Dragon Age Origins GOG Ultimate Version

Dragon Age Origins GOG Ultimate Version - 02/16/19 10:54 PM

Because of the size of this download from GOG I decided to use their Galaxy Programme, which I've never used before.
[Hating "clients" like this as I do).
But even though I have fast broadband, the download and installation still took an absolutely awe inspiring time !! woozy

Finally it was all done, and even though I might not be starting to play the game seriously right now because I currently have too many other games already in play, I was interested to see what it looked like so I went ahead and hit the "launch" button ....

Only to be confronted with the error message that "PhysXLoader.dll" was missing from my computer rolleyes

The on-line advice I found to sort this out (including posts at GOG Community Support) offers rather conflicting information so I'm hoping someone here will please be able to help.
[Not being very techie myself and a scaredy pants to boot help]

Thanks in advance for any assistance yes

Try one of these solutions Mad - https://steamcommunity.com/app/47810/discussions/0/558755530211735224/?l=polish

These types of issues are exactly why I completely abandoned PC gaming and moved back to consoles - and I'm enjoying all the classic retro games once again (without the Oops... Microsoft no longer supports this version, and neither do we - but hey, we got your money, thanks). That and the fact that I haven't seen a good adventure game offered for years.

PhysX is a pain.
It's always been a pain.
And it's been around since 2004 according to Wikipedia.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PhysX

When a game uses it, the game always seems to want a specific version, and won't take a newer or older one.

Usually the problem is solved by figuring out which version of PhysX the game is using and installing that. You'll probably want to uninstall whatever version of PhysX you had previously.

Here's a thread at GOG about what different people did when they got the "PhysXLoader.dll" error

Inland, nice to hear from you.
Have you tried new games like Hero-U or Mage's Initiation?

Unfortunately not Jenny - I don't do Steam or any other type of online registration or limited activation games anymore. I've run into too many issues with them, as well as others, and that's why I called it quits. I don't have these issues with consoles/handhelds or the old classic PC games.

Nice to hear from you as well, how have you been? Say hi to Mag and Drac, I miss you folks.

BTW - anyone hear from SirDave lately, miss that guy.

I don't do Steam either, but those two games I mentioned are also at GOG.
Mage's Initiation, at least, is made with AGS.

No I haven't seen any posts from SirDave lately.
He has posted here in the past, but never as often as he used to at JA.

Hi Jenny100 and InlandAZ smile
Thank you both very much for responding – and - because you did - I’m happy to say my Dragon Age Origins now launches and appears to play well !! bravo

I used your link, InlandAZ and scrolled down to the “Fix My Game” box.
Then once inside that, I went down to the heading “PhysX Error” and downloaded and installed the two Nvidia items, using the links provided.
And that did the trick.

I am SO grateful for the help, thank you thumbsup
And I can recommend the two DRM Free GOG Games Jenny100 mentions. I downloaded both and burned them to disk and they are really good dance

One Last Question (for now grin) please.

Being the combat wimp that I am - even though I really enjoy lots of RPG's - I always look to see if I can find some form of God Mode for when the fighting might get beyond my capabilities eek

And I found this for Dragon Age origins :

To enable invincibility in Dragon Age Origins for Windows PC.
1. Right-click on the shortcut to the game.
2. Add -enabledeveloperconsole to end of the Target field under the Shortcut Properties.
3. In the game, press ~ to bring up the console window.
4. Type " runscript pc_immortal " and press Enter.

My question is ....
If I try this, do I need to include the hyphen at the beginning of "-enabledeveloperconsole"

Thanks.

Yes. That's usually how it works with cheats.

If the cheat doesn't work, it might not be for your version of the game.

Thanks very much, Jenny100 yes

Fingers crossed then that it will work if/when I need to try it lol

Re: Dragon Age Origins GOG Ultimate Version - 02/20/19 09:02 PM

Well, it was quite a bit more complicated than I at first thought to enable God Mode but after watching lots on You Tube and reading lots on the Internet I did finally manage it thumbsup

[ Oh, the woes of being a non-techie blush ]

Of course, after that success, I'm very tempted to now have a go at the game .... even though I should most definitely finish one of my other "currents" first !! lol

I have this game in my Purchase History from GOG but haven't tackled it yet. smile

Re: Dragon Age Origins GOG Ultimate Version - 02/21/19 09:08 PM

I will probably keep playing "snippets" for now, oldbroad, because the game has a good journal so I shouldn't forget where I'm "at" smile

And I'm sure you will like the game, Marian.
I've only played short sessions so far, myself, but I like very much what I have played thumbsup

Re: Dragon Age Origins GOG Ultimate Version - 02/28/19 07:23 PM

I used Gog Galaxy - for the first time ever - to download Dragon Age Ultimate because of the size of the download.
But I've noticed that it's included in programmes that "run on the start-up" of my computer.

Is this necessary for me to play the game ??

[(I am playing bits of the game now and then]

Or can I safely stop it ??

Thanks.

Re: Dragon Age Origins GOG Ultimate Version - 02/28/19 08:18 PM

Not that this would necessarily get it out of the startup menu, but have you opened up GOG Galaxy and clicked on "gog com" in the top-left corner (above your games list) --> Settings -> uncheck "Run GOG Galaxy at Windows startup."

Re: Dragon Age Origins GOG Ultimate Version - 02/28/19 08:19 PM

Mad, I am not absolutely certain of this answer but my Galaxy is not always running so I think I stopped it from that somehow. But, when I do go to open it, I often have to wait while it updates or something (just so you are aware).

Re: Dragon Age Origins GOG Ultimate Version - 02/28/19 08:50 PM

Hi - And thank you, Marian (and oldbroad) smile

So I don't need to have Galaxy running in the background all the time - for the game to work??

Does un-ticking "Run GOG Galaxy at Windows startup" mean Galaxy will only run when I actually play the game then ??
Posted By: Draclvr

Re: Dragon Age Origins GOG Ultimate Version - 02/28/19 10:14 PM

It won't even run then, Mad. You do not need GOG Galaxy to play your games unless you choose to. Some people like to play and stay in contact with other people playing it. I never use it unless I'm downloading something.
