saves won'tgo away - 01/09/19 12:14 PM

Using win 10. I've tried deleting some of my witcher saves from documents and it appears to work till I go back into witcher and it tries to sync my saves. It always says too many, but when I pull file explorer back up the saves I deleted are back.I was able to delete them before. Any ideas? think

Sorry, I've been painting all day! I just opened up my Witcher game and I have approximately 40 saves there. Are you deleting the saved games from the Witcher menu? Or just deleting from Documents?

And are you using "Cloud Saves"?
Both Steam and GOG Galaxy have Cloud Saves.

There are forum threads at GOG where people are having trouble with the Cloud Saves. Maybe some of the tips will help.

Here is a forum thread from Steam

Obviously managing Cloud Saves doesn't always work they way it's supposed to or there wouldn't be so many people with problems.

Re: saves won'tgo away - 01/29/19 07:39 PM

Thanks Jenny. I did as suggested and deleted MANY Save files from Windows Explorer (while Witcher was running) and then did the same deletions from the Witcher menu. Then I closed both and reopened them The saves I deleted are gone. However the laptop I bought is gone too. Lots of problems and I decided to return it while still in my 30 days for a replacement. Now I found out they are no longer selling this laptop and will refund my money. On my next purchase is there a checklist of things to look for in a new purchase? I remember you said to make a system restore before I started changing things in it. I also remember another tech telling me I should have checked the hdd for errors before using it. think

Most important with a laptop is the video card. Make sure it's good enough for the next few years you intend to use the laptop.

You should probably go for 16 GB RAM, or at least 12 GB. Right now you could get by with 8 GB, but for the next few years 8 GB probably won't be enough for everything.

The video card is the main thing to watch out for though.
Intel graphics is not well supported in games.
Look for ATI/AMD or nVidia and check the model number of the card and look it up to make sure it's powerful enough to run your games.

I hate to hear that laptop didn't work out! And all of the deals I linked you too are no longer valid. But given your budget, you had to make some compromises. Go back and look at that thread just to get some idea of the specs you should be looking for in your price range.

EDIT: Just got this email from Nvidia in case you want to break the bank! The new RTX video card gaming laptops are being released in February.

Oh Draclvr, if only... However, I'm considering the Asus 504gm from Amazon. That will be all the bank breaking I can hope to handle. What do you think of it?

Edit: Going into the hospital for a procedure next Wednesday and hope I can take this laptop with me. Once again, "Hoping" to be released within a couple days.

Link? I'm not finding that one at Amazon in your price range before of $900 - $1,000.

This one seems reasonable,(Tracer-100). Does it meet your spec. requirements?

Re: saves won't go away - 01/30/19 04:20 PM

There is one in there that might meet SharonB's requirements with a 512 GB SSD. The Tracer 400, although it's a bit out of the price range she was indicating before.

I have never heard of this brand? Do you know anything about it, Geo?

Re: saves won't go away - 01/30/19 07:19 PM

Cyberpower has mixed ratings, while that can be said about pretty much any laptop PC producer, the differential between their on-site reviews/testimonials and other reports seems to be rather broad.

Acer has produced some decent mid-range gaming laptops for the last couple of years - Example: Acer Predator Helios Laoptop

HP also has some decently reviewed options - Example: HP Omen

While ASUS sometimes gets dinged for their customer service turnaround times, I've been using their motherboards in my gaming towers for years and currently have an ASUS Q53 that's performed well for the last couple years. Not my main gaming PC (I build those for myself), but get's a consistent amount of use.

Re: saves won't go away - 01/30/19 08:30 PM

I think the HP Omen was one that I originally linked SharonB to back in December. The main problem was her budget and getting the most "bang for the buck." Some like the Helios only have a 256 GB SSD which is really small for gaming. The Omen also has a very small 128 GB SSD, but at least has a 1 TB HDD for storage. I can't remember which laptop she ended up with - an ASUS maybe. It had a similar setup.

Re: saves won't go away - 01/30/19 09:00 PM

True, dropping another SSD into the open drive bay on the Helios would kick-it up over the $1K mark. HP has been pumping out some solid laptops for quite few years too.

Re: saves won't go away - 01/31/19 12:46 AM

Draclvr: I don't use laptops but I do use Cyberpower's desktops. I like them because I can pick and customize every part on any of their computers. For example I usually upgrade the power supply a little and change the case. I have had good luck with them. I am still using my Cyberpower that came with windows-7. Except for a couple of fans that died through the years it has been very good.

Re: saves won't go away - 01/31/19 02:10 AM

That's good to know! I know at least one or two people who have had CyberPower build desktops for them and they have also been satisfied.

Re: saves won't go away - 01/31/19 02:32 AM

I am fairly sure they are a lot bigger than you think.

Bigger? What's bigger?

Re: saves won't go away - 01/31/19 10:06 AM

The company. They are now in all your stores as a major brand.

Re: saves won't go away - 01/31/19 04:11 PM

Oh, you mean Cyberpower itself. Yes, they are definitely a major brand now. I see Cyberpower everywhere.

Re: saves won't go away - 02/01/19 12:18 AM

Well, after much indecision, I came up with this computer with customization. I think this is a good compromize between what I want and what I can do.

PLEASE tell me this is a good system. I understand that any purchase is a risk, but I've taken quite a lot of time to make this choice. I would rather have bought from Amazon with their 2-day delivery and I have a gift card there I was planning to use toward this purchase. However, I couldn't come up with a system at this price which has all the features I want.

I'm anxious to hear your thoughts and I've got my trigger finger on the order button. Please, Hurry!

There are also weekly specials at the very top of the page.

Re: saves won't go away - 02/01/19 04:44 AM

It helped a LOT that you were able to up your budget to over $1,300! In December you were trying to stay at $900 and no more than $1,000. That's where some compromises had to be made.

I very much like the M2. SSD @ 1 TB. ADATA isn't the best brand in the world, but as far as I know they are pretty reliable. I would also have the same concern about generic RAM, so the upgrade to the GSkill Ripjaws was a good idea. I use GSkill for all my builds. Other than saying the motherboard has an Intel chipset, I'm not sure what brand it is.

All in all, with your increase in budget, I'd say you have pushed all the right buttons!

Re: saves won't go away - 02/01/19 09:24 PM

Nice system, I'm jealous grin

You're pretty much future proofed with that system, should keep you going for a good long time. I wouldn't worry about ADATA, they're in the top 5 NAND manufacturers now, and being that the drive is one of the new gen M.2's made for the portable market it's should serve it's purpose well. thumbsup

That's what I was thinking about that M.2 also. They don't rate up there with the Evo's, but I read good things about them.
