Disc burning in Windows 10

Disc burning in Windows 10 - 02/07/20 09:30 PM

How do I make this happen? I have Geospots on the disc that I want to burn to and it say: Files ready to be written to the disc (1). I've got other Carol Reed games on this same disc that I did in Windows 7 but can't see how to do it in Windows 10.

See if this helps

You should get a pop-up when you insert the disc, and choose "like a USB flash drive" to add files.

Another website I found said to right-click the file you want to burn, click Send To, and then browse to the DVD drive and follow prompts to burn it.

Note: I've never used Windows 10 for this. I tried Windows built-in disc burner once many years ago (on XP I think) and quickly found a 3rd party burning program to use instead.

I use right click the file and choose Send To. Quick and easy.

Thanks Jenny. I think I have it now after much clicking around. I did consult a youtube video (the one you linked to, in fact) and also tried that "click send to" and it looked like it was going to do something but didn't so I closed that and started over. I tried that "share" option also. Nothing. I did not get a pop-up about how I want to used the disc. There are already games on it that I burned on it in my Windows 7 computer.

There is some tab at the top of the DVD drive window that says "manage" and "drive tools". I had to click back and forth on that several times. First it said something about "finish burning" but when I went back to where it said that, it no longer said it duh . I tried again and it was there so I clicked it and it seems to have worked. The game now shows up as an "application" on the disc and the remaining space on the disc is reduced.

Drac, I was typing when you posted. That "click send to" did not work. It sat on the screen looking like it was going to and was "calculating" the time remaining, but after about 10 minutes and no activity showing on my computer (no blinking lights at all), I cancelled out of there.

That's kinda strange... works for me every time. Who knows! Glad you got it to work.

Thanks. I'm sure it's something I did wrong somehow smile

A new year; a new Carol Reed game; same darn problems trying to burn to disc. Took me a good hour to figure it out again but I think I got it!

Disc burning in Windows 10 is a pain in the (insert favorite expletive here). The "Send To" command might be easy enough for most situations, but certainly not for all. I use the free version of Ashampoo Burning Studio. It's much more intuitive. It contains ads, but I don't think that's a problem if you don't use the program on a daily basis.

Re: Disc burning in Windows 10 - 01/02/21 07:22 AM

Thanks Mikael. I suppose if I burned games to disc regularly, I would get used to it and not have a problem every time. My brain just doesn't retain this stuff for very long!

Re: Disc burning in Windows 10 - 01/01/22 11:07 PM

Alright, another year, another Carol Reed game (which I love Mikael, but hate that you can no longer send out discs), and another frustrating time trying to burn the game to the disc.

Every time I try to burn it, I get a message to insert a disc (which is already in there but gets spit out) and then it says it can't write to that disc and to insert a writable disc which is what I already have in there. It has last year's game on it but I cannot get this year's game on it no matter what I try to do!

I suspect it doesn't like that there is something else on the disc. Have you tried inserting a blank disk and seeing if it would burn?

Re: Disc burning in Windows 10 - 01/02/22 01:51 AM

This is a DVD+R DL disc with 8.5 GB capacity. The other one I have has 5 Carol Reed games on it and the Rebecca Carlson game (the last one burned from Windows 10 and the others burned from on Windows 7). I don't see why this disc should be a problem as they are from the same box. The only other discs I have are CD's with 700mb capacity. I can try to reformat it but then I'll lose Quarantine Diary, though I suppose I can put that back on IF reformatting even works. I just hate this stuff!

Re: Disc burning in Windows 10 - 01/02/22 03:43 AM

I don't get why it won't "add" to this disc either unless there is something amiss on the disc. It's been so many years since I've dealt with discs because flash drives are SO much easier to deal with, I forget how to do it! Is the Quarantine Diary a setup file? Could you move it to your computer hard drive?

Re: Disc burning in Windows 10 - 01/02/22 05:32 AM

I have tried flash drives a couple of times and have lost everything on them when they did not work when I tried to use them.

