Can you not find the game folder? There should be an Adventure Company folder in your program files folders (C:\Program Files\The Adventure Company. Is there not an Agatha Christie Evil Under The Sun folder inside the TAC folder? If there is, then look through the sub-folders for the savegame folder.

I don't know about this game, but some games will create a folder in "My Documents" for the saves, when the regular game folder is located in Program Files.

I do have an AC folder but there is no saved games in any of the folders. I also checked in my documents and I have nothing. Anymore suggestions?

They have to be there somewhere. Sometimes saves do not have the file extension .sav. I would look for a folder with the same number of files of the same type as the number of saves you have. Or you could try to go save a game, then go back and look for a file that was created at the same time you made the save. Or perhaps someone that has the game will chime in with a specific location for you.

I hope someone does chime in with a specific location because I have tried what you suggested.
Thank you for your help

Try this

Go to Start --> Select Search --> Advanced Search -->

Under Location ---> select "Local Hard drive" --> Type the name of the file you are looking for in the search box in the top right-hand corner of the window --> see below.

type the folowing: slot0.ac3

press the enter key.

This should bring you to the folder where this type of saved file is.

You can also type *.ac3

Thanks Inferno

I tried slot0.ac3 and it produced nothing. I put in *.ac3 and all the files were audio. Any other suggestions.
Thanks you so much for responding

In XP my safe files were in a folder called
C:\Program Files\The Adventure Company\Evil Under the Sun\Saved.Games\

If you installed your game somewhere other than the default, the saves may show up in a subfolder of the folder where you installed the game. It's also possible that Vista put your saves in your User's Documents folder.

Thanks Jenny100
I checked all my document folders and there is no games in there at all or any saves. When I installed the game I used whatever it suggested.
Thanks

Did you look for it in C:\Program Files\The Adventure Company\Evil Under the Sun\Saved.Games\

Also, Vista has it's own "Games" folder. You might check to see if anything is in there. You can find it in what passes for the Start Menu in Vista.

Yes --- and in what folder were they?

That file ending are the audio files for the saved games. In XP
The folder name is located in
C:\Program Files\The Adventure Company\Evil Under the Sun\Evil Under the Sun\Saved.Games

Here's a similar topic about the witcher and saved games.

http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?s=...#entry589137354

Apparently Vista likes to save games in this location

C:\Users\<user>\Documents\The Witcher\

where user = your username and where the witcher is exchanged for whatever game you're currently playing - this instance 'evil under the sun'.

Try looking for your saves in the same folder(s).

Re: Can not find saved games in Vista - 01/16/08 04:09 PM

ok --- how about this,

Open your game and play for a few seconds, then save the game. Then close out of the game. Now, go to the advanced search area again and look for any files created for today. In windows Xp the saved game files have an extention of both .bmp and .ac3. See you you can locate the folders for anything like that.

Tried it and still got the same results in my search. I made it past my glitch in the game so no rush now on an answer but if anyone knows how to get to game saves in Vista I still would like to know how to do it for future reference.
Thanks again to everyone's help and input.

Is Vista set to index your entire C: drive, including system files and folders?

Re: Can not find saved games in Vista - 01/16/08 11:16 PM

This thread is fascinating. I don't have Vista, so i can't offer any help. Perhaps someone who does and also has that game can provide the answer. Whatever, I am absolutely curious of where that OS hid the darn files. If a search can't turn up .bmp or .ac0 something is seriously amiss

If Vista is set to index only once a week, it will not find any files made after that time.
If Vista is putting the saves in a place that is excluded from being indexed, it will not find any files in that place.

Ok I found this on a hard forum. It seems vista does not index every type of file on your hard drive. You can tweak it to include all files, only certain ones or however you wish. But by default it only indexes certain types. I did not see what the default list is. I suppose you could search tweak sites to find out. It seems XP by default indexes all files. So there is a way to search for all through the advance search tab on vista.

Here is a quote from hard forum, it may help those of you who want to search on vista.

Posted by Ihaveworms on hardforums

"I love how fast you can search on Vista with the indexing, it is now faster to type in the file you are looking for rather than browse into multiple folders. However, I have found that I do not have all my files indexed and sometimes have to go to advance search and enable search for unindexed files."

I looked on xp and this choice is not available on advanced search. But according to what I read all files are indexed so this option would not be needed.

Re: Can not find saved games in Vista - 01/17/08 02:15 AM

I looked at a computer with Vista Ultimate.

Try Start --> Search

Over on the right, near the top but not the very top of the Search window, click the ^ next to Advanced Search.

Make sure All is selected next to Show Only:

For Location, choose Local hard drives (or you can narrow it down to OS (C:) if you only have one partition)

You can narrow down results by date and size if you want, but shouldn't really be necessary if you have exact file names to search for, like slot0.ac3

Put a check in the box to include non-indexed, hidden, and system files

Type in what to search for near the top of the window.
Then see if you find anything.

In the bar above all the files, not the one where you can show things according to name and stuff like that, but above that. It says Organize and Views and that, the last one says Compatibility Files, Click on that. They decided to hide where some of the files go apparently.. I think it only appears in folders though not in all areas will you see it.

Re: Can not find saved games in Vista - 01/17/08 08:16 PM

Jenny100
That did it. My files came up. I can not open them because they show as audio files. When I try to open them my Nero opens up and then it gives an error that the audio cannot be played. I am almost positive these are the files I was looking for because the amount of files is the same as the number of saves I have. So I am guessing to put a save game that I get form someone else that I could just rename it after my last file and put it there.'
Why does it have to be so complicated?LOL
Thank you so much to everyone and hopefully others will benefit from this posting also.

Re: Can not find saved games in Vista - 01/26/08 06:56 PM

Hello!

I came across this thread via a google search (I'm a developer looking at this issue right now), but I think I can help.

Windows Vista does not allow games to write to the Program Files directory anymore. (for "security" reasons, you know) wink Any older game (XP and before) that did write to this folder has all game save files etc automatically redirected.

You should find these under
C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\<either local or roaming, try both>\Virtual Store\Program Files\<game name>

Yeah, real easy to find.

Newer Vista games "should" be now writing to C:\Users\<your name>\Saved Games, but as far as I can tell, very few do, putting their saved games in a whole number of different locations.

Hope this helps,
Patrick

Hi Midnight Synergy,

Thanks for stopping by and giving us the benefit of your experience.
Vista sure finds some weird places to put saves.

For Sherlock I can only find the jpg file?
Posted By: Jenny100

Re: Can not find saved games in Vista - 01/28/08 04:15 AM

For Sherlock, the save information is embedded in the jpg file.
At least that's how it was with Frogwares' earlier games.

Hi
Just looked for my Saved Games and found them as follows....
Start...Computer...Click "C" Drive....Click "Users"..Click your name...Open the folder you see labeled "Saved Games"...Bingo found my Saved Games under the various Game titles....
Am using Vista Home Premium.
Hope this will help

"Walt" City of Lincoln UK....

Just done another check and found that it only showed One Game Title Save, this was an old game that I started......Have checked to see where the Save Games were held for The Longest Journey, and found that they were embeded in the Funcom Folder but could only be read from within the Program etc that produced them......not a lot of help there.
