Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/13/19 06:59 PM

Hi SOLO.

I installed Chrome, registered at Kartridge and was eventually able to download the game.

Then I launched it.

However ....

Having saved and quit after playing for a few minutes, how do I re-launch it next time I want to play ??

And .... Whilst the game is in play there is a whole section of "text stats." constantly running in the top right hand corner of the screen.
How do I get rid of it ??

Hoping for help, please.

Who is SOLO?!!

If the game was an actual download and not an on-line game, just find the game file, open it and find the game launcher icon... send it to your desktop. Got NO idea about the game stats thing if there are no in game options to get rid of it.

Drac, SOLO is the creator of the game. Mad is continuing a discussion that she was having over in Adventure Game Discussions.

It always helps to include the link so people know what you're referring to.

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/14/19 10:23 AM

Hi Mad,

The stats you refer to should only be visible in the debug version of the game when it was in Beta version, this should have been removed prior to going on Kartridge, looks like they are using the wrong version. I will sort this out and let you know when done. Many thanks Mad for posting this issue.
Apologies for this, it is the first I have heard about this....

The game can be played however and game saves used even with the stats showing.

To play again after saving the game, just launch as normal and on the main game screen (screen with game title) select LOAD, this will bring up a screen where you can select your latest saved game.

I will let all know, when the correct version is uploaded on KARTRIDGE without stats.

Thanks for Playing!!

Mode Direct 3D8
Poly Count 36
Running scrips 191 r wwo
mouse..475, 191, r,w,pl constantly changing

Hi Winfrey,

Read my reply to Mad, I have now changed this and will upload the recent version to Kartridge tonight, I am also uploading to Microsoft ONEDRIVE and will publish a link where you can download the whole game and play it without KARTRIDGE loaded etc.

I will let all know when complete.

Thanks for the post.

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/14/19 02:40 PM

Hi - And sorry, Draclvr and Jenny100. I should have explained in a better fashion redface
But thank YOU, Marian, for helping me out laugh

Well, SOLO. I appreciate you crossing to this board to advise.
However I have the same exact situation as Winfery in that no game downloaded to my machine. Just Kartridge. So I can't locate a game icon to launch from woozy

Also, if you make the game available via Microsoft ONEDRIVE, would that mean having to download ONEDRIVE as well ??
[I don't want to download yet another huge programme !!]

I had begun to assume that this game was only playable by going on-line and that is not really for me. Even though you have been generous enough to offer it for "free" thanks

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/14/19 04:16 PM

Mad,
I've downloaded things from onedrive similar to the way I've downloaded from dropbox.
It can be configured for direct download, sometimes with a clickthrough page but not needing people who download to open an account.

Keep in mind that SOLO said the game was over 5 GB in size. That may take a while to download if it's downloading from Kartridge in the background before automatically installing.

I had not heard of "Kartridge" before but found this on Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kongregate#Kartridge

Well this game is neither. It's not "premium paid" and it's not "free browser based" either.
If the Wikipedia description is correct, maybe this poses a problem for Kartridge's configuration.

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/14/19 07:10 PM

Hi Jenny100 smile

I've never used "dropbox" OR "onedrive" so I don't know what downloading from either would be like woozy
And I'm not keen on the prospect of another huge download from anywhere.
[The download from/of Kartridge was OVER 5 GB and yet the game wasn't included in it !!]

I would like to try SOLO's game, though, so will wait and see what transpires.

[What I really want is to get the game downloaded onto my machine and that be IT. No messing about with other sites lol]

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/14/19 07:30 PM

OneDrive is simply storage you get with Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. I believe you get 7 GB free. I use OneDrive all the time to upload files that are too large to send as email attachments so I can share them with my family. They can either just look at them or download them. They do not need to have a OneDrive account.

Dropbox will let you do that too, but I find that one too "bossy" for me. It tries way too hard to get me to have an account.

I see Microsoft OneDrive listed in my programs and I have Windows 7. Maybe from Outlook or Office?? I've never tried to use it though.

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/15/19 02:24 AM

Maybe they include it with Windows 7 too... I forget! So, you guys also have storage in the Microsoft cloud if you ever want to use it. It's VERY handy sometimes if you want to share a video or a large number of photos with someone.

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/16/19 04:07 PM

I was downloading this last night while I slept and, of course, my internet went out so I don't know if the download finished or not. In my download folder I have one icon that says MYTH.zip with 0 KB and one that says MYTH.zip.part with 4,594,609 KB (or 4.38 GB). Can somebody please tell me if this is all of it or what should I have there to know it is complete?

I don't think that's the whole thing, oldbroad.
I got
5.0 GiB (5,339,321,915 bytes)

Thanks Jenny. I'll have to try it again. This was actually my second attempt with the download. I don't suppose it will pick up where it left off?

That would probably be the same as what I downloaded then (same number of bytes).
Unfortunately oldbroad will have to re-download.

It took me two tries to get it.
The first time my browser crashed toward the end of the download so I had to start over.

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/16/19 05:40 PM

I must have been lucky, then. The downloading went quite swiftly and without a hitch.

Hope oldbroad gets it OK on the next try yes

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/16/19 05:45 PM

Thanks Mad and Jenny. I finally found the place in my browser bar where I can see the download progress and yes, both items show "failed".

The few times I've downloaded something since using Firefox, I've never been able to see the progress and it made me crazy wondering how far along something was.

