Gold and Glory: The Road to El Dorado runs slowly under Windows 8 and Windows 10 - 06/29/18 03:12 PM

Hello
I have a problem. When i launched game Gold and Glory: The Road to El Dorado movies and menu works perfect. But when i launched New Game gameplay is very slowly (like 10 fps). My configurations:
Desktop:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 2,66 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
GPU: Gainward NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT
OS: Windows 8.1 x64
MB: Gigabyte EG45-DS2H
Laptop Acer Aspire E1-522:
CPU: AMD A4-5000
RAM: 4 GB
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 8330
OS: Windows 10 x64
I tried ddraw fix:
https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/579-windows-881-ddraw-fps-fix/
But it's not help. Any ideas?
I have a Polish version of this game.

Have you tried the game using Compatibility Mode?
Try the information on this page if you haven't already
https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/set-compatibility-mode-windows-10

The slowdown symptoms sound similar to what happens when playing a game (like the original unpatched Syberia) on a computer with hyperthreading or multiple cores when the game can't handle them. So maybe restricting the game to a single processor would help. I'm not sure if Compatibility Mode does this automatically. If not, there are some instructions for locking programs to a single processor here
https://www.windowscentral.com/assign-specific-processor-cores-apps-windows-10
Scroll down a bit for the instructions.

We have older descriptions of three separate methods to lock a game to a single processor at
http://www.gameboomers.com/Members/legacygameshyperthreading.htm
These methods probably also work with Windows 10, but were written back around 2002 when Intel first introduced hyperthreading processors. The list of affected games at the top of that page is not complete.

I'm tried launch game with compatibility mode win98 but not help. Launch game with only 1 core? I will check it right away.
OK. So the game default run with only 1 Core so this is a bad trail.

The game box lists Windows 95/98/ME but try with XP compatibility anyway.
The checkbox for "disable display scaling on high DPI settings" can also help with some games.

I'm not really sure how to run this one on modern Windows.
pcgamingwiki says it has "unresolved issues" with 3D models being invisible (maybe that's what the ddraw fix is for?)
https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Gold_and_Glory:_The_Road_to_El_Dorado
but WineHQ says the game runs in wine on Linux
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=2564

I don't have Windows 10 so can't test the game on it.

The game might work inside VMware Player, since the box only mentions a 2D graphics card as a minimum requirement ("8mb 2D Graphics Card capable of 640x480 and 32-bit Color").

XP compatibility and option "disable display scalling on high DPI settings" it's not help.
Yeah i have seen on article PCGamingWiki but i don't have a graphics problem.
I used DDraw fix because in the past i have a problem with other games with ddraw (slowdowns). But the DDraw fix it's not help in the game.
Do you have a Windows 8?

I'm not having any luck getting it working properly in Windows 8.1 .
It may start, but it's not stable.

I'm not the best at getting old Windows 95/98 games working on Windows 7 and later.
If I'm having problems, I choose the lazy way out and run the old game on my Windows 98 computer.

But the "old computer solution" doesn't help people who don't have one.
