Samuel,
"This is not a 32 bit application" should not relate to WinXP but rather to the CPU installed in your computer. At least, that is what that message ought to mean.

Now as to the "earlier version", you will have to post details about that version. Check the installation instructions to see if your computer meets the requirements of the game.
Presumably, since you own the older version, at one time you did play it. Was it on your current computer? Have you made any changes to your operating system since playing that version?

short version:
Try turning off SSAO and focus effect in the game options.

The game uses Unity game engine, and current versions of Unity aren't compatible with XP. So even if the game originally used a version of Unity that was compatible with XP, it's quite possible that current versions of Unity don't, and after the game was updated it was no longer compatible with XP. GOG should change their listing not to include XP.

It sounds like your video card doesn't meet the actual (not the listed) requirements.

The game's listed system requirements are way below what's actually needed to play it. The game is known for poor performance, as described in this Steam thread, where even people with top-of-the-line video cards had lag and other graphics-related problems.

You could try what's suggested here

Even though he's specifically talking about the books in the library, maybe turning off SSAO and focus effect in the game options would get you past the Myst book.

Here's a description of what SSAO is

dear people,i think,i found the problem, gog claims that this game, works from
xp,and up,but i went to steam, they sell the very same game, but they also list
system requirements,the 1st one is named,"minimum",the 2nd is "recomended"
under the minimum requirements, they list the very same as GOG,but if you look
also under the,"recomended requirements",winxp is not listed,it starts with
win 7,and up but no xp,you may ask me what i played all the years till now
the answer is simple,i played the plain,(real myst),wich i downloded from GOG
its a very nice game,i never had a problem with it,but in the beginning of
2014,real myst masterpiece edition came out,i bought it from GOG,but never play
it,because i had the plain real myst, but now i decided to try it,and now even the plain real myst game,is no longer available from GOG,why who knows,i thank you for trying to help me,if you can come up with other options, how to make
(real myst masterpiece edition),WORK,i thank you all

Re: real myst masterpiece HELP - 06/24/18 08:02 PM

Is there a reason why you have to play it using XP?
RealMyst Masterpiece was never made with XP in mind, and I don't believe there are any video cards with drivers for XP that play the game smoothly and in a satisfactory way, without a lot of hitching, jerking, and lag.

The original RealMyst (year 2000) played far more smoothly, but GOG announced they were pulling it on June 18, 2018 after the summer sale.
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/real_m...ow_active/page1

Quote:
Real Myst will be leaving the GOG.com catalog at the end of the Summer Sale (18th of June). Until then, we’ve added a discount of 70% off the game.

Cyan Worlds feel Real Myst does not accurately represent the vision of the game, with the Masterpiece Edition being the superior version. With this in mind, the decision to remove Real Myst was made.

We’re sad to see it leave, but be sure not to Myst this opportunity to add Real Myst to your GOG.com library.

https://www.gog.com/game/real_myst

For those who already own the game, it will remain in your library.

So if you bought the original RealMyst before, you should be able to download it and play it on XP.

For several reasons I disagree with their claim that the "Masterpiece" Edition is superior. The "Masterpiece" version has terrible performance, is more limited in what computers it can run on, lacks features of the original fish tank area downstairs in the Stoneship Age, generally has worse colors and unwanted glare, etc. Not to mention that the Unity game engine used for the "Masterpiece" edition sends telemetry information back to the mother ship, and there is no way to turn this off short of pulling the plug on your Internet connection.

I think that samuel is still using a Windows XP computer, period.

Then samuel should log into his GOG account, download the original RealMyst from his game library, and forget about running "RealMyst Masterpiece" for the time being. Maybe in 10 years the game will run acceptably on an affordable computer, but not any time soon.

"RealMyst Masterpiece" won't run well (if it runs at all) with any computer that shipped with XP. Even if you build a computer yourself, with the most modern, high end $$$ parts that work with XP, at best you'll get it to run with hiccups and lag.

You notice the only person who said the game ran well at
https://steamcommunity.com/app/244430/discussions/0/359547436745827602/
had "Dual 780's with a Overclocked Intel Core i7 4930K Hex-Core (4.4GHz-4.8GHz)."

How many and people do you know have not one, but two high end video cards and a processor that runs between 4.4ghz and 4.8ghz? Consider that to be the "Recommended" specs.

Re: real myst masterpiece HELP - 07/16/18 04:54 PM

VRAM is short for Video RAM.
Whether 2gb is enough depends on the game.
