Nehrim, anybody?

Nehrim, anybody? - 10/12/11 10:24 PM

Hi! I have been trying to install Nehrim for two days. I have the latest patch on Oblivion and put the game NOT in the Program files. The game will load well, go thru into and then an error message written in German at the top and English at the bottom appears with a black diamond over almost all of the script. I do not have any idea what is wrong. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. I loved Oblivion and this game looks very promising - any suggestions?

Help will be much appreciated! crazy

Can't help much without that error message! I'm sure the mods will whisk you down to the Glitches forum for help. If you can get the wording of that error message, it will help them down there a lot. Even if it's in German, it can be taken into a translator to see what it says.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/61406140/Nehrim-Walkthrough

has good information on installing and starting Nehrim. Also you should carefully select the options.

P.S. Have you installed the Nehrim patch?

Yes, I did. I applied the patch after everything else.

Thank you

You have not by some chance installed the GOY edition of the game have you?

There is an English support forum at:

http://www.sureai.de/forum/viewforum.php?f=87

However, registration is in the German language so you may have to do a bit of guessing.

It would be most helpful if you posted the error message here.

Yes, I DID use the GOY edition of Oblivion. What does that change??

TIA

You do not install the same Oblivion patch. You want only Oblivion with only the Oblivion patch. The error message would be helpful.

Re: Nehrim, anybody? - 10/13/11 11:05 PM

I'm not sure I understand. I applied the patch Oblivion_v1.2.0416English

It is a Game of the Year edition. If it is necessary to apply a different patch, do you know how it would be named or where to find it?

Thank you!

Re: Nehrim, anybody? - 10/14/11 12:15 AM

Okay. I installed the game WITHOUT any Oblivion patch and it loads well, but just after the into and you start moving around with the torch in the dark, the graphics seem to be in trouble. There are shafts of hard light streaking through the picture and I can tell they don't belong there.

This game ALMOST works! Any suggestions?

Re: Nehrim, anybody? - 10/14/11 02:00 AM

You misunderstood. Install only Oblivion and then install the Oblivion patch. Install Nehrim and then install the Nehrim patch. If you install GOY, you are not supposed to install the Oblivion patch, and that messes up Nehrim. If you install GOY and the oblivion patch, you have a mess anyhow. If GOY will not allow you to install only Oblivion, then you may not be able to resolve the issue.

Unfortunately, the DVD does not give an option and installs Shivering Isles and Knights. I will look for an older used copy of Oblivion online.

Thank you for all your help and patience!

I also had GOY. I bought a used copy of Oblivion on Amazon.

I have been playing Nehrim for a while now, in fact I am playing it for the 3rd time. I have Oblivion GOTY installed, no patch, and it is playing perfectly. The black diamond over an error notice means that you forgot to check the NehrinData.esp in the "data file" after the installation and before starting to play. I just found this info in the English Nehrim forum. By the way there is a Wiki Nehrim page now.
Shivering Isle is installed and no problem. This game freezes often though, so save, save, save is a must.

I'm curious if the game freezes on everyone, or whether it's a symptom of using the GOTY edition (which some people can't get to work at all).

Re: Nehrim, anybody? - 10/16/11 12:05 AM

I have installed Oblivion only, and three-quarters of the way through the game I have had only one freeze.

Re: Nehrim, anybody? - 10/16/11 01:17 AM

P.S. I mean that I installed stand-alone Oblivion AND the Oblivion patch.

Re: Nehrim, anybody? - 10/16/11 03:19 AM

I have played Oblivion a few times with a lot game "freeze" but never thought it might be due to the GOTY, so I find it normal to have Nehrim do the same. Quicksaving every few minutes did not bother me as the game reload very fast. But Jenny, you might be right and it is not to everybody's taste to reload so often!!!But those 2 games are so good that I did not mind.

Yahoo! I got a used copy of Oblivion (alone) and installed it and so forth and Nehrim is working! Looks like another good game and I loved Oblivion and played it to pieces.

Thank you all so much for your help. I appreciate Gameboomers so much! happydance

Nehrim is a very good game. I thought it was better than Oblivion.

Settle in Atheen. Nehrim is not a bit of an expansion. It is a very long game, longer than Oblivion.

The long trek thru the mine was very dark. I adjusted the gamma to it's full potential, but it was still dicey at times. So good to get OUT IN THE SUNSHINE, but then back to the mines. Hopefully, at some point there will be freedom to range about as in Oblivion? I enjoyed the variety of scenery, ruins, etc., in Oblivion.

You will wear out 10 pairs of shoes wandering around Nehrim.
