Truberbrook Installation - 06/20/21 06:57 PM

I recently bought this game from GOG and downloaded all six files.
[Two called "set up" plus four patches.]

So can someone please tell me which of the files I need to use - to correctly install the game ??

Help will be much appreciated as always smile

This is why I prefer to download games through GOG Galaxy - it just does it all automatically and you don't have to sort these things out for yourself. After I have downloaded the game, I just close out of Galaxy and I don't need to use it again. The game plays perfectly fine without it.

Okay, I just took a look, and all you need to install are the first two files that say Truberbrook Part 1 and Truberbrook Part 2. On the GOG download page, they show a 1.6 next to them, which means they are patched inclusive of the four patches that you see listed, with patch 1.6 having been the latest one. So, you don't need to do anything with the four patches you downloaded as the game has been fully updated already.

I hope you enjoy it! I picked it up during a sale but haven't played it yet.

Thanks, Marian smile

I'm playing in Win7 and I have used Galaxy occasionally in the past on this machine. But I think it must have been an older version of Galaxy because more recently it has definitely upset my computer.
So I avoid it now.

EDIT :

Well, another question already redface

I can't see a way to save manually and on Googling I read that the game saves automatically on a change of screen.
So, after my first move to a new screen I quit and re-started - to test that theory - but it didn't work and I had to start the game over again !!
How to save is now the issue think

You may not have switched to the "right" screen. I hate games like that! I did some looking and you are stuck with their save system.

Yeah, this is what I found:

It would help if you saw something in the corner that shows it saved, but apparently you don't.

I also just looked at flotsam's review and he says the same autosaves on exit, but not where you left off. It will always go to the beginning of the latest scene.

Re: Truberbrook Installation - 06/20/21 08:44 PM

Well thank you both but I must be misinterpreting something rolleyes

I re-started the game and eventually moved from the original outside scene to an inside one - and then quit - to see if that worked.
But it didn't. I had to start at the beginning of the outside scene again frown

Does the description given in that Steam link help at all?

Re: Truberbrook Installation - 06/20/21 09:00 PM

Maybe just moving into that next scene wasn't enough. Maybe you have to do something at least in there. I think the Steam post indicates something like that.

Re: Truberbrook Installation - 06/20/21 09:02 PM

This sounds like the stupidest save system ever.

Re: Truberbrook Installation - 06/20/21 09:33 PM

If I had remembered what kind of a save system this game has, I doubt that I would have purchased it. I don't think it is supposed to be a particularly long game, although that still does not negate the irritation I feel with this kind of save system.

Re: Truberbrook Installation - 06/21/21 03:04 AM

A good reason for me to NOT buy it too.

Re: Truberbrook Installation - 06/21/21 05:51 PM

The game is actually very nice and I like it yes
It's just the save system that's poor.
[Such a shame.]

I will just have to utilise my playing time the best I can so as to ensure I play enough at one session to enable a save !! duh

If you didn't read that Steam post, there was this from the developer. This was considered "bad news" about the lack of a save system by several people. I subscribed to the thread, so will get notifications and will let you know!

Unfortunately that post is from 2 years ago already Drac. You'd think something might have been done by now.

Re: Truberbrook Installation - 06/21/21 06:55 PM

I think I've read everything there is to read now and there is definitely NO manual save system !!

However, I will persevere and carry on because it is such a nice game pacify

The GOG version that I have shows a disc icon in the lower right corner of the screen when it saves. In the lower right corner of the main menu it says Truberbrook 1.16.

Re: Truberbrook Installation - 06/22/21 04:48 AM

Well that is something at least Uncle Reg. One of those Steam posters said "There is not even a sign when it auto-saves... ".

Mad, do you see that disc icon indicating the game is being saved?

Thank you, Uncle Reg! Maybe check your version too... the GOG version will be fully patched.

It's not a circle. It's supposed to be a graphic representation of a floppy disc. It looks a lot like this, but it is white on black instead of black on white as in that picture. When it occurs, it seems to always happen following a scene change, like going from outside the boarding house to inside the house, or going from outside the boarding house to the cable car area. During those scene changes there is always a "Loading..." icon displayed in the lower right corner of the screen. If the save occurs, the disc icon is displayed immediately following the "Loading..." icon in the same screen location.

Re: Truberbrook Installation - 06/23/21 02:37 AM

An odd choice for a graphic!

Re: Truberbrook Installation - 06/23/21 05:51 AM

The floppy disc, in all of its obsoleteness, is still used extensively as a save icon. Just Google "save icon" and see what you get. That's how I found the picture that I used.

Re: Truberbrook Installation - 06/23/21 02:37 PM

In the Admin area of our American Legion website which I administer, the save icon is a floppy disc there too! It actually makes some sense, ancient as it is.
