-1. You have two poles. One stands at 6ft. 6in, the other at 7ft. 7in.. From the top of each pole tie a string to the bottom of the other.

At what height do the two strings cross?

I will tell you that you have all the information you need, the distance between the poles would make no difference to the answer were it two feet or 200 feet.

-2. In a box you have 13 white marbles and 15 black marbles. You also have 28 black marbles outside the box.

You remove two marbles, randomly, from the box. If they are of different colors, you put the white one back in the box. If they are the same color you put a black marble in the box.

Continue this until only one marble remains in the box.
What color is the last marble? Please explain.

That's it, Rog! A pair of trousers is one single item. A pair of socks is two items. kissy

I may be way off base, but this is the only way I know to do the math... smile

1. (ht x ht) ÷ (ht + ht)

(78 x 91) ÷ (78 + 91) = 42 inches

2. Only one white remains.

starting with 13 white and 15 black
remove 2 white 6 times and there will be 1 white and 21 black
now remove 1 white and 1 black 21 times and only 1 white will remain smile

2. One black remains think

HTML
3 − a2y*2 + (a1a3 − 4a4)y + (4a*2a*4 − a*2/3 − a* 2/1a*4) = 1 black

Manxman has it! The last one will always be white because whites can be removed only in pairs. wave

But I have to say that your formula looks very impressive, soot. smile

Soot, I see what you are saying. There is only one slight error that I saw. If you change the "3" to a "1" then you get 'white'. wave2
