I am trying to install this game under win 7 but I keep getting not enough disc sapce and I have 400 g free.
what path do I need to install to?
do I need to install in compatibility mode? If so, what?

Sorry for all the questions, but umtil I can get it to install I can't apply the patch to play... smile

Older games don't know how to interpret that much free space correctly -

Peruse Jenny's response in the thread below:
Re: BLAIR WITCH Volume 3

Quote:
Inferno used to use an old program called Philip which temporarily fills your drive (as much as you need it to) so you can play the games.

I got it to install under win 95, but the graphics are full of colored pixels. I have the patch mentioned above, but it says files not found even though the cd is in the player. I am going ti try a couple of other things.... I have win7 professional and will try with the VPC XP.
I will let you know if I have success.

Edit: I got the patch to work and install in Win7, but parts are still heavily pixalated. Any ideas?

Black Dahlia is a 12 year old game from 1998, so it's not going to have the same resolution as modern games and will look pixelated. It will also tend to look worse on an LCD monitor than an old-fashioned CRT unless you play it windowed in VPC at its native resolution (which I think is 640x480).

Check the screenshots at ***Mobygames*** to see if what you're seeing is worse than normal.

Thanks for the reply Jenny.

My screen doesn't look like that. Parts of it are very clear and then there are flashing, psychadelic small squares.

I am going to uninstall it and try one more time tomorrow.

I gave it a shot because of the respnses in this thread saying it runs great in Win 7 with the patch that is an installer and fixes things for high end, newer computers.

It's not supposed to look "psychedelic."
Can you post a screenshot of what you're seeing?

You might try redownloading the patch.

Here's an old thread about the patch --> ***link***

I'm not sure if that means you're using Win 95 Compatibility mode or whether you're using Virtual PC with Windows 95 installed inside it. Virtual PC + real Windows 95 would probably work better than Compatibility mode for the original installer. But if you're using either Virtual PC or Compatibility mode you probably won't want the Installer patch.

the first time I installed it was compatibility mode Win 95 in Win 7 and it was terrible.

The second time I was not using Virtual PC.. I installed it in straight Windows 7. You use the no cd patcher to install and it goes through the discs.

I will try that again and if that doesn't work will try Virtual PC. Windows professional installs Win XP to Virtual PC but I haven't used it yet.

I will get back to you and send a screen shot if it gives me the psychedelic pixels.

Thanks for giving me ideas to try.

kate,

did you ever get rid of the video problem with the coloured
blocks over the screen.

don't worry solved it, run pc on one core & the blocks are gone. I am running under win 7 64, with no compability only run as adminsitrator. If you set it for 95 or 98 at the startup screen the mouse will be not respond or very very slow & also get mouse trails over screen.
the installation exe file needs to be set with compatability but after install remove it.

A fast way to run on one core is msconfig & then click on boot, advanced settings & then click on core 1. reboot & play.

I've tried the no-cd patch with a WinXP SP3 system and while some things are better, it is crucial to reduce hardware audio acceleration by two steps and not use any compatibility settings.
