Problem installing A New Beginning

I am trying to install this game, I have a window with choices to install- Start menu shortcuts, Desktop shortcut and Game Data, the problem is that the Game Data choice is greyed out.
I have the installation window but the progression bar does not go beyond around 10%.
I have checked the files on the disc and there is only a game folder containing: Characters, scenes and videos.
Have I got a bad disc?? Thanks for any help...

How long did you wait for the game to install ?
It may be that it is a long install and it will take a while. Just a guess on my part.

The disc was spinning for at least 15 minutes. The progress bar didn't go above 10% and then I had the window saying that the game has been installed successfully and to 'run game'.
The only item that was actually installed was the desktop short cut. Checked the disc and there is no game data on there. Also checked the installation folder in program files and its empty!!

Tried it three times now and on my daughter's laptop with the same result-pants!! wanted to play this one...

Progress bars can lie. They may go from 0% to 100% instead of showing actual progress. So I wouldn't go by the progress bar. Also some games take over an hour to install, especially if they are decompressing files before installing them. And if you have an antivirus running, it may be scanning every single file the game is trying to install before allowing it to install anything.

If you want to know if your disc is bad you can try manually copying the files on the disc to a folder on the hard drive. If it can't copy all the files, the disc is bad.

Hi Jenny, I copying the files to my hard drive, clicked on Set Up and had the same result. Greyed out Game Data files.
When it installs either from the disc or hard drive, back, next and cancel are greyed out. I'm sure that cancel is always available when installing games. After around 10% the progress bar jumps to the end and the window appears-game successfully installed...
When I click on the desktop icon nothing happens, if I click on the same icon on the hard drive, two text documents appear very briefly 'stderr' and stdout' both are 0KB.

The purpose of copying to your hard drive is to find out if your computer can read the files on the hard drive. In this case running the install from the files on the hard drive probably wouldn't work.


Do you have an antivirus or antimalware program running in the background? Antivirus may block files from installing without telling you they're being blocked.

those are both C++ files. It sounds like the game is coded using C++. But you should never see those files when you're starting a game. You definitely have an incomplete install. If the problem isn't an antivirus or other anti-malware program running in the background, then you may have a disc with bad files. Even though the disc is readable, the files could be bad.

Thanks Jenny, I have sent the game back and the suppliers are going to test it and either send a new copy or refund me.

That's probably the best you can do for now.
Hope they can send you a disc that works for you.
