Radeon HD 3800 series crashes - 08/28/11 12:50 PM

Hello!
Hope this is the right topic for this post.
I recently updated my graphic card drivers. From this point on i experienced crashes even my pc begun to restart. I think it's because of overheating cause even when i'm not playing anything the GPU temp is above 70 degrees Celsius. Can you please help me? I don't know much about these staff so any help is wellcome

Thank you

Hi Volkana,

I'd suggest rolling back your drivers to the version you had before which was problem-free.

Check out THIS Glitches thread which covers the same issue, with an explanation on how to roll back. luck

Definitely roll the drivers back - 70 degrees Celsius is way too hot for that card. If it continues to overheat, make sure the GPU fan is working.

Download and run GPU-Z from the site below. You'll see the fan speed on the sensor tab.

The GPU-Z shows me that the fan is working at 40%. It also shows 72 degrees temperature. I decided to update the card drivers cause it's had been almost a year since my last update. I read somewhere that this particular card works better with Catalyst 9.3. Now i'm using 11.7. Could that might be the case?

It may be related to the drivers. I was able to locate a couple of similar threads that indicated there was a registry patch to address heating. If that setting was removed by the latest drivers, it could definitely cause problems.

Roll the drivers back and see if the issue corrects itself.

Ok i tried to roll the drivers back but the option was not active so i uninstalled the new ones and i reinstalled the ones i had saved on my hard drive last time i update the card hoping there were the old ones. The thing is i can not remember which version i had. now i have catalyst 10.10 but i can find it anywhere to open it. Anyway the temperature remains at the same levels as before. Any other suggestions? i admit that all this time even though the temp is at 70-74 degrees i didn't experienced any crash. I guess the temp was even higher when the crashes have happened. Is there a setting i can do?
Thanks for all your help kissy

You should be able to find what you're looking for at AMD's site -

Well hello again. My pc crashed last week and the windows could not start. That's why i couldn't answer to you earlier. Now my PC is fixed (i think). I took out the graphic card and i cleaned the fan and the space around it as much as i could (took aut a coat of dust with tweesers lol). There was a lot of dust in there and i couldn't see it without removing it from the motherboard). After a good dusting and a format now my temp is 44 degrees in idle mode. We will see while playing a game if the temp will rise. A big thanks to all of you for your precious time. Always helpfull

Lots and lots of kisses kissy

It sounds like the dust was to blame for your computer heating up.

I'm glad to hear it's working now.

If you google 'dirty computers', there are videos showing how disgusting some peoples' computers are. I recently had a similar problem to you but after a good clean out with an air duster my problem was solved. The worse area was a grill on my motherboard, I also needed tweezers to get to it.
