Layers of Fear...scariest,most haunting game I've ever played. - 02/19/16 01:58 AM
There have been some great games that have given a veteram PC-gamer like me some mighty big scares. Going all the way back to "AMber:Journeys Beyond" (a classic that I wish GOG would get up and running!).
But the new gem I just purchased the other night on GOG: "Layers of Fear"....WOW. It's not only strikingly ,hauntingly beautiful...but there are so many moments of dread and artfully crafted, deliciously nasty environments. A non-stop treat for the eyes.
And yes, the gaming experience was even better once I actually turned the lights off in my computer room.
Holy cow, what a scary game.
THe voice acting (what little there is) is spot-on. THe music score and scored undertones are superb.
And...did I mention the environments? Jaw-dropping, traversing inside an old mansion(?) with seemingly never-ending,constantly twisting, turning and frightening visuals behind each door. Each painting on the walls makes you feel you are being watched.
And not to give away any spoilers....but GHOSTS!
OK, I've said enough. Allright...one more...WAIT 'till you get in the child's room. Just WAIT...
Honestly, the only (minor) dissapointment is that you cannot save at will. The game has checkpoints, but they're functional.
I honestly cannot remember ever being drawn into a game as much , and being affected to this degree.
I hope the developers somehow read this post.
I've been playing PC games for decades...and this one is the scariest, and the best experience I've had with a game in this genre thus far.
Do NOT wait...go out and plop down the $20 on GOG for this game. You will NOT be dissapointed!