Why are you asking if I can move Quarantine Diary? Do you think I should try the reformat? Also, I was trying to find where to see how much space is on my drives and cannot find where to look. I know there should be plenty of space on this disc but cannot see it like I should be able to?

Re: Disc burning in Windows 10 - 01/02/22 04:46 PM

You must have have gotten hold of some bad flash drives. I've got drives with stuff on them from 8 years ago!

Yes, I was going to suggest reformatting the disc. So are you saying when you go to your File Explorer/This PC that this disc is not showing up? If I have a disc in my optical drive, it shows up. If you can look at the disk in you drive, it may have become corrupted. You can lose information on discs too.

Re: Disc burning in Windows 10 - 01/02/22 08:04 PM

No, Drac. I was saying that I could not find the place in my computer to look for the disc ("This PC"). Now that you've got me there, it shows that there is no space available on the disc, so somehow the one game filled up the whole disc for some reason. (You would think that when I tried to burn something on it that it would have said the disc is full instead of just saying to insert a writable disc.) Anyway, not sure why the one game filled the disc. I obviously did something wrong last year. So, what do you suggest?

Re: Disc burning in Windows 10 - 01/02/22 08:18 PM

It sounds like the disc is corrupted somehow - I doubt it was anything you did. Can you even access the game you already have on it? If not, they the only thing I can suggest is to try to reformat it and hope it works after that!

Re: Disc burning in Windows 10 - 01/02/22 08:25 PM

I don't know if I can access the game that's on it. I'll have to try it in my Win 7 later to see. (I still have it installed on Win 10 so I can't test it here.) Either way though, I guess I'll have to try the reformat. I'd like to back the game up on a disc even though I also hope to back it up on my external drive. I can't do that yet either because I need to unplug my XP first so I have a free outlet and right now I am trying to finish up a replay of Anacapri the Dream in there so that I can start this new Carol Reed game. Circle.

Thank you. I will update later when I've done something.

Re: Disc burning in Windows 10 - 01/02/22 08:55 PM

You still should be able to look at the file and double click it to see what happens. I assume this is a download? You should be able to download it again depending on where you got it from.

Re: Disc burning in Windows 10 - 01/02/22 10:13 PM

It's last years Carol Reed game and the download file is still in my downloads folder.

Re: Disc burning in Windows 10 - 01/02/22 10:42 PM

That's great. Some of them "go away" after you use them to install the game! So if you format the disc and it works, you won't lose anything then.

Re: Disc burning in Windows 10 - 01/02/22 11:26 PM

Well, it's not letting me reformat either so I guess I am SOL!!

"Windows was unable to complete the format."

Re: Disc burning in Windows 10 - 01/03/22 01:06 AM

I had a feeling that was going to happen. If the disc is corrupted for some reason, then it won't accept a reformat either. But it was worth a try! I think that disc should go the way of your failed flash drives!

Re: Disc burning in Windows 10 - 01/03/22 11:46 PM

With the flash drives, I could not get them to do anything at all. This disc is just full for some reason. I just put it in my Win 7 computer and was able to install the game on there that is on the disc, and the game works so...

Re: Disc burning in Windows 10 - 01/04/22 12:00 AM

When I use flash drives, I just drag and drop files to them. None of the burning and making sure you have the right kind of disc etc. That is a bit strange that you can "see" the disc on Windows 7 and what's on it, but not Windows 10.

Re: Disc burning in Windows 10 - 01/04/22 12:28 AM

I could see it in Windows 10, and once you reminded me where to look, I could see that there was no available space on it. I just don't know why there's no space on it though.

Re: Disc burning in Windows 10 - 01/04/22 12:34 AM

So, question which I think I may have missed... could you "see" the game file on it on both systems?

Yes.

Re: Disc burning in Windows 10 - 01/04/22 03:53 AM

Thanks! Sometimes I forget what I asked and what I didn't. So, the disk has become full, but can't be reformatted. I have no other suggestions, sorry!
