Windows 11 - 02/08/22 10:25 AM

Hi I am just wanting a bit of advice and information I have recently bought a new laptop and it is occasionally asking me if I want to install Windows 11 .
I dont know nothing about it and was hoping you guys would know (I guess you do lol}
If I installed it what changes would it make and would I still have all the stuff I have on it now.

Yes, I'm sure that powerful new laptop you bought would be capable of upgrading to Windows 11. There are many, many articles out there you can read about the changes. Yes, all the stuff you have on it now would still be there. Here is one article that details some of the changes.

I do not plan on doing the upgrade until I have no option. I am not very happy about it. If you decide you want to wait and not upgrade just yet, you can get rid of the nag in your Settings. Here is how.

Thanks' Draclvr I think I will wait. I hate change anyway LOL I am not tech inclined as you know LOL so I will let the nagging continue until I find out more about it all.
Thanks again I knew I would get a positive view from you.
Kindest regards

In the meantime, you can get rid of the nag and then decided later you want to upgrade. It's always in your Updates in Settings.

I have just installed Windows 11 - and I like it much more than Windows 10 smile
Although I am still mostly on Windows 7, using 11 only to launch new games like "Riddle of the Sphinx - The Awakening".

When I updated to Win 10. I had 3 pages of Apps that were either removed or missing something that I had to research and input. From Adobe to Asus Audio drivers. Games… HP stuff, Microsoft visual C+, Nvidia drivers, Windows driver package. I could go on. It took me days to correct this. Reading a comment on my pc for win 11. Some things might not work etc. not going thru this again till I have to!

Don't blame you! I updated several computers for other people and never had those kinds of issues, but they were all desktops and had no apps on them. What a PAIN! Supposedly none of this is supposed to happen with Windows 11... the operative word being supposedly. I'm also not upgrading until I have no choice. This whole TPM Module is what has tee'd me off.

I would be curious to know too... I love Windows 10 and don't see how it could be improved on for the normal user.

Re: Windows 11 - 02/14/22 07:24 PM

Well, I did not like Windows 10 at all so I am just very glad I can finally get rid of it... It used to have gone crazy at least two times for the last few years, with things getting broken after some updates. And it looked so ugly and flat after the beautiful and colorful Windows XP!
So, the new Windows 11 at least looks much better than 10, having round corners and so on smile But that's all just my taste, of course!

And sure - installing a new system means spending at least several days on updating and re-configuring your old programs... But that's the joy of today's life with computers smile

Iurii, thank you! I never much liked all the rounded corners and look of XP! To each their own as it should be!

I'm not terribly crazy about Windows 10 either , but I'm working with it , for now anyway . I refuse to go to Windows 11 . Seriously considering dropping back to WIn 7 for gaming (Every game I have in my collection is Win 7 compatible , & I have physical copies of older games such as "Riddle" & Diablo II) , & using a Linux distro for day to day needs , such as email , youtube , social media , etc . A potential hang up for Linux with me , is audio . I may need to purchase a seperate audio dac for my headphone amp , instead of using the dac on my sound card . Then again , there's Win 7 for music for me . It would mean a motherboard & cpu swap though .

Re: Windows 11 - 03/18/22 05:32 PM

Win 10 was reputed to be the last version of Windows EVER to be released .... And so I had quite a powerful Win10 machine custom built.

Shortly after which Win11 was announced slapforehead

My Win10 is not my favourite machine, though. My WinXP and Win7 are still my absolute favourites.
I can play practically every game I own on one or the other of them and I find all the other functions on both simple and enjoyable to use.
[Plus I very much like the way they both look and work.]

My Son-in-Law says my Win10 will take Win 11 but I'm certainly NOT in any hurry whatsoever to have to get to grips with yet another version of Windows - and will do my utmost to avoid that scenario altogether !! rolleyes

Same here, Mad about not upgrading to 11 unless I have to. I love Windows 10 and when I have to go back to Window 7 for some reason, I find it primitive and clunky. I know it's a great solid OS, but I just don't like it any more.

We do have a Windows 10 computer, but for the most part I will be offline using my Windows XP and Windows 7 computers, which suit me just fine for anything having to do with the games (mostly older) that I play.

I'm going to be working on getting my old XP computer running next week. I had rebuilt it into another case, but have a bad stick of RAM I need to troubleshoot. I'm kind of looking forward to going back in time with it!
