakes game" when I saw the photo. smile

I just got back from vacation in South Dakota, Lead (pronounced leed) Deadwood, Hill City, Rapid City, Carson. Got lots of photos of bison, deer, scenery on mountain roads. Whatched Wild Bill Hicock get murdered. He dies 4 times a day M-Sa during the summer months. No murders on Sunday. The real James "Wild Bill" Hicock was shot in the back of the head in a saloon in Deadwood, South Dakota on August 2, 1876. The original saloon was burned down in a fire that took out a large portion of the most violent part of the old town. It was rebuilt in a new location so the new spot is where they have the reenactment. I also so one gun fight in a street. The real fight took place in another saloon but they fired 10 rounds of blackpowder guns which would be really smokey in doors so they did reenactment for that one outside. In this particular fight the two drunken gamblers fired 5 shots each (because they didn't load all 6 chambers in their revolvers back then, so they wouldn't shoot themselves in the leg by accident). and missed each other completely. Its the same acting troop each time so one of these bad shots was same man who plays Wild Bill Hickock.

BTW Calamity Jane who looked like a man, dressed like a man, drank like a man, could out shoot most men and cursed like a dozen sailors was not Wild Bill's lover though apparently she wanted to be as she requested that she be buried beside him when she died. She was broke when she died but the town's richest man paid to have her last wish granted so that she would not end up in potters field. The reason he paid for her funeral, she nursed his son back to health during an epidemic in the town. Wild Bill was married to the woman of his dreams, he had to wait for her first husband to die.

In Rapid City I got to shoot a flintlock rifle (modern replica not an antique). Which was fun even though it failed to go bang every other time. The range officer said it was the humidity those old black powder guns the American revolution was fought with suck up water and then don't function properly. These things only fire one round then it takes at least two minutes to reload.

My sister, parents and i saw Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin brothers in concert in Deadwood. I saw them years ago in Omaha. Larry is 71. Still sings good though not as good as when he was 41.

Obviously an enjoyable place for you Jarkeld as you've gone there 3 years in a row.

Guybrush, sounds like you also had quite an enjoyable time.

There is something about cornwall that really appeals to me. I am planning to go there again next year with my girlfriend, who couldn't come with me this year.

@Guybrush:
That kind of vacation appeals to me because of the living history.
The black powder weapons as well. Got to shoot a trapdoor rifle a while back.
Not only is moisture an issue with flintlocks, but they need to be cleaned a lot as the residue can eat away the inside of the barrel and affect accuracy.
