Steam updates - 01/03/20 11:15 PM

For 2 weeks, if I open Steam, it uses an update dated Dec 16th, made for Linus. Tried to get rid of it, but evidently I am not succesful. Even the store page looks weird. I now work with Win 10 since mid-november. I tried to communicate with them but received an email from Steam Support who acknowledged my new OS and a code to access my account. How do I get rid of this update? Any way to email them to tell them my problem?

If you mean this
https://store.steampowered.com/news/?feed=steam_client

The December 16 update is not just for Linux.

You would not be able to install the Linux version on a Windows computer.
Steam would automatically detect Windows 10 and install the Windows update.

If you want to use Steam, I think you need the latest version, which appears to be the December 16th update version.

So you should not try to "get rid of this update"

I know, it should detect Win 10 but that update does not install: sometimes 10 times a day, if I start Steam 10 times!!! I have seen this info

about the update you mention and it says for Linux client so I presumed it was not for Win 10 and wondered why I was getting it? I can

start the games I need, so obviously not having installed it, does not cause a problem but this update not getting anywhere is driving me

nuts!!! That is what I meant by getting rid of it .

What browser do you have set as your default?

When you say you are opening Steam, do you mean the Steam client or the Steam website?

Mostly click on a game icon and there goes the update trying to install. Or click on steam in the startmenu get the update(no install) and I end up on the store website
I use Edge and I like it so far.

Have you rebooted your computer since this started happening?

You might try this suggestion I found. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam. Inside the Steam folder, find the Package file and remove it from the folder and try again.

Quote
In case none of this works, the problem may be with the package and you should consider removing the “Package” folder from the Steam folder and moving it to a new location. This should prompt Steam to redownload the package and the problem should then be taken care of. The “Package” folder is located directly in the Steam folder, usually in Program Files.

Many times... When this started, at least 3 times a day. Now I turn it off at night only, unless I Have a problem somewhere else, like keyboard

freezes or the mouse while I play Fallout 4. That problem is new, think it started about the same time as those updates. I searched with

Google and found a site that wrote, probably a Win 10 help site, (cant remember), about a bug for Win 10 about keyboard or mouse freezing.

They Explained what to do in this case but I did not dare do it. Seemed too complicated for my old brain

Coincidence, I wonder?. Just started steam client and it says Dec 16th update, same that wont update here. So whatever I do to start

Steam has the same result.

Did you try the suggestion to remove the "Package" file from the Steam folder?

Re: Steam updates - 01/04/20 08:06 PM

I had not seen your suggestion. I will do that as soon As I have the time. Have to be somewhere else soon.

You say : remove the file, but where do I put it? Probably stupid question???

Re: Steam updates - 01/04/20 08:15 PM

I don't think it matters. The suggestion said just to remove it from the Steam folder. That way the update will try to install a new Package file... maybe the other one was corrupted.

Yes it worked. Restarting Steam, it updated as it should and when I looked in Steam client, it says: Steam has been updated. Thank you Draclvr. Finally that thing is gone! I am a happy person!!!
