Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island - 01/31/12 02:58 AM

Hi there - installed the above game on my PC - Windows 7. (also installed the DirectX which came with the game)
It seemed to install ok but then when I go to play I get this error message saying main.exe has stopped working.
Anyone know what I am doing wrong??
Thanks for help in advance!!

Have you tried compatibility mode?
The Windows 7 and games thread reports:
Quote:
Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island Becky and Venus had no problems on 64-bit, but misslilo has exhausted all options trying to get the game to work with no luck.

Without knowing the specs of any of their computers, I can't say whether you have the same problem as misslilo. But the system requirements do say you need a video card with 256 MB of discrete VRAM.

Hi Ness-
There's a forum thread over at Adventure Gamers site that might be helpful-

Re: Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island - 02/04/12 03:52 PM

You can find your graphics card using dxdiag:

Click the Start button in the lower left of your screen

Type
dxdiag
in the Start Search box and either use the Enter key or click the dxdiag application that the Start Search finds.

When the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag) appears, choose the Displat tab.

The Name: of your card and chipset will appear on the left and information about your drivers on the right.

Hi Ness-

If you change the config.exe file like it suggested in the forum, I think you need to go back to the first tab (Hauptmenu), then hit Einstellungen speichem, which saves your settings. Also make sure your resolution is set right in the grafik tab. You may want to play with the art der einstellung setting also. Good luck

Hoping someone can help me. I've had all the same problems mentioned here. Finally got the game to launch with alot of fiddling about. The credits run and the opening cutscene (sometimes tho not always!) But as soon as the game proper starts the display becomes what I can only descibe as like looking into infinite mirrors. I have checked my graphics card and it is abit old (June 09) I checked for updates but can't find any. Has anyone else had this problem? And more impotantly can I fix it and play the game?

What graphics card or chip do you have?

Thanks Draclvr,
I have copied this from my DXDiag file. Hope it makes sense to you. I have checked on the Intel website for updates but none where available.
I'm not particularly tech minded so was quite proud of myself for managing to get this far.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop running on Win 7 Home Premium 64bit SP1.

The specs say you have this for a video chip.

Intel GMA 4500MHD

I'm going to be gone all day, so hopefully Jenny or Inland can help you.

Re: Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island - 02/15/12 03:20 PM

The game may be having issues with the discrete memory on your IGP - it requires 128MB (minimum) and you've only got 32.

Re: Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island - 02/16/12 08:27 AM

Hmmmm! Whatever that means!
Is there anything I can do about it or am I stuck with it?

Re: Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island - 02/16/12 02:09 PM

You'd have to buy a new video card -- and possibly also a new power supply -- and have them installed in the computer. Right now all you have is the Intel graphics chipset built into the motherboard. You don't have a real video card.

Re: Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island - 02/16/12 03:36 PM

And since you have a laptop, you are stuck with what you have with no way to upgrade.

Re: Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island - 02/17/12 08:40 PM

Thanx for all the info guys. Found the perfect solution in the end. Borrowed my son's brand new laptop...payback time for 2 years of him using mine! Tho I have to say even then I had probs with stuttering in the cutscenes. I'll have to check on tech specs more closely in future. I would never have thought of using a newer PC without your feedback so thanks again

Re: Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island - 02/17/12 09:07 PM

New doesn't necessarily mean the laptop is good for gaming. There's a possibility your son's new laptop doesn't have a good enough video chip either. At least you got it working though!

He has an Xbox which he uses for his gaming. GPOVI is typical of the sort of games I play and it's the first time I've encountered this problem with my little laptop. Hopefully it will be the last! Thanks for your support. happydance

Unfortunately, if you play new games, it probably won't be the last time. The things we don't do to keep playing our games!
