Sorta Blonde - 08/14/21 07:37 PM

I haven't seen her posting on here for quite a while and I sure loved her stories. Is she still around? I miss her!

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/14/21 07:45 PM

The last time she logged in here was January 17, 2020. Maybe someone else will know more.

I can think of at least one other frequent poster of the last couple of years who just disappeared, and I always wish I knew what happened to them.

She's fine, just keeping busy. I speak to her occasionally and last time was not too long ago.

I believe Ana is friends with Sorta Blonde on Face Book so she may know something. (Sparkle also if that's who you might be referring to Marian.)

Ha, ha. Ana was posting while I was typing.

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/14/21 08:59 PM

No, I wasn't thinking of Sparkle (I still contact her from time to time). I was thinking in particular of Sanford (Sandy). He was last logged in on June 17, 2019. But there are others too, of course.

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/14/21 09:22 PM

I am with you Marian regarding Sanford, we used to email each other from time to time keeping up to date on Adv. games and other news, but like you said, since June 2019 he never answered my emails, so one wonders what happened to him, so sad because he was a really great person.

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/14/21 10:10 PM

I've tried to message Sparkle a couple of times with no answer, so I was hoping she was OK too. I kinda miss Sorta's stories! And now that you say something, I haven't seen Sanford around for quite awhile either.

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/14/21 10:38 PM

Sparkle is fine also, she is on social media daily and we still communicate.

Sandy is 90 years old hearts

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/14/21 11:11 PM

Oh yes, I have not forgotten about Sanford at all, nor Kjos! I mentioned Sparkle because she has gone missing more recently from the board.
Posted By: Marian

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/14/21 11:38 PM

I know Sandy is 90, but I was still hoping he would be here for some time to come. We have had many amazing people on this board who were/are over 80. yes

And yes, Kjos (Richard) was getting older, too. As are we all!

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/15/21 12:02 AM

kjos is 86 years old also. It is always sad when people just stop posting and we don't know why.

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/15/21 02:02 AM

I've thought that I need to let my step-daughter know how to contact all my on-line friends if something happens to me! My husband mentioned how hard the isolation last fall, winter and spring was on him because he couldn't talk to anyone. He said at least I talked with all my friends on-line every day. I hadn't thought about it, but he was right! Everyone here, at Mystery Manor, Facebook and everywhere else helped so much.

Yes. I understand that there are often good reasons that people stop posting - I just wish that whenever possible they would let us know before they leave. It's when people that have been here for years just up and disappear forever that it really bothers me. And there are quite a few posters that fall into this category.

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/15/21 02:51 AM

I agree! We lost quite a bit to social media. I still see many because we connected on Social Media before they left, but there are many more I just lost contact with.

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/15/21 03:20 AM

I always wonder where people went, too. One person in particular I had been missing for a long time. I finally searched her out a couple of years ago only to find an obituary, which made me very sad. We were sort of RPG sisters in that we always seemed to play the same type of character in the same games.

I'm glad to hear that all the members above are still with us.

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/15/21 12:58 PM

hagatha, now that you brought it up, I didn't want to be morbid, but I did look up kjos and sanford since I have their real names and there have not been any notices. I have sadly found others that did pass but no one has inquired so I don't publicly announce.

One person that always baffled me in his disappearance is Retired at Last. I've never been able to find out what happened to him. We chatted on and off the board frequently and then he just stopped.

Venus is another one who comes to mind.

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/15/21 02:15 PM

venus is ok, she is active on Facebook. she just disappeared here one day with no word. She was a staff member here and gave no notice she was quitting either.

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/15/21 03:15 PM

I also miss nickie and inferno, and traveler.

8dognight has also been gone a long time now.

Those are just a few names. There are many others.

Ana, I also look at obituaries at times in search of possible information. And I remember Retired at last - and also that one day he just disappeared.

I have wondered about her too. Her last post was February 2017 in the Hints forum.

Inferno is doing great. I need to think about the others mentioned. I may know a couple answers.

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/15/21 07:31 PM

I remember and have noticed the absence of some of the mentioned people also, such as traveler and 8dognight.

I'm glad to hear that you didn't find any obits on Sandy and Kjos but I actually thought there might be one for Venus. Do you communicate with her Ana? That was very strange how she just stopped posting like that and being a Reviewer, why didn't she let you know something? I remember how you kept posting like, where was she and if she was okay.

As far as you not posting about some of them because nobody asked, I think some of us may fear the answer.

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/15/21 07:54 PM

oldbroad, venus never answered a single message I've sent her. She just quit. I was worried for a long time something bad happened and then came to the awkward conclusion that she just quit without notice. She is active occasionally on FB and that is the only reason I know she's ok. We are "friends" there, but zero communication.

Well, I'll ask about this one. Since the Diner closed, gymcandy1 hasn't posted. Is he doing okay as far as you know?

Yes, Joe is ok. smile

Was this a poster on GameBoomers? If so, do you mind my asking who it was?

I miss quite a few people from the older days when we all used to talk about the same RPG that we would all be playing in the Darkside forum.

Which makes me think of someone else who disappeared: oldman (John). He played adventure games as well as RPGs. Last posted in 2016. He had been a member for 16 years.

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/15/21 11:09 PM

I was wondering about MacDee, we used too stay in touch by email, until the emails went unanswered. Does any one know how HanksDog is ? Just a few I can remember, memory is not as good as it used to be.
Posted By: Marian

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/15/21 11:55 PM

Connie, there is a thread here about Dee from 2017 that you can read here. You will need to scroll up to the top of the thread so that you can read it from the beginning. You will also see some old-time members that we don't see anymore who posted in that thread.

I also remember Hanksdog and have also wondered what happened to him.

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/16/21 01:06 AM

I know hanksdog was fine for many years but I lost his contact info so I can't check up. It's on one of my old hard drives or backups.

Don't check the obits for me. I'm still alive and kicking. Living it up in Florida since I retired.

Marian, it was Rowan.

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/17/21 09:47 PM

Thanks so much for letting me know. When you described her, I was thinking maybe you were referring to Rowan. She too was Canadian. I once sent Rowan a boxed copy of Gothic because she was unable to find one locally. She was a lovely woman. I have definitely missed her absence too, and wondered how she was doing. It is good to have some closure and she will be fondly remembered.

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/17/21 10:09 PM

Yes. Rowan and I sometimes played the same game at the same time.

Good to know that Joe (gymcandy1) is okay: was there any publishable story behind his rather sudden departure? smile
Posted By: BrownEyedTigre

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/19/21 12:13 PM

hagatha, sorry to hear of Rowans passing. So very sad.

Lex, nothing publishable or concrete. but I have a 99.9% certainty I know what it is.

Re: Sorta Blonde - 08/20/21 03:38 PM

I'm so glad to see this thread. Was thinking of Sorta the other day. Don't remember any posting after her 'reportings' of things happening with the neighbor.

I could be wrong, but my guess is that some families don't know or care to be concerned about informing social media friends when a loved one can no longer post. Happened to me with a close friend of mine who died of brain cancer a few years ago. She kept in contact with her support group thru Facebook, and, last I knew, no one in her family posted of her death on the account. I didn't feel it was my place to do it.
