Big Fish Downloads - 07/06/20 05:32 PM

Hi.

I've had to replace the external drive to which I download my Big Fish games and the new one arrived today.
So I've formatted it – and called it BBlack (F:) - and I've also put a folder on it for where the games need to go when they download - which I've called BFGames.

[All traces of the old download address had already been removed.]

But using Big Fish Download Options, although I got BBlack to show (and immediately under it the folder BFGames) the “Game Installation Location" at the bottom shows a path of C:\Users\Mad\BBlack\BFGames.

And I can't find a way to correct it frown

I’ve obviously done something horribly wrong !!

So how can I change it to the right one ??

Hope somebody can help.
[I'm so hopeless with anything slightly techie.]

Cheers.

Re: Big Fish Downloads - 07/06/20 05:55 PM

I was just going to post the same link as Jenny did. I know it's for "installing" a game location, but is there also an option in the menu for "downloading" a game location?

Hi.

Thank you both for responding, however the link you give, Jenny100, is the actual one I used when I tried to set the download path.

With the external drive plugged in, I don't have any trouble at all downloading and installing a game.
But it gets installed to C Drive and not to my external drive.

So I think maybe I somehow need to get rid of the C:\Users\Mad part of the download path ?? [C:\Users\Mad\BBlack\BFGames]
And that's what I don't know how to do ....

[Draclver, if I put "downloading" a game location in the Big Fish search box, I am just sent to that same link as above.]

Cheers.

Going by your first post, you want the download path to be F:\BFGames

The instructions say:

1. Open the Big Fish Games app (Game Manager).
2. In the upper right corner, click Options.
3. Click on the Downloads tab at the top of the Options window.
4. Under Game Installation Location, click the Browse button and choose the drive where you would like your games to now be installed.
5. Click OK.

Are you able to get the window with the Browse button that's pictured at
https://bigfishgames.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/229969207-Install-Games-in-New-Location

specifically this window
http://games.bigfishgames.com/RightNowImages/US/1083/108301.png

You should be able to browse to your F: drive as long as the USB drive is plugged in before the Game Manager starts detecting your hardware. If the USB drive is not plugged in before the Game Manager starts up, it may never detect until you reboot the computer with the USB drive plugged in.

Remember, the Game Manager does not shut down completely when you close it and does not detect a freshly plugged in drive that wasn't there when the Game Manager started up. I suppose you could root around in the Ctrl-Alt-Delete Menu and make sure all BigFish-related processes are closed, but I just find it easier to reboot with the drive attached.

I figured that since it sent both me and Jenny to the same place. I was hoping the instructions to browse to your preferred location would work for downloading as well as installing. And that is a really good idea about rebooting with the drive attached.

OK. I shut my machine down completely. Then re-booted with the external drive already plugged in (which I've never had to do before) but it didn't make any difference because when I then downloaded a game (from my purchase history - via Game manager on my PC) it installed it straight to C Drive.

I've emailed you some small "snipping" pictures, Jenny100, so you can see how the drives on my Win7 machine are labelled and the Download Location choices I made at Big Fish .... In the hope you might find a glaring error somewhere slapforehead

In the meantime, thank you both very much for your patience !!

Cheers.

Re: Big Fish Downloads - 07/06/20 11:21 PM

After you rebooted, did you go back into the BFG manager and see if your F drive was listed in the browse option? Rebooting won't help if you aren't somehow able to change that destination.

Re: Big Fish Downloads - 07/06/20 11:50 PM

Mad,
You have your Big Fish Game Manager configured to install games to
C:\Users\Mad\BBlack\BFGames

That folder is on your Windows drive. Not where you want.

As long as you have the Game Manager configured to download to any location that starts with C:\ , the game will install to that location on your C:\ drive (your internal Windows drive)

What you want is to install to:

F:\BFGames

Never mind the "name" of the drive being BBlack. You don't need to include that. You only need the drive letter and the name of the folder on F:

You should be able to Browse to your F: drive using the the "Browse" button.
If you're having problems, try changing the text in the window to simply
F:\
and see if you're able to see the BFGames folder on the external drive when you click the "Browse" button. After using the "Browse" button with "F:\" as the drive, you should be able to select the BFGames folder on the external F: drive.

Let us know if the Big Fish Game Manager is not seeing the F: drive at all, even after rebooting. If that happens, it may be that you have to uninstall and reinstall the Game Manager.

Draclvr, have you ever installed Big Fish games directly to an external drive?

Re: Big Fish Downloads - 07/06/20 11:55 PM

No, I haven't. I have always downloaded and installed to my C drive.

Re: Big Fish Downloads - 07/07/20 05:58 PM

MaG told me how to do this, many years ago, so that I could play my BigFish games off-line - and I've been doing it practically without problems ever since.

And now I've resolved the issue and successfully downloaded a couple of games to the external drive. Yahoo !! dance hamster dance

Here's what I did :-

First I uninstalled the Games Manager, ran the Cleanup Tool and then (with the external drive plugged in) reinstalled the Game Manager.

Next I went to Set Up The Downloads Location at Big Fish :

1. Clicked on Options near the top right of the Games app.
2. Then clicked on Downloads at the top of the Options window.
3. Under the heading ‘Game Installation Location’ I clicked on the Browse button ....
4. Selected the folder COMPUTER and chose BBlack F:
5. And then opened BBlack
5 And then clicked OK to close the ‘Browse for Folder’ window
[If I didn't click on the BBlack folder LAST before closing the Browse button, it didn't work.]
6.Finally I confirmed that the new folder path WAS showing directly under the words ‘Game Installation Location’ and clicked on OK to close the Games app Options screen.

Thank you both for listening to my woes - and for your suggestions. Much appreciated as always yes

I'm glad you are back in action Mad but I have a question. Didn't you recently download/install all of your BF games to that other drive, and do you now have to re-download/install them all?

Re: Big Fish Downloads - 07/07/20 08:08 PM

Unfortunately. yes, oldbroad.

But I've already made a good start re-downloading.

Been at it for a loooooong time today lol

[And thank you, Marian and Draclvr grin ]

Re: Big Fish Downloads - 07/07/20 08:41 PM

Ugh! I downloaded a bunch of games to my Windows 7 computer and that's been my worry - now it'll break down on me. That happened with my XP (though they weren't downloads, just disc installs).

It was a "trial & error" thing, Jenny100. Nothing clever !! lol

And oldbroad ....
I thought you still used your XP machine - just in another room - although I think you said the switch-on button was wonky ??

The XP I use now belonged to my sister. MY XP bit the dust several years ago, unfortunately. I still really, really miss it!
