Outlook Error

Outlook Error - 05/03/22 01:28 PM

Hi.

On my Win10 machine, where I use Outlook for email, in the last few days I've been unable to click on a link in any email (say one from my bank or similar) to go directly to their site.
I get this error message :
“Invalid access to memory location”
So I'm having to copy and paste the given address using Firefox to get there .... which is such a nuisance !!

Does anyone know how I can get this put right, please ??

Thanks.

Mad, let me do some checking. First I would suggest you try using a different browser. You will have to go into your settings and change your default browser to Edge or Chrome if you have it.

EDIT: Everything I'm finding says to update drivers, but none of them say which drivers. Try opening up your Device Manager (right click the white Windows logo in the lower left) and see if there are any exclamation points there.

EDIT #2: I vaguely remember something similar to this happening a couple of years ago. Turned out it was an update that messed things up.

Just an FYI, my Outlook (using Firefox) is working fine.

Thanks, oldbroad. My Outlook is working in both Firefox and Edge. Good information to have.

Thank you, ladies 😑

The only problem I have with Outlook myself is this small one - but it's very annoying and I don't really want to change browsers eek

Just to be clear, I was not only confirming that my Outlook works with Firefox but that I could click on links within the emails just fine.

Mad, I'm not saying change browsers. I'm saying switch to Edge to see what happens. It's a part of eliminating issues and trying to identify the problem. Did you check your Device Manager?

Hi Mad, one thing you can try if you haven't done so already, if you have CCleaner you could try running it and let it clean out the Outlook cash and any other junk files that may be disturbing your links.

Another way is to do an Outlook quick repair but I can't give you any links on that since I do not know which Outlook version you have, etc....

Good luck, I hope you solve your problem

Starcom, that was going to be my next suggestion! But I'd like to start with the basics and am waiting to hear back to see if Mad had tried using a different browser and checked her Device Manager first.

Hi All. Sorry to be so late back.

I looked in Devices and couldn't see a white Windows Logo, Draclvr woozy
But I haven't tried another browser yet ....

And I'd already run Ccleaner, Starcom, before I posted here. But would I have to select something in particular for the cleaning you suggest ??
(I usually just run the registry check and the health check.)

Sadly, I haven't got much computer time at present as I'm well steeped into my voluntary accounts job for a few weeks.

You will get a list and one of them is Device Manager. See if there are any yellow exclamation points. Try a different browser and that will give us more information to go on.

I tried via Edge but got the same error message.

In the meantime I've sent you a PM yes

Hi again, Draclvr smile

My Son in Law was available to do a very quick "remote access" investigation about an hour ago and has managed to partially fix the problem BUT don't ask me what he did .... He goes so fast I can't keep up lol And he didn't have the time to explain any of it to me.

[He's hoping to completely fix it when he has more time.]

So I'm happy with that for the time being.

However. Thank you very much indeed for the time you have spent on this for me. It is very much appreciated !! praise

Cheers.