I wish I could know when my internet will stay good for awhile. I will have to call AT&T again one of these days as it is doing the same thing it did last year but not quite as predictably (is that a word?). Last year I could kind of know by the weather but this year I can't pinpoint it that way as well. It does seem like when the wind blows from a certain direction though. I have been keeping track now of how many days a month it works all day and how many days it doesn't. So far in March, it has been good for 7 days out of 16. If I unplug my modem for awhile then it will work again but I have tried a different modem with the same result. I know AT&T wants me to upgrade so they can charge me more money!

I also change my power options for the computer to never go to sleep... I leave that window open so I don't forget that I changed it. My download took 6 hours!!! I live in the country and have slowwwwww internet and if I did not change the power setting it would fail every time.

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/16/19 09:30 PM

Hi Winfrey. I seem to get 1 GB per hour usually, so I am expecting at least 5 hours. I know it went for 4 hours last night which is on par. I could see the start and stop time when I hovered over the failed download. I don't have my computer set to sleep ever but the monitor does and I think it sometimes interferes with things.

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/21/19 06:58 AM

I was finally able to get the game downloaded. Now what do I do with it?

I double clicked the zip file and got a Myth file folder with all the files in it. What do I do with that folder? Leave it there or move it someplace (where)?

Inside the folder is the Myth.exe (and a bunch of other files). Will the Myth.exe just start the game or will it install the game on my computer?

Thank you.

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/21/19 11:55 AM

Hi Oldbroad,

Just open the folder and click the MYTH icon, the game should run.

Enjoy!
Posted By: Draclvr

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/21/19 01:55 PM

Did you unzip the file first, oldbroad?
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/21/19 05:16 PM

Thank you SOLO.

I double clicked the zip file Draclvr. I believe that unzipped it as I then get the Myth folder with all of the files in it.
Posted By: Draclvr

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/21/19 05:31 PM

No, that won't unzip it. You have to right click the file and select "extract all."
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/21/19 06:09 PM

Okay, I just did that and got the same exact folder as before when I double clicked it but this time the folder stays in the downloads folder where before I don't think it did. So now what? Do I leave the Myth folder in the Downloads folder or move it somewhere else (where?) or doesn't it matter?

Thanks.
Posted By: Draclvr

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/21/19 06:15 PM

Yes, it will look the same. But now it is no longer inside the "zipped" folder where the information is compressed.

It doesn't matter where it is. You can leave it right in the downloads folder if you want... that's what I do. Now you just open up the unzipped file and follow Solo's instructions from there. I don't know if there is a setup file or what is needed to actually install the game.
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/21/19 06:29 PM

Okay. Thank you!

Not really sure. I guess I'll find out when I click the Myth.exe whether it installs or just starts playing.

Oldbroad, when you double-click a zipped file in Windows, Windows shows you what's inside the zip file and displays the contents of the zip as if it were in a folder. But it doesn't actually unzip the zip file.

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/21/19 07:32 PM

Thanks Jenny100. I was just "getting that" in my brain while reviewing the posted information and seeing the folder staying in there versus not staying in there. Will I remember this next time? Don't know, but hope so!

Draclvr, I will update you later when I give it a go. I want to be ready to play if it opens up the game and I'm not ready just now.

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/21/19 11:08 PM

The game did not do any installation. I played about a half hour and apparently I completed the first "trap" though I'm not sure exactly what I did to trigger it after setting it all up. I made 2 saves. I don't know where they go but I know they're in there because after closing out of the game, I went back in to make sure, so I guess all is okay.

In Windows 10 (probably the same for W7 or close) the Save games are located:

C:\Users\your name\Saved Games\Myth

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/22/19 12:50 AM

Thanks Starcom. I found the Saved Games folder in the same folder my Downloads folder is in.

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/22/19 01:08 AM

That is even better, thanks for letting me know oldbroad, enjoy the game, so far I am having fun with it... I am level 8 now, but will take a couple of days break from it for now.

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/26/19 11:08 PM

Well, after all that trouble getting the game downloaded, I only played that first level. When I went back to the game today, Norton found an issue with it and I am not going to argue with Norton about it. If I keep overturning Norton's decisions, I might as well not have it, and I like Norton so...
Posted By: Marian

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/27/19 01:16 AM

There should be a way to put the game on Norton's exclusion list, but since I don't have Norton, I don't know how.

I remember years ago when I had the AVG antivirus, there were several games it blocked from running because it kept seeing false positives. I got disgusted with it after a while and ended up finding a new antivirus - I would have missed out on some good games otherwise.
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/27/19 04:12 AM

Yes, but one day it may not be a false positive and I won't know and will allow it. Not worth that happening. I did okay it when I first downloaded it, but this was a different notification.
Posted By: Starcom

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/27/19 04:26 AM

I'm with Marian on both counts: 1) Tell Norton to make an exception and 2) Don't miss out on games because Norton gives you a false positive or at the Very least contact Norton support and they will ask you to send some information and they will get back to you regarding whether it is a false positive or a true virus or malware.

I used both Kaspersky and Malwarebytes to fully scan all the game files and both of them found Zero maleware or virus.

You could also contact Solo and let him know and he will get back to you, he is very quick to respond to inquiries, when I contacted him on 3 seperate occasions he replied no later than the next day.
Posted By: oldbroad

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/27/19 05:44 AM

I had used both Norton and Malwarebytes on the download also and it was fine at that time. I've got more than enough other games to play.
Posted By: SOLO

Re: Myth : A Guff's Tale - 03/27/19 09:43 AM

Hi oldbroad and the forum,

I can 101% gaurantee you all that there is no virus or malware attached to the game files, as a process prior to going to Gold a developer has to confirm each individual file (MYTH has quite a few) is virus free and malware free so that no corruption of data can occur.
