I have a Toshiba L305D laptop running Vista. The sound quit working. I hear the Windows pings when I change things, but no sound from youtube.
I checked, the sound isn't muted.
I'm stumpped on this one. I hope its not a non-repairable hardware falure.

If it were hardware, you wouldn't hear the Windows pings.
Check the volume settings for individual sounds

Is the speaker control in the YouTube player muted (or set to its lowest value)?
If you can hear Windows sounds, it doesn't sound like a hardware issue.
Here's a link that describes what to look for with sound issues -
Why can't I hear the audio when I'm watching a video?

Yup, it was muted. Problem solved, I think one of my cats jumped on the keyboard and hit the killer key combination.
Thanks to all.
