Dracula Origin - 10/23/13 08:30 PM

Ah, me, here I am again.
I have Dracula Origin on disk, 3 of them to be exact.
Now, I have played this game several times before and had no problem with it.
But now, I install the game and when I reach New Game and click on it, the screen goes black.
Task Master tells me the game is running but you couldn't prove it by me.
I thought maybe Physx needed updating, though I don't know why the one already installed wouldn't work, so I went to Nvida and they told me that the Physx I had installed was 'newer' than the one they offer.
Huh?
So, once again, I'm here asking for help.
Please? grin

Remember this thread? Your solution last time is on page 4.

Dracula Origin problem

I hope something there helps. wave

Marian,

You're an ace but I can't make head nor tails of that.
It's been too long, I guess.
I checked with Physx and I have the latest driver.
If that means anything.
I did run across something that might help someone else called a Physx Legacy Driver for games made before 2007 but Origin came out in 2008.
I do not have the latest Nvidia driver for my i460, though, so I'm going to install that and see what happens.
Ugh. It takes forever to install this game but I'll see.
I'm rapidly being converted to downloading games. grin

Edit: Haven't installed the game 'again' yet.
I thought to go see if the Tages driver was current.
Fine, the one on the Tages download page is 5.5.72.
The one I have installed is 5.5.9.2.
Wouldn't that be newer?
I am so confused.

Just a guess, but I would think that older drivers would be better to run an older game. duh

You can try to update Nvidia PhysX from official website. Here are the links:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.13.0725-driver.html
http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.13.0604-legacy-driver.html

This should help :-)

Olga,
Thank you but PhysX isn't the problem.
I've tried everything I can think of and I'm just about ready to ditch the disks and 'hope' that a download from Frogwares will work.
I'm thinking about that one.
Not sure I want to spend the bucks to find out.

I was late getting back to answer because some jerks tried to steal my *17 year old* Jeep Cherokee, damaged the door lock and really did a number on the steering column and the starter.
Guess who's sitting here now waiting for it to be fixed?
The not so funny thing is, the exact same thing happened two years ago in the exact same place, in front of my apartment.
And as I did two years ago, I saw it happening and ran out the door screaming, "What the hell do you think you're doing?"
Not terribly bright, eh? grin

One thing I will say, Allstate is the Best!

If you have a PhysX driver that is "too new," the game won't work.

Traveler, I think you need a shotgun or a big ugly dog.

Or perhaps BOTH!

Believe me, two years from now if they stay on schedule, I'll be waiting for these car thieves with a pot of boiling water.
The police can't arrest me for that. grin

Just to add my experience with the same problem, same game on Windows 7 64 bit and an AMD Radeon HD 5730 card. I uninstalled the game and the PhysX software (used Revo Uninstaller). Reinstalled the game and selected new game and it seems to be off and running.
