Anyone have a suggestion for a laptop (with ATI or Nvidia graphics) for games? Usually Adventure games but sometimes an Action/adventure if able to play(bad hands so try to get a game that has 'cheat codes" !! )-

I'm not a laptop gamer (except for casual games) and my laptop is about 3 years old now anyway.

Maybe someone who is playing adventure and action/adventure games on a current model laptop can tell you what they're using.

Otherwise, the important thing to look at is the video card -- make sure it has discrete video memory and that the graphics are reasonably fast. Both Nvidia and ATI make great cards, but they also make slow cards that aren't any good for gaming (but are good for battery life) so you have to check the model.

I think there are simialr threads in this section if you wished to look those up.
I only use laptops myself and the best thing I can recommend to do is figure out your comfort level on the service you will potentially need after the sale.
Are you comfortable with dealing with offshore persons over the phone with diagnosis of any issues or would you prefer to deal with a service department based more locally.
What are your expectations on the various components - are you looking for value or top end components?
That might narrow down some suggestions.

I have found that I prefer the custom built laptops to the ones offered by any of the big companies. Look up Malibal gaming laptops as they have a range of models and prices. I have a couple of them now and can say I have had no issues at all despite anything I throw at them. I cannot say the same for the Dell, HP laptops my family has owned over time. I also prefer to talk with someone who does not need to go down a list of things to check off before handing you off to a second level person or another person because of a shift change.

I hope this helps some, happy hunting!

The actual limiting factor is cost - how much are you willing to spend?

Inland is correct that cost is the ultimate desicion but it would not be difficult to spend the same amount of money on a Dell or Alienware and get [blip] service as you would on a custom built laptop and have a better overall experience. That is why I reply to these type of inquiries with other considerations that may not be considered during and after the warranty is out.
In the end it all factors into the cost.

Hi. I have a Gateway I bought from Best Buy and the only problems (other than being older and warrenty expired) have been what I did (I tinker). The only thing I would add is get the biggest screen size you can afford and check it for desktop replacement type laptop. Otherwise build your own or brand name is what you are comfortable with.
