Absurd Request
Request from a client who worked very closely in designing his website with me, yet still apparently thinks it was delivered from the sky by some omniscient web-stork.
Client: On our site, I’d like to add a map of all our locations nationwide.
Me: Ok, can you send me a database of all the addresses?
Client: I don’t have that. You’ll have to check the website for a list of addresses.
Me: There’s nothing like that on the website.
Client: Quick answer… you didn’t even check.
Me: I don’t need to check because I made the website, and I know nothing like that is on there.
Client: Ok, then see if you can contact the webmaster, they will know.
Me: I AM the webmaster… remember last year, when we made this site together, using information you provided?
Client: So you have no idea and you’re not even going to try to find out. Well, that’s very disappointing.
Me: How do you expect me to know the locations of your business when you, the boss, do not?
Client: That isn’t my job.

I’d been working on a few illustrations for a client for a clothing line of graphic tees. The theme of the line was iconic cities of our state. We began discussing an idea for a notorious tourist-trap beach town, and I submitted a concept to him.
Me: Here’s my idea for the beach shirt.
Client: I’m not really a fan… I think I want this one to be nautically themed. Like old illustrations and symbols of fishing and sailing.
Me: Okay… this city isn’t really known for that, but I’ll do my best.
I submit a new design to him per his specifications.
Client: I don’t like this at all. It doesn’t reflect the city very well.

"The CEO tried to view the new website with the built-in browser in his Tesla and it didn’t display correctly. Please fix for all Teslas."

I’m working with a client who says they’ve “done design” and act like they know more about it than I do. Today, while looking at a design for a pamphlet:
Client: This logo on the back – I know it’s our partner’s logo but can we change the color? It doesn’t fit with our pamphlet.

Client: Hey, we looked up the name we were going to use and a lot of other tech companies already have that name. Just use this fake name in all the presentation materials until we decide on our new actual name.
There is so much wrong with this I don’t even know where to start.

I’m currently working with a regular client who sends me work to ghostwrite five days a week. Occasionally, he is a bit unusual with his requests.
Client: You didn’t put in the keywords for these two articles
Me: Yes, they’re slightly altered for grammar and spelling but they’re there.
Client: They’re altered because you did not highlight them and now the editor changed them. Change them back and highlight them.
Me: I’m happy to do that but they’ll be grammatically incorrect again.
Client: That’s fine. Thanks.
FYI, I absolutely must include the keywords as they’re sent to me, regardless of the way they’re sent, and the editor will often alter them afterwards. A well-written and edited article was suddenly filled with three separate instances of grammatical errors.

I click the link. It takes me to the page, which is working and functional.
Me: Yes, this link is both available and active.
Client: Great, thanks for checking that.
Me internally: Did you seriously just SEND ME AN EMAIL to ask me to click a link for you?

I’m a senior copywriter in an in-house marketing department.
Client: We need you to write website pages for these suites of programs.
Me: OK, can I get some guidance here so we don’t run into problems later? Can I see a design so I know what copy is needed and the general structure? Are there specific features of the program the brand team wants to mention? Etc.
Client: You’re a senior copywriter, I expect you to know this stuff.

Me: Great! What services are you looking for?
Client: Before we talk about any of that, how much will your services cost?

I shot a “tour” video of a hotel designed to show potential guests the facilities, accommodation etc. The star of the video was the CEO.
Once the filming and editing where complete, she asked me to do a few things in “post”:
Client: Could you make the bed in the background? It looks messy. Also, I really wish I hadn’t worn that cardigan. Can you take it off and just have my dress?

It's FRIDAY!!!
Good thing too cause Thursday was long and boring. We hit 98 degrees and I didn't feel like doing much of anything.
Friday is supposed to be a few degrees cooler.
I'd better break out the long johns.
Other than that.....Friday will most likely be much too much the same as Thursday.
Maybe I'll enroll in that Barbecuing With Road Kill class over at the casino.
Sounds like a good to kill time.
