Pray for Nebraska (and Iowa) - 03/17/19 07:02 PM

I don't know how much news coverage there has been but Nebraska has been devastated by massive flooding after a record braking snowfall this winter. Its been estimated that one third of the state has been effected. I originally only had 1 confirmed death to report but its now doubled. The first was a Nebraska farmer who drowned trying to save others. the second is a Nebraska man who was actually killed by flooding in Iowa, which has similar problems. While the death tool is small many are now homeless as their towns no longer exist. More rivers run through Nebraska than any other sate and apparenlty they have all flooded at some point. The Niobrara for example has carved two new channels, washing away the town in the process.

Nebraska is a beef producing state and its possible hundreds of cattle may have been lost. Its calving season which makes the potential for lose of income worse. I've seen a photo of cattle stuck on what is now an island. One post on Facebook said people in one town, not flooded found cattle roaming their streets and have put the calves in their garrages until the ranchers can claim them.

A Houston man posted on Facebook that Nebraska sent food and bottled water after Houston'slast hurricane and its Houstons turn "to bless Nebraska". He's got a truck trying to get if filled wiht food and water to drive to Nebraska/

I'm okay none of my family (most of us are in Lincoln) are in the flooded areas. My sister, brother-in-law, nephew and niece were snowed in for few days by what is hopefully that last blizzard of the season (they are close to Colorado so they get their weather) But do pray for them as well as my brother-in-law Weston's father Rod has died. It was not a surprised he has been ill for someone time and was in hospice. My sister Jenni was very close to her father-in-law Rod and she's hurting too.

What terrible things Nature can do. Sending prayer for everyone and everything. I'm originally from New York (Long Island and upstate) and remember hurricanes and snowstorms) but nothing like this season that you are experiencing. Seems they get worse every year. Hope you are safe and everyone gets the help they need soon. hug

Lincoln's mayor ordered 25% reduction in residential use of fresh water and 50% for buisiness due to drop of water pressure and electrical issues at water treatment plant. No outdoor use of fresh water, no watering laws, no washing your car yourself, commercial car washes ordered to shot down, no washing of garbage trucks or other commercial vehicles, restaurants must only serve water on request (many do that anyway) and use disposable dishes. Residents are to restrict baths, showers and doing laundry.

Good to see you and yours are OK.

There's some flooding around our area as well. The farms near the low land marshes are pretty much washed out, but the overall damage in the state is no where as severe as what's going on in Nebraska. Never a good thing to see people put out of their homes and farmers lose land and livestock.

Re: Pray for Nebraska (and Iowa) - 03/23/19 05:58 PM

Thank you for your prayers and postive thoughts.

Flooding has affected Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas. Three-fourths of Nebraska counties declared a state of emergency, one-half Iowa counties have done the same.

The death tole in Nebraksa is now 3, plus the one Nebraska man killed in Iowa, so 4.

I don't have the states for the other states but the finical lose to Nebraska alone is estimated to be $1.4 billon dollars, including $85 million in damage to homes and businesses, $449 million in damage to infrastructure, $400 million in cattle losses and $440 million in crop loses.

Vice President Pence visited Nebraska to see some of the damage. President Trump has already declared a natural disaster in Nebraska so Nebraska may receive federal aide.
