Gothic 2 Gold

Gothic 2 Gold - 01/01/22 09:41 PM

Bought this from GOG today and installed it to my Win 10 machine. [Didn't use Galaxy.] And played as far as just venturing outside the starting point of the tower.

I have to say I'm not super impressed.
For starters, the menu is really weird to handle. And I haven't found a Quick Save facility at all ....
Nor have I discovered how to equip a weapon yet - so I get slaughtered very easily thumbsdown

But worst of all, I haven't found a way to use God Mode. Aggghhhhh !!
[And I will need it. I don't get through many RPG's without it. Being the wimp that I am redface]

So I could well end up going back to playing my "normal" Gothic 2 in Win7 if things don't improve pronto whistle
[I love my normal Gothic 2 dance]

Does F5 not work for quick save?

I haven't used God mode for this game (yet), but googling showed me some people who had it working on Gothic 2 Gold.

Gothic 2 Gold includes the expansion Night of the Raven, which is supposed to be very, very good.

When I have more time, I can look into this more if you would like. wave

Hi Marian 🙂

No. F5 doesn't doesn't do anything - for me, anyway.
I'll do a search on-line for that and God Mode.

Also, each time I launch the game, the "Raven" files (I'm presuming it's them) get "dealt with".
A box appears on screen telling me so.
But if they have supposedly already been integrated into the game I am wondering why ....

Not a happy bunny yet with this game ☚ī¸

I will see what I can find out too, Mad. Are you running the game on your Windows 7 computer?

May I ask when you purchased this game? And did you get it from GOG? Because if things don't get sorted, they have a no-questions-asked 30-day refund policy.

Edit: Never mind about the above - I was not remembering that you had already mentioned all of this!

Since she didn't use Galaxy, I'm wondering if not everything got downloaded. I missed something twice and that's when I went to using Galaxy all the time... MUCH easier and foolproof.

Re: Gothic 2 Gold - 01/02/22 05:18 PM

Thanks, Drac. I had forgotten Mad had already mentioned this.

I would definitely use Galaxy to download this game - I agree. In fact, I don't ever download games from GOG without it. Once you get the game installed, you never have to use Galaxy in conjunction with the game again.

Re: Gothic 2 Gold - 01/02/22 05:24 PM

I tried and it worked just fine... until I forgot or missed something when there were numerous files. Galaxy is foolproof and then I can use it or not use it.

Re: Gothic 2 Gold - 01/02/22 06:17 PM

There are only two parts to the Non- Galaxy download so I doubt anything got "missed".
And I do prefer to not download via "clients".
(I think I've only ever used Galaxy once.)

But if I can't get the game to perform how I want it to I won't be heartbroken. It cost very little and I have the excellent original version playable on Win7.

It's just annoying because very few games from GOG ever give me problems and I would like to have a go with this one.

EDIT :

OK. As a trial I have uninstalled the game and reinstalled it using Galaxy.

But before I get into the game proper - so far I've just watched the intro and saved - can someone (Marian ?) please point me to directions for being able to use God Mode. I have had a quick look myself but can't find anything .... I can't even find a way to open the console ....

Also, I tried F5 and it does not quick save.

Thanks Mad smile

Found this in the Steam forum:

Quote
This isn't visual tweak but it's pretty useful so how enable quick save / load in G2? Go to your game directory, system folder and open Gothic.ini. Then find useQuickSaveKeys=0 and change the zero to one: useQuickSaveKeys=1 Save it, load up the game and now you can use F5 for quicksave and F9 for quickload.

Also did a search for god mode and found this: MARVIN???

Re: Gothic 2 Gold - 01/02/22 11:13 PM

Thanks, Draclvr, I will try the quick save stuff 🙂

I found that cheats site myself, right after my last post here, but the instructions there don't open the console for me ☚ī¸

I'm beginning to think I am not meant to play this game how I want to play it AT ALL 😱

Re: Gothic 2 Gold - 01/02/22 11:18 PM

I was pretty curious why hitting C and typing in MARVIN would activate the console! It does say you tap C to exit after you activate and then F2 is supposed to bring up the console any time during gameplay.

Yes. I did everything exactly as was written.

Getting close to giving up and going back to my lovely original Gothic 2 !! yes

Re: Gothic 2 Gold - 01/03/22 01:44 AM

SOME Progress !!!!

I have found instructions .. at Steam .. that DO open the console .. HERE .. but so far the command for God Mode, given as " cheat god " isn't being accepted.

So where to go from here ??

Any ideas think

EDIT :
OK. After LOADS of fiddling about I have finally made God Mode work bravo

Re: Gothic 2 Gold - 01/03/22 03:32 AM

So this one uses the B key instead of the C key! cheat god is given at the other link too. So, how did you finally get it to work?!

Re: Gothic 2 Gold - 01/03/22 04:54 PM

Once I got the console open I typed in the correct words but they didn't actually appear as what I'd typed. The words were "garbled".
And I kept getting messages like "unknown".

But I carried on, every time correcting the words that appeared wrongly, and eventually they were accepted as correct.
Took a LOT of tries slapforehead

Hope I won't have to do that every time I want to try God Mode !! eek

That's kind of strange!

Re: Gothic 2 Gold - 01/03/22 10:22 PM

Isn't it just ??

Now I need to get to grips with looking for the screen that shows my stats/skills etc.

Enjoying the gameplay of this version but I'm very slow compared to the original lol

Re: Gothic 2 Gold - 01/04/22 06:42 PM

Well, after constant struggles with (and so not enjoying) the new downloaded version, I've given up on that and gone right back to basics by installing Gothic 2 from disk onto my XP machine - and it's running nicely thumbsup

[One of my Gothics is a "Gothic Collection Disk" which has Gothic, Gothic 2, Gothic 2 Night of the Raven and Gothic 3 on it and I've installed plain old Gothic 2 from that.]

There doesn't seem to be a quick save facility but God Mode worked right away without any messing about grin

[The quick save available for the downloaded version was very unstable and didn't always work, and when it didn't work the game stopped functioning properly and so the last "permanent" save then had to be used.

So, back to Happy Gothic Days for me !! grin

Sometimes you've just gotta take your losses and go back to what works! Now, I can tell you to have fun! I hesitated before...

Re: Gothic 2 Gold - 01/04/22 07:23 PM

Sounds good, Mad! Whatever works the best for you. thumbsup

And you can definitely ask GOG for a refund. You don't even have to write to them. Just click on support at the top of the home page, then go to orders and payments. It will show your purchases and underneath each one there is an option to click on ask for refund. That is what I did, and I asked for the refund to go to my GOG wallet. It did not take more than an hour or two before they refunded me.
